I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Indeed that seems the mantra. I had been looking at different country code sales in last year on NameBio, and .ca has an unimpressive number of sales (list here), but amongst the highest average prices of any TLD for the year at $10,800

6 of those sales were at sedo.that's where i just sold newtown.ca,but it sure wasn't for $xxxxx, more like $xxx. dashmedia grabbed it. turns out they have a marketing firm called Newtown, but no domain, boy did they get a deal. i should have set the bin a lot higher. hand regd early may, sold early june.

Has anyone submitted their sales or purchases to NameBio? Is it a difficult process?

Should be pretty much straight forward, Michael is a nice guy:
https://namebio.com/contact

If you can point them to (official) published sales on the web, they can add them to their scraping tools, too.

Thanks for the update. This didn't affect me at all, was just curious when I saw MyId getting one after another yesterday.

It was a good question, and it had me wondering what was going on, and what other changes the CIRA had done.

I'll add some next week. Nothing major unfortunately, and not all .ca's.

Which registrar did you use for that domain? I keep most of my names at Namespro, but have trouble setting up the records to comply with Sedo's ownership validation. So any .CA that I've added in the past year or so never gets accepted by Sedo

Had some time to kill this morning and emailed a few .CA registrars to ask if they could share their TBR auction results with Namebio to beef up some .CA stats.

Namebio publishes GoDaddy expiring auction results (even small ~$100 ones) so I figured it would be worth asking

it was at rebel

Says it was sold at Above.com

Lots of .CA's listed there, anyone ever use them?

I just created an account there to see what it's all about. They seem to have an interesting/unique service. See info graphic and screenshots below. Would like to know if the hype is real?!

1) Set the domain to DNS hosting or DNS record or whatever supports DNS at your registrar.
2) Edit the DNS record and add a "TXT record" using your Sedo code.
3) Save

This is a very easy process at places like Rebel or NamesPro, but at others like Baremetal it's a multi-stage nightmare.

Okay, it's Friday and I'm still getting old June 10 data mixed in with the new June 17 data. Someone sleeping on the job at CIRA?

I did that, but Sedo is never able to validate. I get reminder emails from Sedo until they eventually remove my domains

But with my .COMs at GoDaddy, I never have any issues

Holy crap, I bought a few domains during the Canada Day sale and I was looking over the traffic stats and most were in the 10-100 range, but then I saw two outliers:

1243 visitors since 2019-Jul-08.
2459 visitors since 2019-Jul-08.

WTF?

Can't give out the names right now.
Bought or hand reg?
Cannabis niche?

Bought or hand reg?

Hand reg for Canada Day, one GEO and one Brandable (pronounceable version of popular word).

This was from a monster list I keep of TBR leftovers that are worth it when the .CA sales come along.

Which .CA registrar is this from, as some of them are tricky.

Also make sure to set the TTL limit high (I set it to the maximum value) as that acts as the expiry time for the TXT record. Sedo can take a LONG TIME to verify (probably due to massive demand) and you want to make sure it doesn't expire before Sedo finally gets around to it.

Just got caught up on a weeks+ messages in this thread, for some reason I'm not getting any alerts here any more.

In any case, in response to a few things that have been discussed recently.

1. Sales are always going to come in randomly which means there will be dry spells and then other times when you sell a couple in a day. The more domains you have, the more this smooths out, but even with thousands of domains in my portfolio, I will still go a month with nothing on occasion.

2. I don't typically report sales, but I don't see any major downturns, things seem to be fine for me. For example, I sold two .CA this week, a 1-word dictionary for lower $5-figs that I bought for $50 a year ago in TBR, and an LLLL.ca in the 4-figure range that I've sat on for 10+ years.

3. I'm not a fan of reporting TBR results as sales. While it adds volume, it lowers the averages dramatically, and they're purely speculative sales so they're not representative of any end user sale. I'm very against that idea. You don't want to give end-users ammo to think or argue that a domain is only worth $XX or $XXX when you're asking $XX,XXX+. Many domain sales aren't about the money. Often they can afford whatever you ask, they just want to feel like they got a reasonable deal. If they see you bought the domain for $50 - you may put them into a mental state where they just refuse to pay $xx,xxx on principle - even if they can easily afford it. So if you're going to report sales, at least only report the ones that you're really proud of. People know how to use google, they can figure out more than you think. If you establish a track record of selling low, well, they're going to insist you sell low to them too. If you have a track record of only selling high, then they know they can't bully you on the price. This is especially true when dealing with common brokers representing the buyer (like godaddy). They know your sales history. I'm sure they are advising their clients on what prices you typically accept. I mean, who wouldn't use whatever information is available to them? Your public past sets the boundaries of your future. So be careful what you want published.

4. Anyone here selling domains for $xxx to end users is going to have a really rough go in this business. Either you're buying _really_ crappy domains and are thus willing to sell them that cheap, or, you're asking way too little for decent domains. Its not even worth my time to sell for $xxx to an end user. Especially when that end user was probably willing to pay 10x that price. If you don't demand it, you wont get it... Its as simple as that. I hard pass on $xxx and low $xxxx offers all the time - even if its a domain I just picked up in TBR for $50. Often they eventually pay my price - and it more than offsets the difference from the missed sales that I pass on.

5. Yes, TBR has been lacking anything really good, but there are always a few I'm willing to pick up - so at least I'm getting them all for minimum bids!

This is the proper strategy for any premium domain you have in the portfolio, but there are the odd hangers-on that I have let for for low prices simply to get rid of them rather than dropping them.

But yeah, if you're talking primo stuff, letting them go for a song is a self-defeating strategy and you'll never make any real money.

P.S. Where do most of your sales come from, inquiries or outbound?

And when TBR times are good I can't believe what falls through the cracks - I had Caliban.ca listed on my Top Picks List, and it went unselected (??)... so I bought it for $1 on that GD sale a few weeks later - already got 2 offers through the CIRA contact form and it's getting a nice bit of traffic.

I can see that one selling soon.

We need to start emailing the CIRA asking them to delete the June 3 data so it's easier to parse without getting mixed up.

I'm running searches and X character filters and it's 60-70% junk from last week. >:(

So what does everyone think of:

p0rn.ca

I'm not a big fan of zero-domains, but I think someone will pick this up, hopefully cheap.

Cheap on pickup and cheap on sale.

In my opinion a waste of effort

Not a big fan either. But the zero is close to the O, so it may have been good back in the day with type-in typos.

But no chance I'd go for it in 2019

Yeah, I think this is definitely a "pick up after the drop" option, hopefully on sale.

One reason to grab it would be if you already own or operated under the real PORN.CA, just for brand protection.
