advice Cannot get domain owners information

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Hello everyone! I need serious help. While this domain isn't super valuable, I would like to find the owner of it but the owner has his or herself completely shrouded. I looked up via WHOIS, search Google for the domain and to see if something pops up with the owner but absolutely no such luck. Does anyone have any other suggestions, other than hiring Sedo or GoDaddy brokerage services.

Even if private there is always some sort of domain by proxy email address. Have you tried it?

  • I presume that there is no operating website and when you enter the domain name URL it does not have any kind of lander.
  • If no website, have you tried entering the name on Dofo.com which will see if it is for sale anywhere at the couple of dozen marketplaces they cover. It is possible it is listed, but just not at the marketplaces you tried.
  • You might try something like info (at) domainName as it may have catchall email.
  • As @xynames says there should be a way to contact the owner through the registrar in an anonymous sort of way, even with privacy.
I hope that you are able to make contact, @namesquare.

@Bob Hawkes I will try this. I tried searching but it doesn't appear it's for sale anywhere. I just tried doing the email method. Waiting to see if I get an 'unknown email' reply or if it goes through. They have the domain pointed to GoDaddy. I mean super shrouded.

@xynames Just tried it. Still waiting. I hope this method works.

It will definitely work as in the email will get to the domain owner but it will be his choice whether to respond.

@xynames & @Bob Hawkes

I haven't received an 'unknown email' response, I assume this is good but I know I can still receive one. I am also hoping he or she will receive the email and will respond. They owned the domain for nearly 20 years and just have it pointed to Google. I checked archive.org and it doesn't appear to have ever been website. I really hope I can acquire the domain. It will help out greatly. Not very valuable but quite catchy.

DomainIQ can usually get you info that makes it easier to track back contact info and ownership. I have been able to find quite a few, others have refereed to me.

Between DomIQ (or sim data), archive.org, and some Google skip tracing skills - your odds are at least 70% of getting a good contact (#,email, etc) - remember thats is a good contact, not getting the name or even the contact to return your outreach.

Many registrars are using the so-called proxy email addresses which work in the forwarding mode, when Privacy is enabled.
GoDaddy is one of them.

Maybe lookup who is history via whoxy.com, check archive.org or Google the domain may have been an old business contact still in a directory if it was developed.

But that would likely involve using some sort of domain brokerage service they provide. The domain I am wanting is registered with GoDaddy and I am quite sure they would want me to buy their domain brokerage services. We'll see because I e-mailed a random email address, idea courtesy of @Bob Hawkes and @xynames and see where it leads. I'll give it two weeks or so to see if I get a response. I am hoping I get a response within that time. The sooner, the better of course.

You have probably thought of this, but you did try Googling to find "@name.com" i.e. including the at symbol in case an unprotected email address for the domain name is listed anywhere on the internet (and then see if it is still in use).

I am not technical enough to know the answer to this, but I am sure lots of other people are: In a domain with privacy is it possible to look up if it has MX records and therefore if it has active mail accounts?

Tried this but nothing came up.

I tried this a few times but I haven't heard from the owner of the domain. It is possible they received the message but are not interested in selling, but if I do not know I will keep trying until I hear from them. It's difficult to say.

Did you stated your email address or your phone number within the message you sent to the parking company? or you just saying that you were interested to buy the domain?

I just stated that I was interested in acquiring the domain. There is a part of the form that ask for my email. I think I remember adding my email in the body of the message too.

Chances are they took up privacy after paying for domain so full domain history may reveal.

The "method" I suggested, sending an email via the WhoIs will get forwarded to the owner's real email via the domain by proxy, unless the owner has submitted a bogus email address for WhoIs which is unlikely. As I mentioned, privacy just hides the contact info from the world, but still the email address listed there does forward automatically to the concealed private email of the domain owner.

Given that the email you send via the way I suggested WILL make it to the owner, knocking yourself out trying to contact him any other way is probably a waste of time. If he doesn't respond he doesn't want to respond.

You have to try Godaddy Broker service then:
Domain Broker Service
They will contact the current owner on your behalf. If it's for sale, we'll do all we can to get it for you!

Sometimes when historical whois data is lacking, also look at historical hosting records and similar keyword registrations. Occasionally they will help narrow down the registrant as well. Another really good strategy, if you are looking to acquire the name, is to reach out to the registrar. GoDaddy/Uniregistry, for example, have marketplaces so they are interested in facilitating transactions. That may work, but be prepared as not everyone wants to sell, or they may have registered the name for a third party. That happens with some IT/webmaster folks.

A regular who is will only show the current owner but a full history report will generally reveal the information you want. If you like my site PND you should find a link there for history look ups but be sure to checkout my traffic.tools.

@lock PremiumNameDomain.COM is a really cool and interesting website. I am shocked you haven't acquired PND.COM, that would be really cool. Your website has a ton of information, a lot going on. I spent quite I bit of time going through your website and checking things out. Looks like you've spent quite some time building that out. Impressive! I really really really love the layout for some reason.

The domain I want has been registered since 2000, and I think it's been the same owner, but it's difficult to say for sure. I will so more research on this domain.

If you’re still not having any luck, DM me the domain and I’ll check a few private sources as well as check whether there’s any technical information that may provide clues.
