What difference does it make?

My oldest one has a date in whois of "Before 1996" (battle dot cooooh dot ukayy).

The oldest one that I have with an actual date is Oct 1997 survey maker dot com.

The difference is the date in the whois

1995. Only around 16,000 websites at the time.

Even so, that and a few bucks will probably get you a cup of coffee.

I think you have the wrong date. Wikipedia has a list of the oldest domains ever registered and the date you mentioned doesn't appear there:

Very few domains were registered in 1985. The oldest one I've ever owned was from 1990. These days the oldest ones I have are from 1995.
