This statement has just been released by BrandBucket

I am excited to announce that I have reached an agreement with Michael Rader, the owner of Brandroot.com, for BrandBucket to acquire the assets of Brandroot.

Over the next few months the leadership of both platforms will be joining forces and combining their experience and resources to work towards the unified goal of getting the most exposure possible for all of the domain name inventory on both platforms. This includes streamlining the operations of the sales and support teams, and merging all marketing efforts.

I and the whole team at BrandBucket are proud to be working with Mr. Rader, who has built a strong brand and who’s marketplace shares the same core mission and goals as BrandBucket: Equality for all sellers, fair and reasonable pricing, and a superior buyer experience from first visit to close of sale.

As a BrandBucket seller, you will be benefiting from the attention of new support staff, and from the addition of great inventory to the marketplace which drives more visitors to the site, meaning more eyes on your names. We will also be maximizing traffic from the great content on Brandroot.com and from links that Mr. Rader has created over the years.

You can read the official press release here: BrandBucket Inc Acquires Brandroot LLC

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. I can be reached on the BrandBucket Slack board, or by email at [email protected].

Best regards,

Margot Bushnaq
Founder and CEO, BrandBucket

Bad news. At least, at BR there was no search bias and as a result I was selling 2x more at BR with 1/2 inventory and with BB rejects.

I recently left BB to do my own thing, so this news doesn't really affect me. Also, I'm not sure an avalanche of new domains would have helped my cause with sales.

But, everyone has there own experience and partnerships can be a good thing. Best of luck with the new deal!

Announcement from BrandRoot

Not Goodbye, Just a New Hello...

I am pleased to announce that I have reached an agreement with Margot Bushnaq and the team at BrandBucket for them to acquire the assets of Brandroot. I will be working closely with them in the coming weeks on a transition of operations, and in the coming months to merge the inventory of both marketplaces. I am excited that we will be able to use our combined expertise and resources to drive as many visitors as possible to your names and to maximize your sales.

As the owner of Brandroot, I am fully committed to helping during the transition and being available to you as always. As a seller myself on Brandroot, I am also supportive of the change and excited about the increased exposure that my names will be getting as part of a larger marketplace and community. BrandBucket has extensive reach, influence, and trust in the startup community. Teaming with them will no doubt benefit us all.

As you may already know, BrandBucket and Brandroot share similar values and strategies. At the end of the transition period, all domains currently on Brandroot will be migrated to BrandBucket, and if you do not already have a seller account on BrandBucket we will create one for you. We will be communicating with you every step of the way, and we will explain any parts of BrandBucket’s terms, policies, fees and commissions that may be different than Brandroot's. Our goal is to make the transition as smooth and as positive as possible!

You can read the official press release here: [link]

This is certainly not goodbye, but I would like to thank all of you for your investment and confidence in Brandroot over the years. You have been a very easy crowd to manage and it was always my pleasure and excitement to announce your sales to you. Each sale was a return on the trust you put in me personally, and it always was and still is my chief end to ensure that your domains are handled carefully and are in front of as many potential buyers as possible. I hope this comes as a positive and welcome change to you as it does to me.

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. I can be reached on the Brandroot Slack board, or by email at [email protected]. The BrandBucket staff will also be joining our Slack board today, so be sure to say hi!

PRESS RELEASE
LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) JUNE 27, 2019

BrandBucket Inc., a business name marketplace featuring premium domain names, has acquired Brandroot LLC, a business name marketplace in the same sector, for an undisclosed amount. The official acquisition date is June 20, 2019.

BrandBucket is a reputed leader in self-service branding for startups. Launched in 2007 by entrepreneurs that were frustrated by the experience of finding a quality domain name for their projects, BrandBucket provides a shopping experience of available business names and business logos. As a marketplace, BrandBucket connects the owners of premium and unused domain names with buyers by providing inventory curation, pricing guidelines, and a fluid browsing and checkout experience.

Founded in 2012, Brandroot is a similar marketplace catering to the same target customer. This acquisition brings together a combined inventory of over 70,000 quality domain names and a community of over 1000 domain name sellers.

“One of the most important ways we advance BrandBucket's mission is by helping other businesses realize theirs,” said Margot Bushnaq, CEO of BrandBucket. "By providing a place where owners of quality digital assets can connect with buyers looking for those assets, we serve both ends of the startup community: business owners starting new ventures that need great brands, and business owners at the end of their ventures that are holding valuable internet assets."

"BrandBucket has extensive reach, influence, and trust in the startup community," said Michael Rader, founder of Brandroot. "Teaming with them will no doubt benefit both sellers and buyers."

More details on the specifics of the acquisition will be announced at a later date on https://www.brandbucket.com and https://www.brandroot.com.

A bit ironic that Michael Radar uses Gmail instead of his own domain for his email :)

Any news on the deal size??

I hope it is a best deal for both parties, best of luck in future as well.

On the off record, now you will also find your names on BB which were not accepted but were accepted on BR and vice versa.... :xf.wink:

Interesting to see what will happen to everyone’s sell through rate with 75K plus domains to compete against.

can you buy brandpa next?

More inventory is almost certainly going to mean less eyes on your listings contrary to the emails claims. Just BB taking out its biggest rival. I'd be surprised if this turns out to be a good thing for the average domainer with names listed at BR or BB.

I think I missed a piece of this puzzle. When did Michael Radar (brandroot founder & CEO) sell BrandRoot.com to @KeithDeBoer (former BB ambassador).

But anyway, my congrats to both parties. I hope the consolidation works for both of you.

Where did you see that? It seems Margot is in control of the domain brandroot.com, according to the whois.

Edit: Whois details removed. No need to show them here.

I see it in post #3 of this thread.

I think he was just copying and pasting the press release. Anyway, it would be interesting to hear Keith's take on this. I do not think it is great, to be honest. 60K+ names is a lot for potential buyers to choose between...

I posted a copy of Rader's email to BR sellers -- that is my only involvement. I know only what's posted in this thread, same as everyone else. (y)

PS in late 2018..... BrandBucket and I decided the Brand Ambassador program had run it's course and outlived its usefulness. So the program was discontinued and I retired from that position but I still have a large portfolio of domains listed at BB. [link in my signature] :)

My opinion on the merger is we'll have to see. BR brings lots of traffic and a strong customer base to BB but it also brings a ton of inventory. So it sort of balances out I think.

In my observations there is a honeymoon phase for all new brandable platforms - when they are the new kid on the block and they are spending heavily on advertising and their inventory is small. During this window of time the sell thru rate is very high and everyone goes bonkers with expansion. Both sellers and the platform. But then the platform sees it can spend less on ads and their seller inventory becomes bloated and the sell thru rates are reduced -- sometimes quickly.

I see this happening with both BrandPa (later stage) and SquadHelp (early stage) right now. It happened years ago on BB.

So if you're on BB now and you are making money it's because customers are using the search feature and your names are above average and getting picked up despite the vast number of choices. In that scenario it would seem that the sell thru will stay the same at BB - but that is my conjecture. We just have to see.

If not, then we now have one less option - unless a new marketplace opens and everyone chases that short term opportunity. :xf.grin:

Bb never sold one of mine in 2 years even though they were 5L brandable. Com

5l brandable requires exposure. Bb makes sure to hide them for any top search or category.

Along with the inventory shift comes the Brandroot buyers and traffic. It's a win for both sides. BB will be increasing in brandable name authority for buyers and a trustworthy, solid platform for brandable sellers. If a company isn't expanding and seeking out new opportunity, it's typically failing in its complacency.
This should be nothing but good news for BB and BR fans. Growth is always a good sign of longevity and health for any business.

Growth in innovation and platform advancements can be a good thing for business but a growth in inventory can lead to oversaturation. In my opinion (which isn't worth much) BB was at its best when there were below 10,000 listings and quality was the name of the game. Once it became oversaturated seller's looked for another outlet which is why BR became the go to marketplace. I'm not so sure that swallowing the competition is in the best interests of the seller.
