I'm Mike, recently into domain name. The first domain I bought was around a little more than one year ago, it was a .fun I hand regged and it was promoted at a very low price; a very marketable and easy to remember one word name oriented towards the business of entertainment articles. Not worth much on the GD appraisal tool, but it's just a bot, right? If some celebrity happened to like this domain for a new entertainment project, the price of this "worthless" domain would suddenly skyrocket, so I take it that the value of domain names highly depends on trends. Information must be key in this business, no doubt. The "worthless" domain name of today may be the king domain name of tomorrow. Also true for all areas of life.
Anyway, bots are certainly very useful in helping us to see invaluable details we may otherwise miss, but we, humans, should have the final say at the true value of a domain, right?
Right now, the few domains I recently bought are hand regged, as I am too broke to bid $$$$ on some of the most marketable and easy to remember aged domains.
So I hand regged very marketable and easy to remember .com domains.
As they say, “One man's trash is another man's treasure."

Hello!

The appraisal and estimated value of most domains is usually a bit open ended, although throughout this site are a number of threads, posts and opinions re same.

There is an APPRAISAL section where you might get some basic ideas re name values. Also a nice section covering domain names reported sold by members, helpful too for name evaluations.

Also, there are a number of excellent domain name appraisals written by NamePros Eric Lyon, his appraisals are excellent in analysis and his detailed process is always a valuable read,

Welcome to NamePros!

Just a bit before... sometime...somewhere...a bot has a joker's laugh after a plot to take over the world with a virus changing humans into zombie bots...wait...a bot can't laugh, right? :)

Hello fellow Human .. and welcome to NamePros! :)

You definitely do not want to take automated valuations too seriously. There is some value in the information that they give, but mainly simply to use to compare to other domains, and NOT as a reliable value for your domain(s).

Also .. rather than buy $xxxx on the high side, and handreg on the low side .. I suggest you look into Closeout domains. I'm doing relatively well with them! :)

Good luck going forward! :)

It must take a lot of patience to crawl the closeout and find some hidden brandable gems...not for the faint of heart...but will definitely take a shot at that ! Thanks, man !
