A Peter Thiel backed company that recently landed $5 million has decided to rebrand. They are rebranding from Drive Motors to Modal. They have the exact match Drive Motors in .com, but with their new name they are using Modalup.com.....Doh!

The exact match Modal.com is currently parked.

Ironically, not noticing the branding confusion and the accessibility issue, the company stated:

β€œThe platform starts with just creating accessibility to a digital transaction, but it becomes the ultimate channel to introduce an entire ownership operating system, which can span everything from the more contemporary mundane automotive needs like servicing, all the way through introducing the most far out mobility or connected vehicle features.”

SMH... I don't get it. I could see them buying Modal.com and rebranding that way, but from DriveMotors.com to ModalUp.com ??

They should think of spending some of that cash on their webdeveloper. Looks like crap on my phone.

Anyway, I agree. Modalup does the job but I'd persue modal.com for sure. Maybe they tried but didn't like the price.

Or just change their brand to "Modal Up" for a low cost solution.

I wouldn't be worried as Peter Thiel always acquires the exact domains for his companies.

Just check Palantir.com, Valar.com, Mithril.com and Clarium.com (among others).

Branding is tough in general as people will search for generic unless educated to what the brand is. So many large companies have failed with brands and although a trend industries using brands would own generic if it was that simple or available often used in saturated industries.
