sales Why the €700,000 Links.com Sale Was a Record Breaker for Sedo

Spaceship Spaceship
This morning, Sedo announced via Twitter that they sold the domain name Links.com for €700,000. The domain marketplace routinely brokers six-figure sales including the recent $400,000 Casinos.org sale, but what makes this more interesting is that Links.com was sold at the "buy now" price without the involvement of any domain name broker.

The €700,000 sale makes Links.com the most expensive fixed price domain sale ever on Sedo's platform, beating the previous public record holder, Star.org's $225,000 fixed price sale, by quite a long way. According to DomainIQ's WHOIS history tool, the name was sold from the DomainEmpire.com portfolio, a company that has previously owned domains such as 77.com, which reportedly sold for over $5 million.

The buyer of Links.com looks to be AllMyLinks. Little is known about this website and after some research, it looks as though this venture was created in 2018 with the idea of allowing users to be paid for sharing links via social media. Currently, Links.com forwards to AllMyLinks.com, but this may be the start of an effort to rebrand to Links.com.

Sedo confirmed to me this morning that the buyer of Links.com found the domain name via the Sedo marketplace directly. It's interesting that there were no negotiations involved with this sale, and the buyer was willing to pay €700,000 outright. Would they have paid more without a "buy now" price being set, or did the "buy now" price facilitate this deal?

The sale of Links.com will rank as the fifth largest domain sale of 2019, beating the $600,000 sale of MediData.com to the fifth spot.

Updated June 25th at 15:20 BST for clarification regarding the sales venue.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
That is quite the BIN price! Wonder at buyer's thinking not trying to negotiate down. Perhaps feared price would go up, or felt it was fair, or had info that another party was interested and wanted to be sure they were the owner. Thanks for another great article, James!

Good price. You can't do much with links, except for clicking and exchanging, and redirecting. It can be confused with linx lynx linux etc.

It would be awesome if the buyer would tell the world their thought process when they made the purchase.

Links would have been great for the golf industry and I assumed it was one of the biggies in the golf booking biz that made the purchase.

I am a fan of having 'buy it now' on domains...you never know when someone will stumble onto your domain and act out of urgency to get the domain before someone else does (I know I do this when I find a name I want...no negotiating, I determine its value and buy it if it is reasonable).

Been some amazing plural sales within last 12 months.

We've seen 2 this week (mid 6 figures +) in Casinos.org and now Links.com and i would regard those 2 as the weaker variants.

Nice sale!

What wonders me is the fact they didn't even try to negotiate to get a cheaper price.

Maybe a competitor was actually negotiating for the domain and they decided to take action (just guessing).

Anyways, it's a great sale. A startup investing on a premium .com to expand their activities (y)

To me it seems the buyer might have negotiated with the right owner of the domain before clicked on Buy now price.
Though, no one know how much the seller bought it; but it looks like a good price for the Seller.

Thanks to @James Iles for the good jobs you are doing here.

Lucky seller! without a broker with high BIN

I am very curious, this is different from link dot com, I saw on Twitter that link dot com on the sedo listing, use an exclusive broker and make an offers, but it hasn't been sold hahaha
