So I wrote a post yesterday on TheDomains.com that broke down and highlighted the sale of nPay.com. I thought Riz M explaining his process of how he purchased the name, sold it quick, how he uses retargeting and how he doesn't buy domain names if they have a lander for sale page was interesting.

So the first comment out the gate is someone putting Namepros on absolute blast. I really don't understand how a discussion of nPay.com brought about the following comment:

nPay.com for 2 K? How did he acquire this domain for that low price? Was the seller?
a) an heir to a recent domain portfolio, and w/zero knowledge of domain valuations;
b) in dire straits, needing funds for an urgent and perhaps critical matter;
c) so rich that money is of zero interest any more.
d) negligent in adding at least another zero

Per Retargeting: I thought this was banned for privacy reasons

So glad I no longer visit Namepros. I used to feel like I was entering the dark web of domaining: predatory buying, desperate sellers, domain netters employed by professional domain investors to fish for valuable domains offered for sale by the unknowing heirs of dead domain owners who possibly paid 20-30 X the amounts for these “estate bulk domain sales” at 1/10 of their values. Humanity at its worse. Bottom feeders, rude members, and the ones I feel empathy for: the naive domain newbies who have come to NamePros.com to learn about domaining and strike it rich, usually by buying castaway domains at double or triple the values.

@TheLegendaryJP had a very good reply which you can read right below the first comment

Yeah I know but I did not want to alter the quote from the comment in the headline here.

I really don't get the point you're trying to convey here.

I don't think the commenter was trying to make a point but rather just blast Namepros and I thought it was highly uncalled for, Josh made a great comment in reply, and I added some context in my comment. It's just nuts how people jump to conclusions about a forum when we were discussing a domain sale.

Sour grapes, sour grapes, as Josh commented on your website....

Who cares. Just someone’s opinion.

I just wanted to add that this usually comes down to either ignorance or ulterior motives (E.g. agenda to discredit the forum, cause division, or vent), or a combination of them.

Example: There are some members who respond very hostile when we issue them rule reminders and they use any opportunity they get to attack us. NamePros also gets blamed for many bad experiences caused by other members, sometimes without the issue ever being reported to us, which is unfortunate since it’s not our doing and we didn’t get a chance to try to resolve it.

It just comes with the territory of a community this large, but we’ll keep trying the impossible task of keeping as many members happy as possible. ;)

Thanks for helping to keep a pulse on the industry.

I mean the point of the thread. People bitch all the time, about everything. It wasn't even a comment on namepros. Nothing out of the ordinary.

People don't usually go after Namepros like that. Way over the top imo.

I closed down an automotive forum years back when a banned member came to my door and threatened my wife and kids. The forum was making good money but I decided right there and then to close it down, there is just no way of pleasing everyone.

What can be so important on a forum that one would go to someone's house? :facepalm:

Exactly Maple, in the early days of the .tv sub forum here, there were some looney tunes, I one time had to talk someone out of flying across the country to punch another member in the face. When I asked what did the member do that would be worth airfare, your time, potential arrest on assault and battery? The reply, "he dissed my names."

I remember some of that...when I first saw some of the posts I though it was two 'friends' teasing each other.

Sadly there are plenty of loonies out there, and it seems to be getting worse. I see it in brick and mortar stores, in ball parks, concert venues and mostly on highways and side streets. Watched in dismay yesterday after a young dude (25ish...not a man but a 'dude' or 'boy') got out of his car to berate an elderly woman that appeared to be be about 95 and was terrified by the traffic and didn't understand the traffic circle (these are new in my current area). She probably should not have been driving but it may have been a medical emergency...this punk was quickly put in his place by several people including a trucker whose truck he had blocked when he got out to scream at the poor lady. Had he not made back into his stupid little race-car-wanna-be and sped off, he would have been taught a lesson.

Yeah it's pretty pathetic any guy yelling at an elderly woman, what if it was your grandmother? Disgusting.

I remember that and it stirred a lot of memories for me. I was newly married with my little boy when my wife called me in hysterics telling me someone had threatened my boys life. Turned out it was a banned member that had somehow tracked me down even though I ran the forum under an alias.

He also got a different ip address-rejoined and posted my real identity on the forum. I then had to call the police and get a restraining order only to have a vulgar message spray painted on my garage.

The last straw was when the name of my son was spray painted on the garage a few weeks later with a skull and an X over his name. The cops said they could not charge him because nobody saw him do it and at that point my identity was revealed and all the crazies were coming out of the woodwork so I could not say for sure that it was the original guy.

Riz M is easily the best new domainer over the last 12-18 months.

I think je has probably done more in sales than many long term members on here.

He is a shining example to all newcomers that if you work hard and really think about what you're doing there is still money to be made in this industry.

That's sick. Are there no laws against death threats?

That just seems to be the nature of capitalism. Well, what does the OP think of the stock market?
