Hi everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself as I'm new here. I'm a web developer from BC Canada. Over the last few years I've been finding myself looking for other ways to generate income online and have found an interest in buying and selling domains but don't really know where to begin.. and that is how I stumbled upon this message board.

I'm an impulse domain buyer. Like I said, I'm always trying to find ways to generate income online which usually turns into an idea for an eCommerce store or blog and then before you know it... I've purchased domain names for that idea. The problem is I never follow through with the ideas and so they just sit there and then a year later I'm forced to pay the renewal fees because apparently I have a hard time letting things go.

I'd love to try selling a few of the domains I currently have, just to get some experience and figure this whole 'game' out. I doubt any of them are worth much as I didn't purchase them in hopes of profiting from them, but if I can sell them for a bit more than I paid, or for what I paid.. then I guess that's a start!

I'm looking at this right now as something fun and different to do in my spare time... y'know while I'm waiting around for clients to supply their damn content for the website that they wanted done yesterday.

Cheers!

Hello from a fellow Canadian (in Montreal) .. and welcome to NamePros! :)

Your story is very similar to mine (and many others), as I used to have a rather large website ages ago .. and have since acquired a few domains along the way with development intentions .. but I never figured out how to make a 30 hour day .. so .. renew .. renew .. renew ... until one day I woke up and figured it was time to start domaining! That was late 2016 .. things are going well for me at this point (in the world of domains .. rest of life is chaos with flooding, knee issues and a bunch of other life stuffs).

Be careful going forward .. there's a massive delta between good domains for end users vs good domains to invest in. Take your time to figure out the differences ... given your background it shouldn't take as long as most.

Good luck going forward! :)

Hello!

Impulse buying is a rather common description for many domain sellers early in their domain endeavors.

It is noticeable as noted at renewal time and those hefty annual renewals are great training for more discerning and disciplined domain name buying.

There are innumerable threads, posts and opinions to read on NamePros on many buying and selling topics - search out those that approximate your domain name interests and endeavors and use 'em to help you formulate your own buying and selling strategies.

Welcome to NamePros!

Hi @LadyHawke and welcome to NPs (from a fellow BC, Canada resident, but on Vancouver Island). There are lots of Canadians on NPs :xf.smile:

it sounds like with your web experience you are already starting with a strong basis.

NPs is an amazingly active and collectively knowledgeable platform that can provide insights on virtually any issue. I love that we get views from so many.

I wish you the very best,

Bob
