Mixed type domains are used in corporate China, although not often. For example, No 90 in 2018 Top 100 Chinese Internet Companies Report (2018年中国互联网企业100强分析报告) is Fangdd.com (房多多). Personally, I don't like mixed type domains because they are hard to remember. I prefer straight Pinyin or straight acronym.

I have seen many are trying to sell .cn names with english names . example greencommerce.cn , are these names used in china or .cn is more preferable for chinese names . As surely the .com versions of most of these english words are already registered .

As governments set up walls on the internet to protect/control their own internets, country extensions will become very important. If your brand is X and you already own X.com, then it is also vital to own X.cn if you are going to enter the China market. For example, Amazon owns Amazon.com and in China it also operates on Amazon.cn.

Yes , but i was talking about the common names . Towards the resellers view . Certainly many doesnt have businesses in China yet they can register .cn names for reselling ? when they do that the common names are good ? or is there a restriction for registering .cn names ? only if the domain had .com it is ok to register .cn or people can register just for reselling them ?

Great article.

I'm getting about 30-50 uniques per day directly from China for ShuBao99.com , my best guess using Google translator is it's something related to books but this article has made me want to look for other possibilities.

Hey just wanted to get back to you on what I've discovered.

Moved the name to 4.CN and it's getting quite a few views, it does not have an alexa rank but monitored the name for 1 week using google analytics and an undeveloped lander and it's getting nearly 50 type in's per day. The name is also taken in .VIP, .NET, .CC, .CN. and Shubao999.com and Shubao9999.com are also registered.


Here is where I've got on my research:

Shubao99.com can be broken down into 2 parts:

Shubao:书包-->Book Bag--->Books
99:久久--->Jiu Jiu--->For a long time--->Forever


I see a lot of different websites using Shubao+N.com, Shubao+NN.com and Shubao+NNN.com. These sites are mostly "Book" networks where people can download/discuss and share novels. 99 is used commonly to refer to forever/long time or long term/eternal for example the best English translation I can surmise for 9939.com is something like Long Term Health, which makes sense as it's a Health related website. I've seen 99 used at the start when saying something like Long Term/Eternal+ PINYIN and 99 used at then when wanting to say PINYIN+ Forever or Long time for example Renqi99.com which equates to 人气久久 or Popularity/Famous Forever.


That has lead me to the conclusion that ShuBao99.com means---> Books Forever....or something along those lines. Seems like it would make a decent brand for an online book store/network/forum.

What are your thoughts?

It's an extremely rare domain name. As for "de", according to google translate, may mean moral, virtue, morality, kindness, or used as "of", ~'s (possessive particle). It may also mean to obtain, to get, to gain, proper, suitable, proud, contented, to allow, to permit, ready, finished, etc. -

Sorry for the late reply. I was not alerted to your post. Single letter is extremely rare like you said and .de is a very strong country extension, so overall it is very valuable imo. "y" could likely represent hundreds of Pinyin words so the possibility is great.

Personally I don't like acronym mixed with Pinyin, although there are actually Chinese companies using this approach, such as FangDD.com and HNjing.com. I like pure acronym such as JD.com (all acronym) for Jing Dong or Baidu.com for Bai Du (all Pinyin) which are straight forward and therefore easy to remember.

I understand mixed pin, but is Xwang mixed pin? Wang is net isn't it as used in .Wang? Is it not the same as saying XNet or Xweb in english?

Kassey superstrate words / terms are merging west east & eventually east west Bitcoin as an example Do Chinese netizen's use the word Bitebi cognitively or Bitcoin difficult to tell using Baidu. It is an interesting area specially if China brings DCEP into play in April as mooted...

Looks like xwang(.)com was previously developed as some kind of gaming website in the past from archive.com looks like Xiwang gaming community was the company name, under the moniker "King of Games", although when I go to yabla chinese, Xiwang shows up as "Hope". Depends on their take on it I guess as Wang also means King. I'm sure there are many potential uses for xwang(.)com.

There does appear to be some demand in L+1PIN.com domains from what I've viewed at 4.cn, but it must be a short 4L one pin yin term like FANG, DIAN, BIAO,WANG, BING,


Lets take the example of BIAO, which can mean wristwatch : 表

Here are some developed websites:

WBIAO.CN --->万表---> in this case I think they are going for something along the lines of "All watches/Many watches" or something because 万 or Wan means many..

XBIAO.COM--->Not quite sure what they are using the X for in this case as they call themselves 腕表之家---> Watch House. Care to provide some insight on this one?

Now lets take a look at FANG.

One the most bid on L+1PIN on 4.cn is MFANG.com which I believe means 买房 or "Buy a House" so it would be a solid name to be used for a real estate website.

iFang.com sold for $57,500 back in 2017, "i" is commonly used as it sounds like "ai" i.e love 爱 and is being used as a real estate website although the name itself translates to 爱房 "Love House".

LFang.com is also being used as a real estate portal.



I think the right L+4LPINYIN.com can work. All the ones if listed including my own have quite a bit of tld demand....i.e taken in many extensions like .cc, .cn, .com.cn, .tw etc. but it's only short names MAX 5L. Which makes sense as L+1PIN can be shorter than the 2PIN variant, not saying that it's better just an interesting way to look at it.

Just to make things clear, I was only looking at 5L.COM's where the 1st letter is a consonant and is followed by a 4L 1PIN WORD.

Xi Wang is Pinyin and can represent the Chinese characters 戏王 (king of games). If you can find the exact name on Chinese (.cn, .com.cn) or other extensions used in a commercial way, then you domain will be very valuable.
