I'm catching the tail end of this, seems to be some kind of controversy...

https://domaingang.com/domain-news/rob-monster-off-twitter-after-christchurch-massacre-controversy/

Must be something odd to evoke this type of a response from one of our members.

Incidentally, submarines have been traversing the north pole underneath the ice (and often breaching the ice) since the Nautilus did it in 1958. I personally know plenty of submariners who have done it:

And at sea, we can all see the curvature of the planet with the naked eye. A distant ship on the horizon appears only as its mast. The hull and deck are hidden behind the curvature of the earth. I've seen it plenty of times through a periscope. People who haven't spent much time staring at the open ocean looking for distant ships to run away from might not have noticed. But you can see it in photos online.

It appears that Nikola Tesla had extreme amounts of knowledge and wisdom.

He was truly gifted for sure...did a report on him as a youth that went 3 times beyond the required amount of pages...he was fascinating. What became of much of his research, experiments and writings after his death should be made into a movie...but I doubt it will.

The things Einstein ultimately gave us through his math are staggering...on my journey I have determined the Creator was, and is, the ultimate mathematician...our existence (matter, energy, cosmos) can all be reduced to mathematical equations all the way back to the big bang (1st picosecond) but break down at that point. To me that is the point at which God initiated our existence (regardless of any timeline).

Good stuff. Music is math. Good intro here.

And here:

And yet there are still people who think the universe is the product of randomness. Anyone who thinks that is lying to themselves. Plain and simple.

For sure, there is a long and storied history of highly intelligent people who were able to develop theories and constructs to explain away the existence of natural laws, fulfillment of prophecy, and supernatural miracles. Einstein's theory of Relativity and Darwin's theory of Evolution are both examples. This is "science". That is also the reason why the Bible, in both the old and new Testament, differentiates between knowledge and wisdom. A person can can definitely have the one and not the other.

Here is is one example:

Incidentally, Nikola Tesla, who roundly debunked Einstein, was raised an Orthodox Christian. His writing on faith demonstrate someone who was enlightened and tolerant. Tesla was absolutely a genius but he also gave credit to where credit was due.

Show attachment 120286

It appears that Nikola Tesla had extreme amounts of knowledge and wisdom. The irony is that now most people think "Tesla" is a car company led by Elon Musk, and more kids are likely to write biographies about Elon Musk (no comment) versus Nikola Tesla (a true genius). And that is how propaganda works.

yes I admire Tesla too.

Elon Musk
does so too.

The name of the tesla motor company was choosen
to honor this guy
and keep his memory alive
- as far as I know-

how can this serve as a proof of your like a 5 years old child world view
of a human like creator in the skys???

interesting

lets recall
you take this to prove there must be a creator ..

let's ignore the fact that the first video has chosen
to select really doubtful "music" to "entertain" us....

and move on directly to the proof of
"the creator of the universe must be a mathematician"

the universe has humor
so let me tell you that I'm a musician ...

... just yesterday I came across this video

it explains why
your video is based on wrong presumptions
and therefore can't prove anything

I'm quite sure the same is true for all your ideas
but I can't be asked to debunk them all

you will need a little intelligence of your own.

I am not planning to be an apologist for the "flat earth" view but to address your points here:

1. The flat earth thesis is unipolar -- a magnetic north at the center and an outer ice wall. So, yes, traversing the north pole would be possible but, in the flat earth model, the south pole is essentially unfindable.

upload_2019-5-31_10-56-5.png

2. The disappearing mast over the horizon can be explained by perspective. A high zoom camera like a Nikon P900 is cheap these days. There is even 1200X zoom now combining optics and magnification which allow consumers to extend the horizon dramatically. More here:

The topic is certainly an interesting mental exercise, e.g. if the world were to be unipolar, then one could be constantly orienting east/west at 90 degrees of due north and you would go in a circle, i.e. you could circumnavigate the flat earth by going due east or due west and end up where you started.

Good luck.

OK. That makes sense. Traversing the north pole is not impossible in a flat-earth world.

I'm not sure I understand the geometry of a flat earth. Does this sound like the right model, in your view?

- The earth is flat and circular like a vinyl record.
- It's finite with an edge.
- North is in the center.
- South is at the edge in all directions (360 degrees).
- Moving north means moving toward the center.
- Moving south means moving away from the center, toward the edge.
- Moving west means traveling clockwise in a circle around the North center.
- Moving east means traveling counterclockwise in a circle around the North center.

That much I can understand. But where is the sun? And how does the sun move?

Would it be correct to say that the sun is somewhere above the vinyl record? At least during the day. That would explain how the sun shines down on the earth, and how we see it above us in the sky.

But in that case, if the sun is above the vinyl record, the sun will shine down on the whole world all at once. It will be daytime everywhere on the planet at the same time. I could put a gummy bear on vinyl record, as a stand-in for some human being. And we could always draw a straight line of sight between the gummy bear and the sun, if the sun is somewhere above the vinyl record during daylight hours.

That would have been plausible prior to the invention of the telegram, telephone, or wifi. Primitive man could easily assume that daytime was daytime everywhere in the world at once, and night was night everywhere in the world at once.

But, Rob, you have traveled all over the world. And you do conference calls all the time. You know that daytime in Tokyo is night elsewhere. So this flat earth model with a sun shining down on the whole vinyl disc is incompatible with your own daily experience.

Another thing that confuses me: What is a sunset or sunrise? In a flat earth model, how does that work?

Do we imagine the sun being above the vinyl disc during the day and beneath the vinyl disc during the night? So the sun moves in a circle above and below the vinyl disc, crossing beneath the edge at sunset and rising above the edge at night?

If that is how the flat earth model works, then I'm confused. If the sun passes from above to below the plane of the vinyl record during sunset, and from below to above the plane of the vinyl record during sunrise, then where does that occur? It's happening at some particular point beyond the edge of the disc. Where exactly?

Based on the flat-earth map you showed in the last post, Africa is on the left; South america is at the top; North America is on the right; and Australia is at the bottom. This is just arbitrary, since left / right / top / bottom have no real meaning. But it will help us get oriented regarding this sunset / sunrise question.

Let's say the sun dips beneath the edge of the flat disc earth on the LEFT and rises above the edge on the RIGHT. That means someone in Africa (which is on the left) would see a sunset happen directly South (toward the edge) and a sunrise directly North (toward the center). Meanwhile someone in North America (which is on the right) would see a sunset happen directly North (toward the center) and a sunrise directly South (toward the edge).

Yet how is that consistent with the daily experience of human beings everywhere in the world? We see the sun rise in the East and set in the West. In a flat-earth world, it seems there is no possible motion of the sun that could result in that observable fact.

In the north of Norway in the summer, the sun never sets. It just dips its toe in the water and rises again. It's a common sight. I've personally seen it. But I have no clue how that would be explained in a flat-earth world.

And the seasons?

I would challenge anybody to build a kindergarten model of a flat-earth world that can explain basic day-to-day facts like sunrise and sunset, the seasons, lack of any sunset, or time zones. It's not just a false theory. It's an incoherent theory. Geometrically impossible.

I think we are probably living in parallel universes because I don't recall linking to Gab in this thread. I rarely even mention Gab for that matter. Nor am I a stakeholder there.

I also think my references to Epik products and services are relatively infrequent, and besides the thread is about Epik so it is actually on point.

As for what is true, it is always absolute. Our discovery and understanding of truth is a journey. The challenge is to know when you know something for certain, and when you have a hypothesis.

I would not want to be what the Bible calls:

Anyway, if you are going to accuse me, at least use facts. Otherwise you lose credibility, not just in this thread, but generally.

Joseph - you are definitely going down the rabbit hole now. As I said, I am not going to be an apologist for the Flat Earth theory, but you are asking all the right questions, and for which there is an abundance of answers from guys who are about this topic, e.g. guys like Jeranism, Eric Dubay, Rob Skiba, etc..

So is the earth a flat circle like a disc or a vinyl record?

Or is it like the top half of a basketball, with curvature but no bottom half?

The only way there can be daylight in one part of the world while it's night in another part of the world is if there is if the sun can be located somewhere WITH a direct line of sight to the daylight part of the world but WITHOUT a direct line of sight to the non-daylight part of the world.

With a flat disc that's obviously impossible. So are we talking about a spherical earth – but chop the sphere in half and throw away the bottom?

If you don't see what I mean, Rob, then try to build a physical model. Draw a map of the world on a circular piece of paper. Then get a grape – call it the sun – and try to move it around in whatever pattern you like, in such a way that some part of the map (but not the other part) can see the grape.

Well, the thread just passed 50,000 views and still going strong!

Flat earth...I love it. Been playing golf with a guy for ten years and this came up the other day and he says he thinks it is true...so yesterday I cut a golf ball in half and gave it to him to play with this am (I could not play today so I can not report how well he did with it). If he does not come to his senses soon, I may have to replace him in our foursome!?!?!

As you know, I have a few companies to run, so I am not going to be the resident expert on flat earth. There are people who are authorities on these topics. Some of them have developed elaborate 3D models:

As you are declared atheist you are dabbling with the polar opposite of your world view. In my experience, most are incapable of doing that -- the cognitive dissonance becomes too overwhelming.

Even though I am a committed Christian, I do try to understand other views, even a Satanist or Wiccan, being confident that "greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world." (1 John 4:4)

By the same token, although I don't rely on the Talmud, Bhagavad Gita, or Koran as my Holy Writ, I can still appreciate that it informs a tremendous number of people's world view, both directly and indirectly.

That's prudent.

I know numerous conservative christians and muslims. Until about a month ago, I had never met anyone (or realized I had met anyone) who believed the world was flat. I daresay the vast majority of christians, jews, and muslims during the past 2000 years – those with some education, no matter how conservative – believed the world was a sphere and saw no conflict between the shape of the planet and their religion.

It's not my wish to debate whether or not the Bible implies a flat earth. I'm simply curious about the flat-earth model, which (as far as I can see) is incoherent. Can anybody explain to me how Night and Day can happen simultaneously in a flat-earth world? It seems that's absolutely impossible.

This is different from disputing Evolution – in the sense that Creationists DO have a coherent alternative explanation. Even though I consider that explanation incorrect, I would regard it as coherent. I can restate Creationism as a plausible theory, which (theoretically) the facts may or may not confirm.

For instance: Humans were always humans, and they had a first ancestor who was invented from scratch and who did not descend from anybody. Humans and apes are not distant cousins. Ostriches and hummingbirds did both not descend from some other bird-like creature. Tigers and elephants did not both descend from some other hairy creature. Whales are not descended from land mammals. Land mammals are not descended from sea creatures. Life itself was invented and placed on earth and did not arise spontaneously. Each species has always been as it is now. Some have gone extinct. Others might have been invented later and placed on earth. Complex organs like the eye were designed and did not arise spontaneously.

I don't regard the foregoing paragraph as true. But it is coherent. I can understand it. It's internally consistent. The inventor of species could (theoretically) be God or aliens or robots or (maybe some day) even humans. That might be wrong as a matter of history, but it's not crazy at all. Superficially it's actually quite implausible and counterintuitive to believe that complex organs can be invented on their own or that whales and mice and humans and giraffes are all cousins with the same Grandpa. I believe the facts show Evolution to be true. But it is a surprising kind of truth, if true.

That's what I mean when I say Creationism – true or false – is coherent. But this flat-earth world? Try as I might, I cannot restate or explain that hypothesis at all. It crumbles to bits in in my hands. The most familiar observations – sunsets and sunrises, daytime in the USA and nighttime in Europe, summer and winter – have to be ignored, apparently, in order to believe in a flat earth.

You are definitely dabbling in red pill territory. It is worth it. I started in 2007, the year I turned 40.

After all that time investigating, have you found any explanation for simultaneous day and night, seasons, sunsets and sunrises?

There ought to be a simple explanation for such things that could be taught to elementary school children. I mean, if the flat-earth theory is true and you want to prevent kids from being taught terrible lies about a spherical earth, then we need a "This is how it works" explanation to give the kids.

I can't think of any. So I'm stuck with the simple, coherent theory of a spherical earth that I was taught when I was knee high.

That ancient theory of a spherical earth fits every observation I've been able to make during my lifetime. But that's not proof. Newtonian physics fit every observation of its day; and we couldn't discard that model until years after Einstein's theory contradicted it, when we finally found a conflicting observation. It's always possible that some future observation might contradict a spherical earth, and then I'd be willing to chuck what I was taught.

But for a flat-earth theory to be plausible, it needs to fit our own observations. And for it to be convincing, it needs to be explainable. So far, we have (A) a spherical earth theory that kindergarten kids can understand; and (B) a flat-earth theory that I, as an open-minded somewhat intelligent adult, can't make any sense of, no matter how hard I try.

Maybe we can avoid the need to make sense of a flat earth and can dismiss all of its contradictions if we rely on God to cause us inescapable hallucinations or to perform continuous miracles that defy geometry. But if I were God, I would have created a reality that could sustain itself with orderly Laws and principles instead of unintelligible math-defying miracles and continuous hallucinations.

As explained prior, I am not here to convince anyone of any particular view -- religious or otherwise. I will happily empower anyone's ability to ask questions and to seek answers.

As for specific topics that are not part of public school curriculum, to engage me as an authority on every topic would be a stretch. There are people who have gone extremely deep on any one of these topics.

Specific to the flat earth topic, it is not a new topic. It is suppressed but not new. Zetetic astronomy of the mid-1800's and the Gleason azimuthal map of the late-1800's had significant following in their day.

These days, there are entire online communities and conferences dealing with these questions. For example, here is one model that shows seasons:

For anyone going down the rabbit hole for the first time, my advice is don't let it consume you. The amount of content is endless and there is an abundance of disinfo and misinfo mixed in.

And, last but not least, be forewarned, because the closer you get to the truth, the more likely it is that you become a Christian.

There are people who have gone extremely deep on any one of these topics.

I'm sure there are. But I have no need to chase down such lost souls.

All I need is a straightforward explanation for sunsets and sunrises, seasons, simultaneous day and night.

I can give such an explanation in about 60 seconds, based on a spherical earth.

But if I ask for something similar from someone who believes in a flat earth, I'm told:

For anyone going down the rabbit hole for the first time, my advice is don't let it consume you. The amount of content is endless and there is an abundance of disinfo and misinfo mixed in.

So it's an endless labyrinth? And if I find the wrong explanation for sunsets from a flat earther, it's not that his theory is wrong; it's just that he was part of the "disinfo". In that case, why not just give me a straightforward explanation that you regard as true? Then we could discuss that – instead of chasing an endlessly moving target, endless in scope, with endless plausible deniability.

These days, there are entire online communities and conferences dealing with these questions.

And, despite all of that, nobody can tell me how the sun moves to cause simultaneous day and night?

Those of us who believe the earth is spherical can explain all these observable facts easily on a napkin. We don't need arcane conferences.

I'm sure the flat earthers have fun going to these conferences, endlessly trying to cope with a bad theory that can't adequately explain basic observable facts like the sun rising in the morning. But the rest of the world moved beyond those mental challenges thousands of years ago.

And, last but not least, be forewarned, because the closer you get to the truth, the more likely it is that you become a Christian.

I don't mind such risks. Wherever the evidence goes, I'll follow. But I've never met anybody until now – christian or otherwise – who believed the earth was flat. There are easier paths to christianity than swallowing that idea. And the vast majority of christians, who believe in a spherical earth, will get into heaven (if at all) just as easily without believing in a flat earth.

P.S. I don't have time for 13-minute videos. People who spend 10 seconds asking me to watch 13-minute videos aren't engaging in a balanced conversation.

I can explain each of these things in one sentence:

- simultaneous day and night
- sunsets / sunrises
- seasons
- lack of sunsets / sunrises

To be taken seriously, a flat earther should be able to give me a 1-sentence explanation for each of those too.
