Front running is one of the major problems in our industry where genuine investors ended up with paying more at the auctions as I paid $184 USD for jefferygroup.com domain name and it was offered to jefferygroup.net owner for less than 1000 USD but I was not aware of it and I went with a bidding war and won the auction.

Later I had a discussion with jefferygroup.net owner and he mentioned that 3 people contacted him for the same during the auction.
I would have been got it for 69 USD!

I was bidding on coinsociety.com auction recently (auction ended on 17th March 2019) and I own coinsociety.org
I got a mail from front runner during the 3-day private auction and it was offered to me. I have started negotiating with him without mentioning that I was bidding on that auction.

Here is the complete negotiation mail for your reference

I would imagine these sort of practices are quite common in the domain selling world..I'm not agreeing with the practice but, hard to see how you could put a stop to it.

Funny enough It reminds me of a very common selling tactic on ebay. For those of you in the know, Amazon have some terrific bargains in their 'Warehouse deals' of customer returns, opened products, Usually one-off bashed boxes etc but perfectly good at some times upto 80% discount (and you can return for free)

Well copy the product text exactly as on Amazon and place in Google and you will find everything listed at an additional 20 to 25% by ebay members - who will just go and make the purchase on the Amazon website, once they have got your payment... they even use the Amazon listing pics and description text, they can even enter your address for direct free delivery from Amazon. No mention of Amazon of course on the ebay listing.

Oh is this why I'm getting bid up on some bullsh*t Namejet auctions?
Pretty much one of many, also probably friends, or other accounts of listers who like to give love tap bids to show their auction, or name has more organic interest than it really does.

We have all been paying way to much for years, because of a few bad apples.

Management is essentially one person, and if they have a relationship with that party which they probably do being an aged, active account, you are going to hit a wall.

There are many scammers in this business. Some known, some not. If you have been doing this awhile you can connect the dots. It's all there.

Stay open minded and proceed with caution.

Best of luck to all!

Well stated, but sometimes you don't know who is on the other side of that bid, which can suck, especially if they win. Godaddy killed it somewhat a long time ago by putting all the linking info on the landing page, it wasn’t always like that. I have been pitched a few times, I have agreed to their purchase price then ignored emails after the fact. Or if it is unregistered, I go and register, then tell them I will pay them some insane amount for it, and watch them scramble.

I don’t have much confidence in NameJet management aka Jonathan aka Matt Whitaker wannabe, and look alike.

Used to see them around a lot more then these days, they used to be on pretty much everything good. Haven’t seen that name around to much lately.

But why would someone offer a domain name he has no ownership of? That seem to me like a fraud

0
•••
I don't really think front running is a scam if done the right way.

Obviously, it is wrong to represent yourself as the domain owner when that is not the case. But writing to let a potential buyer know that a domain they might want is about to become available and offering your services to secure it for them is completely ok IMO.

Not really something I would do, especially in auction settings, but maybe for drop catching a domain, as that takes some actual skill.

Corplaw and Markmon are my competitors in almost bidding wars on NameJet.
They are not bots, just people like us.
I don't think they are scammers or bots or trickers, i just think that they are "genius" and "smart enough" to increase the selling ratio before they get names with high prices by contacting Potential Buyers for their target domains.
Just my private opinion.
If you work hard enough and do domaining as a full-time job, may be your name will be appeared in almost Auctions like those guys.
But maybe, if they are scammers, @BuyBrandWeb.com has done a good job for our community.

These stupid guys spoiled another lead for me. They offered the domain name for $3K USD during the private whereas I'm seeking $35K USD. I paid for $419 USD for that domain name otherwise I would have been got it for $69 USD then spoiled lead for me.

I'm sorry, but i think that it's your fault, no theirs.
The 1st advise i learned from my mentor once diving in this industry was " Think twice before you get a domain name". You have to know what is the highest price you can pay for a domain ? and what is the lowest price you can release it ? before acquiring any name.
So, if you knew that the domain you was bidding was terrible, why did you pay much for it ? To win those " stupid" guys ?
Now, when an auction that does not have at least one of them, i'm scared about having bad names. Ha ha.

This is to update that after following up with NameJet's top level management who promised to look into this issue, never bothered to respond me even after follow ups. This shows they're not interested in fixing the front running issue.

5
•••
^ Why would they? Seriously.. think about it.

NameJet is a fraction of its old self , the dismal management by Jonathan, has led
to a record low inventory. It is in a downward spiral, same names, same bidders, keep feeding the ecosystem, who cares about NameJet it’s pretty much done.

2
•••
Six months have past, and NameJet has taken no position here other than to let fraud, and front running fester on their failing platform.

Nothing has changed. Other than private domain inventory, and tucows selling off a lot of enom inventory, not sure how much longer NameJet will even be relevant.

Customer service has continued to get worse, they don’t even answer their phone anymore.
