Just wondering what the general thoughts are about whether the recent trend to legalize marijuana will boost the prices of pot-related domains?

i see from name bio that the first 100 sales in cbd hemp and thc domains are all .com

canna related domains r almost all .com as well but a few orgs and nets

only 1 cannabinoid.com out of 2 sold

and the thc domains are almost all for healthcare

so zero gtld and ngtld sales in the first 100

conclusion: stay away from any other tld than .com and stick with cbd

you do realize only a fraction of sales are publicly known right? .com is obviously the best extension.

sure do, so what does that mean then? a ton of other gtlds r selling and we dont know it cause its not posted? come on. plus if they do sell they r for pretty lowball figures as anything with a big sale amount is posted all over the forums and domain sites to draw traffic as thats big news in this biz . you have a good point but its moot.

plus if a dot com sells for big dough its big news. so u r right but its kind of a non issue

I just think your advice was a little narrow minded. .com is the best but .ca's do sell for this niche. Maybe cory can confirm if .au.com's sell? Also cbd domains aren't the only good .com keywords as brandables do well but aren't disclosed publicly because companies are secretive about their future branding plans.

So I might as well get weedshop.cdtbtuybbgfrtyyg or weed.thc ... I don’t get what’s up with these extensions.

Which extensions are you talking about?

.com sells, .ca if theirs localized crossover.

Westleaf: classic example. .com sold for around 5grand. If my memory is correct the .ca for under around 20grand.

There comes a point where investing in all different extensions is simply too expensive.

I follow simple rules, all .coms and two word domains in Canna, Leaf, Cannabis, Hemp and CBD. Some minors in Herb, Weed and three word CBD. Regionals in non monopoly states with approved policys. Or close too it.
The whole idea is too sell, i.understand everything is taken and people want in. But again for $8 one had too buy in volume in 2014 to 2017. Thiers nothing left short of brandables. That in my opinion are very hard too sell.

The latest on cbn, and mushrooms. I'd think are akin too the inventory I put together in 2015 primarily. For those who think I was brilliant, I'm not. I passed up most everything in Canna too buy Leaf opps... Kieth sent me a note, Fall 2016. saying basically how stupid I was on Leaf. (%50 of my inventory, 800 is in leaf ) This takes time and commitment. And I'll be honest, Leaf is still a long hold. Although I think I have a decent sale in Leafjob.....coming soon. What a great job search domain.

This is a guessing game and comfort level too invest long term.

A random extension, hyphen, or three worder is very risky. One would be smarter attempting too hustle a domain out of a guy like me for a few hundred bucks ( that I tend to reject) ..

I'm no pro, but I studied the greats. Rick Schwartz is one of my examples I used in 2014 thru 2017 where I amassed my inventories. That folks is still for 97% for sale, in yep two word .coms. I don't sell under a grand either.

I'm no pro. Infact pretty amature. But I do have the inventory. Your not in the game without two word .coms. Hard enough too sell even with the right stuff.

Unless one has localized knowledge in the sector aka; Corey.

Not here too rain on anyone's parade, If weren't sitting on a ton of these domains I'd say, hey they markets there for more than two word .coms. But fact is it's not, short of Cbd. And a lark here and there. Generally a odd extension costs endusers .99 cents on GD.

Their are so many extensions.. I feel like people here would rather have cbdshop.gy or .io or .one ........ over cbdshops.com

Com typically works best in any niche, unless specific cctld's are needed for their respective country. However, in some niche markets, for strong, relevant names, other major extensions sometimes work fine. Respective to the mj related markets, Org works great, and eventually Net may have it's day, imo.

It's not to say other extensions won't eventually do well, or even now. As always, it depends upon the quality of the name. Keep names strong, relevant, and making sense, especially if diverting from Com. The more one uses irrelevant, unnecessary, or random dictionary words, the more significantly the name value drops, and therefore the likelihood of a sale decreases, even with Com, but more so, with alternates, imo.

...gl to all in this niche. Make a mint!!

well if google just regged driverless.app than if its good enough for them why not domainers? i know they own .app but that also says they believe in gtld /ntlds other than .com. so for cannabis related domains id go for it and reg other tlds too

The fact they did that is not relevant. We do not know their intentions for securing that do we? I don’t know but dont all non .com extensions lose value over time, because although it might work fine now inevitably down the road it will not be viable to have a business around something so weak.

The scaling of this industry will happen in the next 3 years extending into 2025. Two years after the ballot initiatives. Thier will be tens of thousands of startups. New states will come on board, New York, New Jersey. All current legislation and Cannabis boards will hand out permitts like candy at Halloween.

The monopoly type states will open thier models for more startups.

The notion that small startups will still happen under federal legalization is unlikely. Big business will move in, pharma and multi nationals.

I'd think the next 5 years all of our inventories will be sold. Rockstar domains, sure a small fortune. But all of this is peanuts compared too the amount of money that will be invested in marketing on all levels, large and small.

Do I believe after 5 years this Cannabis domain niche will have tread left. Doubtful. Thier is only so much inventory that's decent. And brandables will move front and center once national approvals come into play.

Avma approves cbd for pet care, thier are the domain sales. That's how I think. You can get all the domains one wants, you needs the market.

I've been following this niche since it started. Canna Brands was the first, then the B Marley brand, Leafly 2012? and such. I remember googling cbd on my BlackBerry Edge. My first Galaxy phone I had the Leafly app. First Cannabis domain ever purchased in 2012.

It's all about branding. Before ummm I forget exactly, weed was sold by variety or Jamaican etc.. Branding was done by your dealer. Even California was more varietal branding, and the dispensary was a generic place. People lined up anyways. They still do in monopoly states.

But! The next 5 years. Hold on, it's going to make us alot of money. You have a pile of 2 word. Coms, decent stuff. Your in the zone.

I don't think like a domainer, I follow marketing and startups, and trends in this niche. You have a new business you need a great domain.
domain. Or a boatload of cash for a brandable.

All these extension domains and tlds..I don't think pertain to this niche. I'm no pro though. This isn't looking 10 years ahead, more like 3 tops 5.

I plan on selling everything in the next 3 years actually. I'm not a pro, and my main day job is in environmental controls for the Cannabis and Leafy greens industry.

I guess your right. I thought I said an objective truth that most non (.com) extensions lose value over time, are expensive to market effectively, and cost more to maintain ranking in search results, and don't work as good universally than a (.com) would. Isn't that all accurate?

Also they could have gotten driverless.app or whatever it was just so no one else does.

not sure about losing value its just that .coms get more expensive so u cant really say a non .com gets cheaper its just .coms get pricier compared to them. make sense|? thats how i rationalize buying non .coms. i have to buy something if the coms r gone which is the majority of all cases i find when i try to hand reg

loving the cannabis domain thread. I've got a couple:
cannabistesting.co.nz
cannabispharmacy.co.nz
cannabislounge.co.nz
cannabismarket.co.nz
