I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

mirror.ca

This one is $3000 USD and I have been mulling it for quite some time.
Have not bought it because I traditionally do not deal in USD for .ca's over 1k

https://uniregistry.com/market/domain/mirror.ca

Nonetheless, it's a fantastic keyword and I think there is money to be made on this one in the right portfolio.

Now we cross our fingers that RUF.CA is not an error listing or a scammer joking around.

Let’s hope not. Worst comes to worst, I will get my money back from Sedo as I paid through PayPal.

I'd almost count on it at this point (been there, done that) as anyone who owns RUF.CA wouldn't list it at $90 on purpose, and anyone who would list RUF.CA for $90 on purpose doesn't own it.

Best you can hope for is a nice guy who eats his error, though Sedo is nice to sellers who make a mistake, especially newer ones.

Is it easy to get scammed on Sedo? They would have had to at least own the domain at one point right?

No not in the traditional sense, but there are a TON of listings that are openly for sale elsewhere but aren't owned by the people who list them, and instead these scammers just take "offers" and then if they get a juicy one, try to buy the domain from the rightful owner.

I have personally had my entire portfolio (all certified by Sedo code) stolen overnight on Sedo by multiple sellers who seemingly only need to input the domain and it's automatically theirs.

These guys literally list anything and everything that isn't theirs (thereby making Sedo think they're big wheels that the rules don't apply to) and it's a really dodgy system they're running.

Yea . I still get Sedo emailing me for domains I haven’t owned for years and still with the lowball offers lol

There was a link here on NP or some other site where this guy found like 3 or 4 insanely low LLL.com”s years ago .He ended buying them for like 300 each? And they had to sell them to him. LoL . I think it was on buydomains site

I think it's a legitimate listing, it still resolves to sedo.

I was going to buy it myself but between my son and I we are ever faster approaching the 1,500 domains mark.

Maybe, but a lot of people don't change the nameservers after they buy - I know guys who are still getting parking revenue on high-traffic domains they sold years ago.

That could be a liability on the recipient of the funds if discovered right?

Does anyone understand why this happens? I sold a domain early January and it still to today has the DNS settings it left me with (pointing to Undeveloped where it now says sold). If you invest even $$$, let alone the big amounts, in a domain name, why would you not take 45 seconds to change the DNS?

No idea, but I'm guessing they just forgot to do it after the purchase, and then quickly got caught up in something new.

You really need to stay ontop of this, as I bought a pile of expired domains off GoDaddy, got a bit lazy and left them for a bit, and then discovered one was forwarded to a porn advertiser and some others were showing unwanted/1-click scam ads. Yeesh.

Now the first thing I do after buying a domain is to reset the nameservers to default, then redirect as needed.

60+ LLL.ca's this week and counting.

I thought we might have a chance of beating 84, but the numbers have really slowed down over the last few days.

I once had a domain parked with Sedo which ultimately sold on Godaddy.

The buyer didn't change the DNS so I could still see the traffic from my listing on Sedo until I finally deleted it.

We're now 7 months later and it looks like the buyer still hasn't changed the DNS because the domain still has a Sedo parking page, but isn't listed for sale on the Sedo marketplace....

I wonder what would have happened had I kept it listed on Sedo and sold it a second time. Sedo obviously couldn't get me to complete the transfer since i don't have control over the domain anymore, so I wouldn't expect them to pay me either. If anything, I would expect the transaction to be cancelled and then ban or suspend my account, unless I could convince them it was an oversight or innocent mistake.

So I'm still surprised anyone could get scammed on Sedo... given the initial verification process required to list a domain, and because I can't imagine them forcing someone to pay for a domain that cannot be transferred to the buyer... Am I misunderstanding something here?

It's not scamming in the traditional sense, more like inventory theft.

Their verification process means squat, and if a big-wig scam-seller with thousands of listings manually adds a pile of your domains to their account, you WILL lose them, guaranteed. I have had this happen 3 times, and twice to the same seller.

These scammers have 10's of thousands of listings (often not theirs either) and Sedo will automatically give them the benefit of the doubt (they look like a big client and you look small) and without verification, transfer your listings over to them, whereby you will have a helluva time getting them back, and likely will have to redo the verification for each and every domain.

Rinse and repeat each time a major scammer tries to steal your Sedo inventory.

When it comes to money changing hands, I have never had a problem with any transaction, but Sedo is extremely (and I mean extremely) dodgy when it comes to site verification. I take the time to verify a few hundred domains, and then a scammer comes along with 10,000 domains and can unilaterally steal my inventory just by adding them to his account.

It's insane.

I didn't know Sedo made dodgy exceptions like that... but I still don't understand how I could lose a domain (or be forced to hand it over) just because someone else fraudulently listed it.

I barely remember how it works with Sedo, but wouldn't they have to ask the "scammer" to complete certain steps to authorize the transfer, and they wouldn't be able to because I'm in control of the domain? Or is the transfer automatic if your domain is registered with one of Sedo's MLS partners?

I could understand if the transfer was automatic and happened without you even knowing, but almost none of my domains are eligible for MLS listings since the large majority are registered with Godaddy.

Unless you respond to a transfer email without reading it, that scenario cannot ever happen anywhere, and the potential scams at Sedo are more sublime.

You still have to confirm any domain transfer, even if most of the process is automatic, like if you're selling a .COM through GD.That's a requirement of a ICANN transfer, and the only danger is if you lose access to that email.

Never said there wasn't, and those were just 2 examples.

My point was that no domainer or web developer is going pony up almost $2K for redline.ca (as then you would be fighting the cost of a UDRP vs resale purchase), and it had to be businesses fighting it out.

I am the owner of the domain Redline.md
At Sedo I was offered for the Redline.md domain, I gave a waiver and after that the Redline.ca domain was purchased (7 days later).
I conclude that they have some kind of project to this name and the maximum amount to buy is $ 1800.
Although the idea is hidden.
Redline - Domains in the category “Medicine and Health”
dr. Redline MD - Doctor (several people)
MD - Maryland

So Redline.ca was sold? Was it recent, as it still seems to be listed on Bonfire.

The .CA has not been sold. ZIRA77 seems to be speculating that the offer on their .MD was somehow related to the purchase of the .CA (presumably referring to when it was recently in TBR auction). However, there was definitely no connection between those two events.

Maybe the .MD as in Maryland makes sense, but I don't think the common definitions for the term redline lend themselves too well to medical field, so I personally would doubt it would have been a doctor related inquiry, unless the doctor's surname was Redline (apparently it is a rather uncommon surname too).
