discuss Unstoppable Blockchain .Zil Domains

On a crypto YouTube channel I came across discussion of blockchain domains using the the .zil extension. The idea is that the domain serves as a surrogate for a normal crypto wallet address. There seem to be a number of YouTube videos regarding UnstoppableDomains' upcoming release.

Bradley Kam seems to be the founder of Unstoppable Domains.

Auctions are May 31st. The idea of a shortener for a wallet address seems neat but how much are people going to pay for a wallet address? If the technology is there to support the concept, the idea could take off - worth having perhaps one to a few for one's personal wallet address.

The argument seems to be the domain asset is in the blockchain and not subject to an outside party being able to interfere with its usage (not sure how valid that claim would work in practice i..e trademark).

One of the great challenges with Blockchain domains is making them work practically. We are still in this awkward adolescent stage where most browsers don't recognize them. This will likely evolve in the coming years, particularly as new browser initiatives come online that embrace Blockchain and make it mainstream.

In the meantime, Epik did release 2 technologies that make it easy to use Blockchain domains. They resolve as fast as standard DNS when using the Anonymize VPN or DNS resolver. Both are free:

Anonymize VPN: https://anonymize.com/vpn/

Anonymize DNS resolver: https://anonymize.com/secure-dns/

It is also possible to set up custom Alt-TLDs. For example, at Epik.com you can buy .IPFS, .TRUTH and .OZ as a non-ICANN TLDs. These registries are sold exclusively and can then be used or sold through API or through an Epik-powered control panel that can be private labeled.

This is all operational, by the way.

Bradley Jam made a presentation in which he states that with this extension the domain name is not part of the traditional DNS system. His statement was that, "once a domain asset is under your control it cannot be taken away from you..." .No censorship from registrars or UDRP filings. He also references . ETH which perhaps has some similar characteristics.

Another feature is that one can assign dozens of cryptocurrency addresses even from different cryptocurrencies to one domain.

I am seeing more recently-released YouTube videos mentioning Unstoppable Domains' extension .ZIL . The ability to use shorter and more memorable keywords rather than long confusing public keys could help facilitate crypto adoption. While I do not see end users paying much for a wallet address shortener, there is a use case for those interested in the blockchain space. While the auction for shorter keywords is May 31st, for keywords not reserved or taken and over ten characters, one can pre-register .ZIL domains now. I picked up three domains and may register a few more when the shorter than eleven-character keywords become available in about six weeks.

Can you share the link to some of those Youtube videos?

I read elsewhere that for a limited time, Unstoppable Domains is giving away free .zil domains on their Twitter page!

Note they recently announced the elimination of renewal fees so once you pre-order an available name or acquire a premium name, you own it without having to pay yearly renewals....

I registered JetCash.zil ( Jet Cash is the name I use in the crypto world), and I gather it will go live tomorrow.

So far it looks as if the only use I can make of it is to create a Bitcoin wallet with their service, and use this to receive payments.I run a full Bitcoin node, and I manage my own Bitcoin addresses. I don't use any exchange or wallet holding services, with the exception of a small trading account on Coinbase. I don't feel comfortable with leaving any significant deposits in wallets where I don't have control of the private keys.

Once I have the use of the unstoppable domain, I'll try to work out the ways that I will be able to use it

There were some delays but now .ZIL domain registrants can assign crypto wallet addresses of ~35 characters to their shorter domains.
