Do you invest in the stock market or any other traditional investments or do you stick to domains

What do you like to invest in

etfs, hemp stocks, high dividends?

Do you have shares of a registrar like GoDaddy?

(p.s. if you want a free stock you can sign up for Robinhood, a commission free investing app where I do my investing, using this referral link and we both get a free stock. Win-Win! If you don't want the free stock just search for the app elsewhere)

No in the stock market for me.

Waste management - they are on the stock ticker today, but I bought my shares directly through the company.

Acreages of land

Cattle but on a very small scale, sell one or two calf’s a year, I sell 10 or 15 Pygmy goats per year.

I don’t like investing in things that I can only see numbers and not have direct access to the product or service. People had to twist my arms to get me to invest in the company waste managment, although ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ has been a good investment i still worry about it.

Yes I have been investing in stocks but I have a very lazy (and risky) strategy. NO STOP LOSS.

I purchased 4 good companies stocks when I was almost drunk to the point of blackout.

Haven't touched them since last 4 years. Made 350% profit on them as of now. But I purchased them to hold them for 10 years minimum no matter what the market does.

On other hand I try to invest into real estate and generate rental incomes. Currently managing some properties has been becoming like a 2nd job for me. But I have found some good brokers and maintenance guys in past few years so it is going good. Strategy here is to just rent it out to a person who fits my stringent rules of profile, if I find even slightest doubt about a new tenant then the house remains vacated for entire month. But this gives me less dramas and peace of mind.

Lastly I have been trying my luck into horse breeding. :xf.rolleyes: Its been just losses till now but I am waiting for one good break and it will even out my 100 losses.

Crypto, Domains, Agricultural land etc are other hobbies that I chase whenever I get proper opportunity, time and energy.

Yes and personally I feel that compared to domains there is some performance based on which one can view and invest in a company. You get dividends in good companies and if you invest wisely a good stock can give you good dividends + good returns long term.

With domains I think its like playing with a slot machine in a casino. You keep putting money in a slot (like in domains you keep renewing) machine with a hope of getting a jackpot. But you soon realise a lot of money has been spent so you exit.. next thing you know is the next player just won a jackpot :sneaky: . Like in domains sometimes you see you had a domain for 10 or 20 years and once you dropped some major company just picked it up!

With domains according to me - its quite difficult to sell unless you are well connected because I have been buying good domains (I think they may not be great but atleast they are not bad). Not even $$ or $$$ offers - which is like wholesale rates for say domains aged 10-20 years. So at the end of the day for me it has been a loss making proposition and had i put this money in say bank or stocks I would have got much higher returns than what I am getting now. Right now its just adding renewal costs each year with hardly any sales matching renewal costs so at the end of the year you are simply losing money.

So with all said - I feel stocks are much better than domains!

In retirement our income stream is almost exclusively from investments saved during working years, so yes, for sure invested in conventional investments. Now I have mainly in ETFs (mix of broad sector ones covering Canada, US, developed world, emerging world, mixed bonds) and a fairly low MER balanced mutual fund, but have a number of other instruments too.

At one point I had many more individual stocks than I have now, still have a handle of dividend paying stable companies. I did have holdings in high dividend, but dropped them a couple of years ago. I have some exposure in REITs to provide additional diversification. As get older and drawing revenue portfolio is more conservative than in past. It is nice that online discount brokerages and ETFs offer such low cost instruments now.

I have nothing invested in crypto currencies or in commodities.

Thanks for interesting thread.

Was a "day trader" lots of years ago..couldn't really handle the emotional up and downs..panicked when the prices drop, then next hour/day happy they were rising.. became a emotional wreck.

Today, have a few of the big boys in the Cannabis niche and few Canadian banks.
All long term and only check them around tax season.

My suggestion is to think "divendends"..
