Climate science is not settled on the issue, is it, not enough evidence yet, agree?

um, co2 converts to oxygen through plants, the more co2 = more o2 for humans animals and plants. ps nasa released a few months back that there is 50% more green spaces today then when they started satellite mapping the planet

say no more

Guize climate always changes duhh I looked back through earth's history and saw that it was a lot warmer at points, so we should be all good with 8 billions humans on the planet in a rapidly accelerating change of climate, warming the earth. It really does not matter :xf.smile::xf.smile::xf.smile:
Don't you know that the sea level has been tens of metres higher during warm periods of the past, enough to submerge most of the major cities around the world!!!!
If there is a trend towards that, we should really let it go because you know, it has ALREADY been like that BEFORE :smuggrin::smuggrin:

Once Yellowstone blankets the world with volcanic ash, the paltry effect humans -might- have contributed wont matter as we will all be dead anyway.

And of course, there is also the volcanic activity underneath the ice..... if that blows, Colorado will have some nice beachfront property.

There are a thousand more likely demises for our world to experience, some of them, such as Iran or North Korea sparking a nuclear holocaust are much more immediate and demanding of attention than climate change.

Besides, is China does not adhere to stringent climate change policies - which they won't, because they want to dominate the world economically and being environmentally conscious takes a lot of money - then what the USA does won't amount to a hill of beans.

Yeah, ALL of it is being taken back by plants and other carbon sinks, that is why accumulation just keeps rising in the atmosphere year after year! Cool!

Guize, NASA says parts of earth have been getting greener, so everything's fine and dandy! NASA also says climate change is a problem, but hey, I pick and choose to suit my bullshit

Every year, about half of the 10 billion tons of carbon emitted into the atmosphere from human activities remains temporarily stored, in about equal parts, in the oceans and plants. “While our study did not address the connection between greening and carbon storage in plants, other studies have reported an increasing carbon sink on land since the 1980s, which is entirely consistent with the idea of a greening Earth,” said co-author Shilong Piao of the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences at Peking University.

While rising carbon dioxide concentrations in the air can be beneficial for plants, it is also the chief culprit of climate change. The gas, which traps heat in Earth’s atmosphere, has been increasing since the industrial age due to the burning of oil, gas, coal and wood for energy and is continuing to reach concentrations not seen in at least 500,000 years. The impacts of climate change include global warming, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and sea ice as well as more severe weather events.

The beneficial impacts of carbon dioxide on plants may also be limited, said co-author Dr. Philippe Ciais, associate director of the Laboratory of Climate and Environmental Sciences, Gif-suv-Yvette, France. “Studies have shown that plants acclimatize, or adjust, to rising carbon dioxide concentration and the fertilization effect diminishes over time.”

Exactly, and as we're in late-stage capitalism then we all need to understand that this is all going to happen, and all those people riding their bikes and driving their hybrids are using a teaspoon to bail out a million Titanics.

The uber rich, should know the potential future more than us little folk are already preparing and own secret underground doomsday complexes or islands or other safe havens that are armed and ready to go - plus they have helicopters close by in the event of a war or natural disaster or human uprising.

https://www.cnn.com/style/article/doomsday-luxury-bunkers/index.html

Many of the world's elite, including hedge fund managers, sports stars and tech executives (Bill Gates is rumored to have bunkers at all his properties) have chosen to design their own secret shelters to house their families and staff.

Gary Lynch, general manager of Texas-based Rising S Company, says 2016 sales for their custom high-end underground bunkers grew 700% compared to 2015, while overall sales have grown 300% since the November US presidential election alone.

BY THE WAY....How

Are you unfamiliar with China's limit on 2 children per couple/woman? China understands the country cannot sustain rampant population growth so it controls it.

The more educated the population, the clearer the threat of unchecked population growth is, the lower the birthrate is - this is a proven stat and it's actually getting scary at the top of the pyramid, whereby married pairs of PhDs have almost a zero birth rate.

All Western countries (due to education and news currency) are below 2.0 children per (naturally, France and Ireland are at the top at 1.98), but there is a massive problem in Africa and the Middle East, with 6-8 children per woman being commonplace. This is the powder keg.

One of the biggest previous offenders, India, has responded to the global problem and now has a birth rate of 2.3 (again, education rates there continue to rise), and while still above the norm in some countries, most of South America has also cooled off, as more people understand the risks and costs of unchecked population growth.

The problem is that corporate-sponsored Europe and America is very disappointed at the lower birth rates (some have openly admitted such), as these entities need to continually increase revenues and satisfy shareholder expectations, so many now see the burgeoning populations in Africa and the Middle East as a feeder lane to higher stock prices, so (through influence peddling and contributions) they have sped up immigration to record levels.

This "corporate siphoning off from overpopulated areas" actually makes things worse, and the world remains stuck on the same road to oblivion, this time in the fast lane.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/permafrost-melting-1.5119767
Wildfires, becoming larger and hotter every year over the Canadian boreal forest, are also causing rapid permafrost thaw.

Nearly one-fifth of Arctic permafrost is now vulnerable to rapid warming, Turetsky's paper suggests. Plenty of it is in Canada, such as in the lowlands south of Hudson Bay.

Soil analysis found those quickly thawing areas also contain the most carbon. Nearly 80 per cent of them hold at least 70 kilograms of carbon per cubic metre.

That suggests permafrost is likely to release up to 50 per cent more greenhouse gases than climate scientists have believed. As well, much of it will be released as methane, which is about 30 times more potent as a heat-trapping gas than carbon dioxide.

Two of the best to read about this topic are these:
https://twitter.com/BigJoeBastardi
https://twitter.com/RyanMaue

Here is my question: IF, just IF we could "change the climate" back to whatever is "normal" (and really, is there a "normal"? when the Earth has been here for 4.5+ billion years and the weather forecasts adjust the "normal" high and low temp for the day each 30 or so years).

So lets just say these people who want to tax the crap out of everyone CAN change the climate of a planetary body such as Earth. I guess they figure all of that money will develop some sort of thermostat, like we have in our homes and apartments - and we'll just adjust the planetary climate to this "normal". ASSuming that we can all agree on what is "normal" and ASSuming that we all agree that it should be done, here is the big question: What if these people go too far???? What if their little plan to adjust our giant marble home's climate to "normal" fails and they screw up the climate -- in the OTHER direction? What then? Tax us some more and collect trillions of dollars across the planet (ASSuming no one has died from their mistake) so that they can come up with a fix for the failed fix?

What I say is, the climate has been changing since the birth of this planet. Its gone dead a couple of times - became a giant snowball.. All life was basically killed off. Whatever was surviving was deep in the frozen over oceans. It gets slammed by an asteroid and wakes up again. Life re-emerges.

Here is another issue to consider: THE SUN. Our Sun controls a large part of this planet's climate. The Sun is aging. It is said that the Sun is going to expand as it ages. It may get as large as the orbit of our own planet. Thats about 8 billion years from now. So what will all these trillions in carbon-tax money do to "fix" that problem? Nothing.

At some point humans have to either adapt or die. I believe we have the intelligence to adapt but "fix" something that is out of our hands - on many fronts - insane. And if we all get killed off then I know one thing is very likely to happen - life will always find a way back, on this planet. It always has, it always will.

"The Arctic is at the forefront of opportunity and abundance," Pompeo said at a meeting of the Arctic Council in Finland, according to reports. "It houses 13 percent of the world's undiscovered oil, 30 percent of its undiscovered gas, an abundance of uranium, rare earth minerals, gold, diamonds, and millions of square miles of untapped resources, fisheries galore."

I DON'T THINK ANYONE THINKS YOU CAN CONTROL IT TO A CERTAIN LEVEL LIKE A THERMOSTAT.... THEY JUST KNOW IT IS QUCKLY GETTING WORSE....
THEY AREN'T SAYING ACTIVELY "TURN DOWN THERMOSTAT" TO A LEVEL BUT STOP ACTIONs THAT IS CAUSING CHANGES IN THE CLIMATE, RAISING AVERAGE GLOBAL TEMP....

Out of humans hands when they CAUSED it with their hands. Their emissions. Stop the emissions and get emissions out of the air, but it won't happen....

Absolutely zero proof. And if you can prove it then get on the news and show your findings because for the past whatever years (since the big switch when I was in primary school when they cried "global cooling" and how we were all going to DIE by the year 2000 due to the Earth freezing and how we wont be able to grow food - not even in greenhouses, etc etc) no one can prove squat. Not even the scientists that were caught fudging numbers to prove some hack politicians fake theories.

This is nothing more than a politically charged topic. At some point "they" realized the Earth wasnt going to freeze but instead the Earth was actually [normally] warming up. We are exiting an ice-age in fact...

I dont believe one word these politicians spew. None of it. They're all out for themselves and their own retirement funds.

I am not telling anyone to believe what I believe, I am merely telling you what I believe. Its as valid as the next person's OPINION about what is going on.

If anyone wants to discuss POLLUTION - then yes, we've polluted this wonderful planet, horrendously. We can and should correct that. The climate will do what it wants to do regardless if we are here tomorrow or not.

The heat-trapping nature of carbon dioxide and other gases was demonstrated in the mid-19th century. Their ability to affect the transfer of infrared energy through the atmosphere is the scientific basis of many instruments flown by NASA. There is no question that increased levels of greenhouse gases must cause the Earth to warm in response.

Ice cores drawn from Greenland, Antarctica, and tropical mountain glaciers show that the Earth’s climate responds to changes in greenhouse gas levels. Ancient evidence can also be found in tree rings, ocean sediments, coral reefs, and layers of sedimentary rocks. This ancient, or paleoclimate, evidence reveals that current warming is occurring roughly ten times faster than the average rate of ice-age-recovery warming.

The planet's average surface temperature has risen about 1.62 degrees Fahrenheit (0.9 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century, a change driven largely by increased carbon dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere. Most of the warming occurred in the past 35 years, with the five warmest years on record taking place since 2010. Not only was 2016 the warmest year on record, but eight of the 12 months that make up the year — from January through September, with the exception of June — were the warmest on record for those respective months.

The oceans have absorbed much of this increased heat, with the top 700 meters (about 2,300 feet) of ocean showing warming of more than 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit since 1969.

Both the extent and thickness of Arctic sea ice has declined rapidly over the last several decades.

The number of record high temperature events in the United States has been increasing, while the number of record low temperature events has been decreasing, since 1950. The U.S. has also witnessed increasing numbers of intense rainfall events.

Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the acidity of surface ocean waters has increased by about 30 percent. This increase is the result of humans emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and hence more being absorbed into the oceans. The amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by the upper layer of the oceans is increasing by about 2 billion tons per year.

If the efforts to negotiate an international solution that includes China and India do not succeed, we still have an obligation to act.

In my approach to global climate-control efforts, we will apply the principle of equal treatment. We will apply the same environmental standards to industries in China, India, and elsewhere that we apply to our own industries. And if industrializing countries seek an economic advantage by evading those standards, I would work with the European Union and other like-minded governments that plan to address the global warming problem to develop effective diplomacy, effect a transfer of technology, or other means to engage those countries that decline to enact a similar cap.
