i like 123cannabis.ca tho!

Thanks.

The word "cannabis" has definitely become more popular than "marijuana", which is why i will probably let marijuana drop... but I see that 123seeds .com and 123thc .com have been developed, whereas 123cannabis .com and 123marijuana .com have not (even tho the latter 2 have been registered for longer).

Something like GetTHC.ca would be a lot better and still available as of this post.

123 is ok if you cannot get shorter but I would give preference to a short keyword like go, get, or similar.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I wanted to ask if you guys are familiar with Godaddy's "whoiscounts" that you can retrieve when exporting a list of your domains registered with Godaddy? It's supposed to tell how many times someone did a whois search on your domains, but only counts whois searches done through Godaddy's whois tool.

I learned of this a while back when trying to export a list of all my domains... but i almost forgot about it.

Apparently this is a good way (or at least one way) to gauge whether you ought to renew or not. I would like to know your thoughts, or at least share in case some of you weren't already familiar.

This article covers the subject quite well: https://domainnamewire.com/2018/01/11/tracking-whois-searches-decide-domain-renewals/

ps: the whoiscounts from godaddy does not include .ca domains.

Well duh, one is associated with zoned-out druggies like Cheech and Chong while the other is a purely medicinal marvel of modern science. LOL

Seriously, poll North Americans and I bet a good percentage don't know they're the same thing.

The .CA To Be Released / TBR Weekly Picks for May 22 are online:

One area that is getting scary is the mass dumping of low-end LLL domains, and it’s gone from 50 to 72 the last 2 weeks, and we’re now up to an unprecedented 84 this week. Unfortunately, the numbers keep growing, but not one of this week’s LLLs is a premium or even close. It’s also not a great time for single-word domains either, but we managed to find a few that (barely) qualified for our Top Picks, headed by...

I didn't quite look at it that way before but I think you're right. Cannabis is classier... and the change probably has to do with re-branding due to stigma. The same happens with other drugs but those remain illegal so not entirely the same thing.

Oh the medical community smells money and is definitely trying to make pot more respectable - it's very similar to the "whore - prostitute - escort - companion" transition over the years. It's still polishing a turd and looks silly to anyone with a brain.

The most troubling aspect is the recent campaign to make marijuana a "racist term" that "doesn't properly take into consideration its Mexican roots". Next up, "pot" being intolerant towards cooks and a moratorium on naming girls Mary Jane.

@DomainRecap
Interesting. This has also got me thinking of Coca-Cola/Coke and the history behind that company. I guess they aren't too worried about stigma... but that makes sense given the strength of their brand (established 133 years ago).

It actually has had a drastic effect, as "Coca-Cola" has transformed into the brand, while earlier it was Coke-this and Coke-that and Coke-everything. I can remember Coke cans that didn't even have Coca-Cola on them, and now it's the prime brand name.

True. Coca-Cola is definitely more common now (and most likely for that reason) but most people still know what coca means and they still use "Coke" to some extent, like with Diet Coke. Maybe they just try to avoid referring to themselves simply as "coke", and only use the word when it's convenient (e.g. Diet Coke sounds better than Diet Coca-Cola, and is easier to fit on a can).

Exactly, but years from now I can even foresee a day when Diet Coca-Cola will suddenly appear on the can.

Ooops.

When I was a kid, "Coca-Cola" was viewed as old school and something you'd find in antique shops, but now the trend has reversed itself.

So not much of a conversation on this week's TBR list - I know it sucks hard, but at least laugh at the 84 crappy LLLs that dropped.

Only 78 domains selected this week, with Sibername and MyID getting back into the action in a big way.

Top 5:

gex.ca
rideauheritageroute.ca
hardcopy.ca
advisors.ca
startabusiness.ca

Top 10 Selections by Registrar: MyID (5), Sibername (2), FastWebServer (1), POOL (1), and our creepy little friend 2537244 ONTARIO INC.(1). But Sibername had the Top 2 selections and FastWebServer was 3rd.

Out of 84 available LLL domains, only 2 were selected, GEX.ca (1) and SYH.ca (35).

Our creepy little friend 2537244 ONTARIO INC. selected:

equalseatsforwomen.ca
pskensington.ca
financialliteracyinfo.ca
councilecd.ca

And in auction news, PST.CA was sitting there doing nothing for a week, and it just exploded from $200 to $750 in very short order.

Our creepy little friend 2537244 ONTARIO INC. selected:

Creepy? Unusual - yes. Weird - maybe. Smart - possibly. Creepy - not really fitting or appropriate.

It was extremely creepy when I asked CIRA who this was.

But next time, just for you, I'll use "weird, strange and unusual little friend".

And by the by, I get the feeling this is the CIRA grabbing TBR names for various government and political sources. Most of them follow the same basic GEO, education, cultural, or public interest trend.

I guess people want to stay away from the druggie type slang brand and get a more professional name so they could look more legit I guess?

Yeah, I was partially joking. Still..
