Yes, but we still lots of them available on hand reg. But I see a lot of businesses using them.

Is DomainKing the best registrar in terms of service/prices etc? I can see .ng becoming more popular and also maybe a .lagos in the future

I use Upperlink because it's a local provider.

Well I don't have a personal experience with them, but am sure of garanntor.ng (excellent service and customer care), also smartweb.ng
