I am looking to build a 3 or 4 page Wordpess website for each of my domains. It will be monetized with affiliate links and adsense. Hopefully after a few months these sites might get some traction and then I may have a better chance of selling them. I will add up to date curated content, images and videos relevant to the domain.

Do you think this is a good idea? Or, is there a better way?

Thanks

so as I am retired and have plenty of time.
I think sometimes on NPs we do not fully appreciate that the right decision depends on personal circumstances. For those of us who are retired something that requires more time than money may be feasible in a way it would not be to others, providing that we find it interesting and something we want to do. Very best wishes for your plans @papeter and thanks for taking us along on this journey you are starting!

I should have been sharing more in this forum, developing domains to mini sites do work. However, I would avoid putting ads until your post reaches above 50 articles and you need your sites properly hosted with SSL.

I monetized my sites through Viglink and did not bother with Adsense.

Thanks for starting this thread, Peter. An important and interesting topic.

I noticed that @Rick Schwartz latest blog post on the general topic of advice to domain investors actually says several things relevant to this. He strongly supports the idea of multiple revenue stream and pushes the idea of first setting up a mini monetized site, before you try to sell the name, in order to as it were test the waters. If your site is popular, it places you in a stronger position when you do try to sell the domain name. Also, from seeing what ads a service like Adsense place on it will give you ideas of possible end users that you might have overlooked. It does make sense to me, even in a market where it is much harder to monetize sites. Here is link...

How would you get adsense on it? Google, as far as I know, does not approve mini-sites with proper content.

@Recons.Com raises a good point. I forgot that for the past little while Adsense approve all sites and it is quite possible that a mini-site would not meet their standards. One might well need to either sell ads directly (not easy, although more lucrative if you can manage it). Thanks for pointing this out, and does anyone know the minimum to get approved by Adsense now? The sites I have Adsense on have been in operation for years so were not subject to the new rules (and are much more than minisites).

In any case the following advice to first get a substantial amount of content and then seek ads is correct if you have the flexibility to do that.
However, I would avoid putting ads until your post reaches above 50 articles and you need your sites properly hosted with SSL.
