Is this possible? I mean, a domain expires, but it can be renewed for 30 days, and in that period people place bids, and whoever wins renews the domain, and gets the domain. Is there a such marketplace? Can I check if people are bidding on my domains?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I will not acquire an expired domain even for free. There are exceptions of course, but for weaker names, definitely not.

This is what ICANN has to say about transfer of expired domains:

Answer to Question 8.

You have the right to transfer an expired domain. Registrars are not allowed to deny a transfer due to expiration or nonrenewal, (unless you haven't paid for a previous registration period).

My comment.

Some registrars, especially the greedy ones with uncompetitive renewal prices, may try to deny you this right even during the grace period. They may not provide you with auth code or hide options where you can unlock your domain in preparation for outward transfer. Let them know, without mincing words, that they are violating ICANN guidelines. I had the experience with Namecheap but things were resolved amicably.

GoDaddy Auctions. Yes if the domains are GoDaddy registered, or the registrar is partnered with GoDaddy. Many registrars are partnered with GoDaddy for selling their expired domain portfolio.

No as it is a contract. If you lose the domain you cannot meet your end of deal however godaddy offer it as a feature if you let domain lapse and type it in it an offer is up to renew or auction.
