I can see a number of these getting picked up - there a few others I'm surprised they accepted the high reserve and can't see selling because of it. What do you think?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I have had Hab (ca) for years. What do you think of this LLL?
Only you know the inquiries, and conversations, given it has been years, and nothing substantial has come from it probably says a lot, but it is not one to drop, so you must continue to pay renewal.

a np's auction with a moderate minimum. announced here in this thread several days ahead of time might be a good solution for hab. np's own version of cira's tbr. very straightforward and things would probably run a lot smoother. none of this 19:00:00 nonsense.

Yea. I brought it up just to see if anyone had any opinions, not because of trying to sell. I have been thinking of an idea for it but haven't yet come to a conclusion. Thanks guys .

Perhaps you've done this long ago, but have you ran a NUANS search for the word HAB yet (to find potential buyers)...in the event you do want to sell it one day?

I just checked and it came up with 27 results:

Hab is perhaps best suited to Montreal Canadiens related use, of course, although there is a company Hab Press that might regard it as an upgrade. Also an ETF from Horizons by that name, as well as other acronym use but don't see most as wanting a domain name. Best of luck with it.

Just picked up this gem:

Wow! That seems outstanding! Congrats.

5G would be outstanding

5-G is just ok at best

I don't want to discourage the member but we gave to call things accurately.

Thanks Bob and everyone. LOL I did have a hockey blog at one time before until I got tired of Gator restricting me due to the volume of people accessing the site. They said I required a static account but just lost interest after some time. Someone mentioned heath and beauty long ago so possibly it's time to try that. :xf.love:

Now that is actually a term often used in retail

HAB - Health and Beauty

I remember that from my old retail days.

I cannot see how the domain would be properly monetize as a hockey site but health and beauty opens up a whole new world (y)

Thx for the input on 5-G.ca

It was all that was left for short 5g domains of course so I decided why not

Actually if you search google for 5g & 5-g they both come up as #1 in the prompt if that means anything

Also alot of hyphen domains do sell for a good value, not sure for.ca , tho but I think Im just going to make a site relating to 5g

I was surprised it was still available so for $12usd why not get it. I havent bought a domain in a year or so.

Facts and Sales, dashes hurt

Facts and Sales
Of course 5G is worth more, that s obvious..
Doesn't cost a penny to be positive regarding a purchase other than your own does it?

But still a premium pronounceable (pseudo-word) LLL that's worth renewing.

That's a given of course, it's got value that's for sure.

That said its probably not a domain I would ever cold call to pursue. I would probably make an offer if it was presented to me but it would not have made the list of d 3 letter domains that I would absolutely be enamored by.

Example...

now
red
hot
joy
gem
run
sex
win
jet
law
kid
car
etc...

Those are super premiums that command big bucks

I am actually positive....

I'm positive it has a fairly low value, that is why it was available for hand registration.

And I do often critique my own domains, I will give you an example.

Years back I thought 4sex.ca must be a good domain when I hand registered it.
Every year since I have considered dropping it and have instead held on to it, not an offer, not a peep.

Now in theory it should be a decent domain, but in the .ca realm its is OK at best and really has very little value.

So yes, I often critique my own domains in the same way and I will be the first to say that I own a lot of just OK domains. Its fine to own them and sometimes one gets lucky with them but I also don't want anyone else to sugar coat it and tell me that 4 sex is a GREAT domain when we all know its ok at best.

That's all I'm saying.... we have to be realistic, that does not mean I am belittling or criticising members, it just means I am accurately calling a domain.

That said if 5-G got a big sale I would be first to jump in and offer my congratulations, I would be genuinely happy for the member. (y)

I think hyphen domains sell with much easier with a site than as a domain on its own but its all a crapshoot for sure

I once owned when .co came out the domain WineCellars.co

I sold it for over $3000 only weeks after i hand regged it

So what did i do? I then regged dozens of wine related.co's

I regged wineracks.co, winebottles.co, winesupply.co, wine this.co, wine that.co but I had not one offer after that.

I of course offered them all to the same buyer who bought winecellars.co but no go on any.

Go figure

so i learned to reign it in buy 1 at a time and look at making wordpress websites with so so domains to give them more value

@MapleDots

I agree with you when it comes to hyphens, but what about instances where a hyphen might be grammatically correct, and is more commonly written that way? Like cbd-infused for example. Still at a disadvantage with the hyphen?

Hyphens do have a solid sales history but they are a hard sell.

Companies like Mercedes-Benz are a good example where they own both including MercedesBenz but they are using the hyphen because that is their actual name.

I recently purchased 3 hyphen domains but to be bluntly honest I only bought them because the non hyphenated ones were not available. So I applied the same criticism to my own domains but in my case some of them are actually used with hyphens in real life, just like Mercedes-Benz.

Have you heard back on your offer? When did you offer it?

I have been after that domain for years and have gradually crept up with my offers on it but they were all turned down.

I had an end use for the domain but have since launched that website with a twoword .ca instead.

You can guess what one of the words was :xf.wink:

Holy guacamole, we barely have 1/2 a day of TBR listings for next week and there are already 35 LLLs on the list. That's insane.

Mercedes-Benz is a great example where a hyphen is preferred, same with 7-Eleven and Coca-Cola, but those have more to do with brands/branding than grammar.

I'm wondering whether google's ranking algorithm would ever give preference to a hyphen because of grammar (and due to news stories writing it that way), and not just because it involves a well-known brand.

I only have two domains with hyphens but they are grammatically correct and commonly written as such in the news... That said, I still feel at a disadvantage because I dare assume that most people still wouldn't include a hyphen when typing in a domain or searching on google, even for a brand like coca-cola. I must also admit that I would have taken the non-hyphenated domains first had they been available.

In short, I think it's fair to say we should always avoid hyphens when we can but there is always the possibility someone might want both and would ultimately prefer to use the hyphen in their official branding/website.

I don't think google will rate hyphens better or worse, their algorithm is much too complex. The site will rate on popularity, backlings etc.

The whole idea that google ranks according to domain name has been losing cloud for some time now. Google does not specify everything in how their search results rank data but you can see examples where domains without dashes come out ahead and the other way around.

Way too many complexities in google ranking than domain name alone.
