I'm just curious. I have a number of domains that I've had for a long time, some for just sentimental reasons, but they aren't doing anything for me. Is there anything that you guys do to assess if you should hold a domain? And if you are going to hold a domain that currently produces no revenue, what is the common practice today?

I try to take a long hard look at domains like this that I have. Particularly if it's for sentimental reasons. I start with... Is it still justified? Often times it doesn't seem so necessary as when it was registered. So try to drop them. This is a business, after all. Actually I use much the same test on my non-sentimental domains also. But add the question.... Is there any likelihood of this domain selling in the next 2-5 years? If not I drop. It sometimes take a really hard look, in order the bite the bullet. Good luck :)

Of course it also depends if they have any REAL value, and the TLD. It's much easier to drop the non-com domains. IMHO.

I deleted a 19 year old name was sick of renewing it 'dial up' related and never getting a bite since broadband. Let the merit be the domain itself not the age of it.

lol

did ya get dizzy spells? :)

for me, only got a couple of sentimental names, so that's no biggie :)

but like @lock, pondering to drop some, does cause a bit of anxiety

some I've dropped, then get offers for them soon after, and that bites

it makes you think about those 'what if's' again

and if you think you've got a good eye when you first got it, then maybe time for right buyer just hasn't arrived yet.

when I drop names now, most get caught by HD, so they prolly see, what I saw when I got it.

but if you got cash, then what the hell, renew for a few more years.

:)

imo...
