advice I want to build 3 page wordpress sites for my 160 domain portfolio

I am looking to build a 3 or 4 page Wordpess website for each of my domains. It will be monetized with affiliate links and adsense. Hopefully after a few months these sites might get some traction and then I may have a better chance of selling them. I will add up to date curated content, images and videos relevant to the domain.

Do you think this is a good idea? Or, is there a better way?

Thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You're a few years late and not as easy as it sounds.

Writing original content is a chore. Multiplying that work will become unmanageable. If you wan't to be in the content business, focus on a general topic / on website.

I don't think it is a bad idea, but managing it for 160 sites is not reasonable, in my opinion. Also, I think it is important to be clear on whether you are doing it primarily to increase exposure to eventually sell the domain, or to make recurring revenue from the sites.

What I would suggest is the following. Go through your portfolio and pick 2 or 3 domains that you feel best placed to create content and judge links, and try it out on them. Then after doing that for a few months, decide whether you want to expand to more. It is surprisingly hard to get traffic and to monetize and takes regular updates which is not easy, but it is easier when it is a topic you are interested in and passionate about.

If you already have a social media presence in a niche it is easier to be effective in that area. Also, it is, perhaps surprisingly, easier to get Google presence when you are specialized. Like there are a zillion sites on all of the common topics, but people are interested in even fairly specialized topics, and i think that is where the future for mini sites remains.

writing original content for so many sites, not quite impossible but really difficult.
What you can do is hire people for content writing and managing the websites.

This is the correct answer. If you have a killer keyword name, then throwing up a 10 page site with some epic content can definitely work, especially if you know your way around SEO.

But doing this properly, 160 times, is a massive amount of work.

You can probably automate it and throw up a bunch of crap content but you won't make more than pennies per month, if that. Better to actually figure out what it takes to build a great mini site and focus on one or two, and forget about the rest.

Good ideas, I suggest you use blogger, you do not need hosting, hacker risks = 0

yes, you can not manage many sites because you need updates and many many hackers here

so that, google blogger is the best way.

3 times 160 = 480 pages
why dont use those 480 pages into one domain, get ranked get traffic get earning and in the end you could sell it
then you could rinse and repeat it for the reset 159 domains

I'm wondering if the "Key" term used in the OP may be leading to some, very important, but different question/responses?

I believe the OP mentioned using curated content, that not necessarily original content. Think (older) WPRobot, or Wordpress Automatic, etc.. Yeah, it can be used (a bit) but in the very general sense curated content - if not significantly augmented with original will hurt more than help. I am wondering if something like the guys at Dub.io set up is what you had in mind - are they still active?

Sorry if I went off topic - I may have misinterpreted the original base of your question.

Don't let these people scare you. If you think it, you can do it! Just do it. Don't listen to doubters and spend all your time on the sites. Build 10 a week and you'll be done in a few months. Easy Peasy!!

Good luck and good riddance to the doubters, no space for them in your life!

Thanks for your kind and very wise words Larry. I know there are many doubters about, they love to put people down, it gives them false authority. I do take what is said with a pinch of salt, but I do read those messages that have validity and use them. I know when I place domains for appraisal on forums I get the trolls making their mark. I don't mean that its this forum, but others I have used in the past.

@papeter Just read your last post and hope my message wasn't taken as negative, as it was not -in any way- meant to be. Just wanted to highlight curated vs orig and the possible effect. I am with Larry on this (and have too many to handle dev projects going right now, myself) and think everyone should build out sat least some sites for a whole variety of sales and learning reasons.

Also, as you are building out - you will find basic SEO tools necessary, feel free to use my free SEO site AiSerp.com (sig below as well). I only really share it with NP folks (don't care if you share with friends, feel free), hopefully you find them helpful.

Best of luck,
Brian

Thanks for starting this thread, Peter. An important and interesting topic.

I noticed that @Rick Schwartz latest blog post on the general topic of advice to domain investors actually says several things relevant to this. He strongly supports the idea of multiple revenue stream and pushes the idea of first setting up a mini monetized site, before you try to sell the name, in order to as it were test the waters. If your site is popular, it places you in a stronger position when you do try to sell the domain name. Also, from seeing what ads a service like Adsense place on it will give you ideas of possible end users that you might have overlooked. It does make sense to me, even in a market where it is much harder to monetize sites. Here is link...

Should be very tedious, but with undiluted determination and commitment, possible.
You don't necessarily need to write for 160 domains. You should give priority to quality over quantity.

Lastly, write few nice articles and then use article spinner to publish spinned copies on the other sites. This way, search engines will find it hard to penalize your sites for duplicate content.

that's a good idea but a time taking and team process as it needs content. I'm doing the same for some of my Geo+Service names and planning to build a few more in this year. some sites I have leased out to lawyers for lead generation, on some we are displaying ads banners of mortgage brokers. overall getting healthy revenue per month which I may have got if I have sold these domains. But again its a overall process not just building websites, u need to get content written, SEO for ranking them and all.

If the King says this, there must be something in it that's worth experimenting. Thanks for that Bob.
