So, I find a name in the $11 closeouts (freshly added/dropped) this morning, add it to my cart and continue looking for more. Under 45 minutes after I added it I go to check out and it is not in my cart.

I try to add it again and guess what..it is gone. This is not the first time this has happened and before the name(s) was usually mediocre but this one was pretty good (mid xxxx at retail).

Does this happen to anyone else?

Thanks...I guess that should be the takeaway from this. Rather than keep adding names, just go ahead and check out one at a time.

Yep, before putting it in the cart do your reasearch and then BAM! Cart and pay and move on...

Not just at Godaddy, but every registrar.....to be on the safe side (I might be paranoid, but I sleep better for it)

Yes and it tends to happen more frequently the better the domain.

I sleep better for it

Wow...that took me way back to the first time I used the godaddy aftermarket/auctions years ago.

While getting chemo I could not sleep well for many weeks and I would wake up continuously...one night in particular I found several names and put them in my cart...when I woke up the next morning (many hours later) I was surprised they were gone!?!?!

Looks like I am still in a learning curve years later!

UPDATE:

I've been doing this a long time and I know how carts work, especially the timing out aspects, availability after adding, etc. but today has been a new experience.

This thread was about one name in particular disappearing from my cart while others remained and just now, as I am preparing to leave for a meeting, for fun I did a search through the auction section of godaddy. Several times since my initial post I have double checked to see if the name would somehow return(?) to may cart and it did not.

The last step I wanted to take was to check the auction pages again and the name that went missing was back. I know a name will come out of availability once someone puts it into a cart and can come back if that person does not buy it within a couple hour window (roughly), but I am still confused as to how it 'dropped' out of my cart.

The bottom line is that when I spotted the name again, I deleted the other names in my cart (taking it to empty status) and added the name in question. Once it was there I promptly checked out and it appears as though it has gone through.

So, as I am getting ready to rush out the door, I wanted to let others know what happened in the event they might experience this same scenario.

It happened to many many times and if you are so sure it was good then why delay the checkout? Always move ahead with the checkout.

Probably some API access who keeps hitting it.

Since you are implying you are in sync with Sherlock, why don't you let me know how long you would expect something to remain in a cart before a system would purge it?

(hint--there are industry standards)

Also, since you have that insight, why would it disappear in the first place when others did not?

I await your sharing of knowledge.

I didn't consider that...I'm sure HD's bots were actively crawling as well as others...thanks for the constructive comment.

That's good to know. I'll be more careful about checking out after I put something in my cart. Actually I don't usually use the cart to prevent other people from grabbing a domain whilst I "think about it". I usually do that thinking before I put anything in my cart. I was also under the impression it was a fixed time in the cart. What is it 2 or 3 hours. So it's a surprise that it is not a fixed time.
