My Efty Experience (So Far) - Quick Review

NameSilo
Watch
Hi Name Pros,

I have been using Efty for nearly 2 weeks now and would like to share overral rating out of 5 + cons.

Features: 3 / 5
  • Lacks basic key features to maintain trust with buyer + payment processor once a domain name has sold (E.g., there are no automated emails for sold domains, no 302 redirect of sold domain to homepage, no marking of a sold domain as "sold" to prevent a double-buy which could result in a refund request, etc.)
  • Super basic and branded 404 pages (... they should not be branded at all)
  • No XML sitemap (had to create a subdomain to host my root / marketplace's sitemap)
  • No out-the-box solution for a CDN such as CloudFlare (although I got mine to work)
  • Minimal automation; the marketplace owner must manually key-in quite a bit post-sale or upon domain import to properly calculate figures such as Investment / Revenue / Sold / Fees, etc.
  • No Installment / Payment Plan feature (super important and highly requested; 100% of my premium domain acquisitions for the past 3 years have used this similar feature on other marketplaces)
  • The "Buy Now" feature redirects to their own branded checkout screen that is most likely questionable to the customer + it's not customizable. *The customer should never leave the custom marketplace, nor should Efty assume what converts best?
Support: 3.5 / 5

Fairly new, but support has been super quick. However, by ignoring highly requested features and/or lacking some major ones; must give a 3.5 / 5 based on that alone; otherwise a 5 (so far) for sure.

Stability: 1 / 5

OK; here's where the #1 problem is that should be fixed right away; their servers have been down several hours within a day nearly every day since subscribing. Either that OR WAY TOO SLOW. No matter how you slice it; it's true. What good is any of this if my traffic can't load the 'For Sale' landing pages? So far today alone there has been a total of 3 hours of down-time spread out. This requires immediate attention.

*I will update this when or if ever needed.
**Major potential, and I am a happy customer (for now) and will be a much happier customer if the server issues are fixed.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
How would you compare with undeveloped.com, Sedo , afternic, if youparked with any of these before.

I think , Efty should be used for creating good looking landing pages only, not for negotiation (except email/messages) becuase offers are not binding.

You didn't mention the most important thing: tracking. Is it useful? Does it take too much time to analyze traffic?

@topdom; they have a super basic Google Analytics feature ...

Stay far away from @Undeveloped
because they're a joke and closed my account based on some criticism after selling a domain of mine without my authority + at a different price point after requesting them to cancel a transaction (which I have in writing). They made several illegal moves then closed my account when I complained; stay far away.

Afternic + GoDaddy, several bad experiences and too much brokering going on when not requested nor authorized (don't doubt it ;)

Sedo imo is great, hefty commissions though.

I must admit that Afternic + GoDaddy performs well though; but all the unauthorized brokering kills the deal.

Obviously not a top rating for them, but I think this kind of honest, extensive and productive reviews are great for any company eagar to improve and develop further.

@DomainAuction

Would love it if you could give Domain Market Pro a try and do a comparison. We want to give domain investors the best tools possible. Your feedback is super important.

Super serious allegations against @Undeveloped . How on earth do they sell your domain without your authority when you added it to their platform and you added the buy it now/make offer prices?

Domain got an offer, I accepted, hours later customer requested payment plan, i declined, i then stated that original offer that was accepted is firm, customer claimed to pay but didnt, policy changed and request to cancel the limited time offer was requested and approved (have it in writing) at 2 AM PST, got a confirmation email that transaction was cancelled, 7 AM PST customer notified to submit payment (by then the price was already updated because it was confirmed the transaction was cancelled), customer winds up paying previous offer, I complain, they close my account.

Who authorized them to remind customer for payment once transaction cancelled? Who auhorized them to sell at previous price when already updated? And, who authorized them to negotiate ANYTHING?

What exactly do you mean by this? If they make an effort to find buyers for your domains, this is a good thing. If they place a gap between buying and selling prices this is bad.

I sold one domain there and selling price was higher than asking price. This became possible because things happened verbally, not by posting prices on the domain. On the other hand price requests don't go anywhere. No feedback, no counteroffer, no IP, no hints.

Thank you for giving Efty a try and taking the time to share extensive feedback 👍

Earlier this week we experienced some issues with our nameservers, after which we have rolled out emergency maintenance. We are monitoring our nameservers very closely and they have been stable since.

Hi Karmaco,

Before I reply, please note that this thread is about Efty. Namepros moderators, feel free to move these posts about Undeveloped to another destination.

To respond to your question: of course, we didn't sell a domain without his consent. The OP handled the transaction/negotiation himself.

At Undeveloped sellers price their domains, and we do not touch their negotiations. I was informed that the OP (DomainAuction) asked us to cancel a transaction, which we did.

Then the buyer ends up paying for the domain. We proceeded and asked the OP if he wanted us to re-activate the transaction or if he prefers us sending the buyer a refund.

What triggered my colleague to delete the OP's account is that the OP demanded us to offer him a commission-free transaction (because the buyer of the canceled transaction ended up paying, we don't understand or follow this logic until today) and he used wording that was perceived as a threat to engage in defamatory actions if we didn't comply (which he did, his post here is pretty defamatory).

Of course, this type of behavior is not something that we accept from our sellers so the OP was informed in a lengthy email why his account with us was closed and he was advised to use a different marketplace that fits his needs better.

To conclude the following statements from the OP are factually false:

1: Sellers claim: they're a joke and closed my account based on some criticism after selling a domain of mine without my authority

1: What really happened: We closed his account for threatening us with defamatory posts if we didn't handle the transaction commission free.

2: Sellers claim: + at a different price point after requesting them to cancel a transaction (which I have in writing)

2: What really happened: the domain was sold for $700. The transaction was canceled and the buyer paid the exact $700 which he had agreed to sell the domain for after the transaction was canceled.

3: Sellers claim: They made several illegal moves then closed my account when I complained.

3: What really happened: According to our TOS we can close your account. This is absolutely legal as we dictate the rules of conduct on our platform. By deleting your account, we protect the reputation of our marketplace and our buyers since you've indicated to now want to follow our processes.

We didn't close the account of the OP for complaining. I've read back the intercom messages between him and my colleague and what he did wasn't complaining but trying to get a commission-free transaction. And that backfired.

Kind regards,

Reza

People just like whining and complaining to get attention.
I have been with Undeveloped for a while and NEVER HAD any problem with them.

It's just wasting people time with threads like this:

You can add....

No chance of removing the efty emoticon unless you go top tier.

I still cannot get over that..... I would never want my website bookmarked in a potential clients browser with another companies logo instead of mine. This is such a big oversight and it was the main reason I moved a thousand domains out of Hover in years gone by. For all domain forwards there was no way to get rid of their emoticon. What a joke that was....

I like Efty for keeping track of renewals, income etc. I do not like their limited payment options for Growth plan and will be transporting leads within a certain price range over to Undeveloped. The 5% is worth peace of mind.

I don’t care to use Escrow unless it’s a very big sale and even with that I can’t “concierge” it through Efty I have to do it manually.

PayPal is something you use when there is some level of protection or trust which can’t happen with unknown strangers. Would not risk it except for very small sales. So as a payment option at Efty, it is non protective and useless. Great for payers you trust and that’s all.

Also I find the platform glitchy at times with the new app. Have not decided if what I mentioned above is worth staying for.

If you love Escrow Efty is definitely a good option.

Been away from domaining for a while, contemplating building back up again.

A bit has changed so trying to catch up.

Just looked at Efty, I did a trial when it was brand new.... I have to say, it doesn't bode very well that 3 of the 5 customer testimonials are from customers who are no longer with Efty.

Two URL's lead to Efty shops.
Two URL's lead to websites hosted elsewhere / self-hosted.
One URL leads to a HugeDomains sales lander.

And what is particularly astonishing about that is that it appears the owners of Efty don't care enough about the project now to fix that, amateur and doesn't fill me with enough confidence to give them moolah!

Have they pretty much given up?

It would be nice if Dan.com offered a custom domain though and allowed people to set their own default search order on their port pages (rather than shortest domain first). I mean, if I owned an incredible one word premium I wouldn't want nonsense like 45xh.com at the top of my portfolio page.

We haven't given up. Quite the opposite. The number of sellers with Efty is at an all-time high and we're in the process of launching a complete redux of the sales platform soon. This includes a new homepage, and perhaps it would be good to include some fresh testimonials there too :)

As you know, Efty offers much more than a "domain shop" and not every seller uses the marketplace feature. Nonetheless, we have shipped three brand-new themes for the marketplace during the last 12 months. You can see an example at NameRockstar.com for one of these.

As for the testimonials, four out of five of these gentlemen are still active, happy Efty users but some of them have changed their store-front as they either no longer see the benefit of showing their entire inventory on a marketplace or because they expanded their business and started offering additional services such as brokerage and therefore had a need for a more content-rich website. I understand that it could be confusing or give the wrong signals if those links lead to a non-Efty-powered site so I'll see if we can give that an update. Thanks for the heads up!

Stay tuned for a big update soon.

Thanks for the response, I look forward to seeing what comes. It will be a while before I have a portfolio with sufficient depth of quality to open up a storefront anyway.

The majority of our sellers use our solution to host commission-free, for-sale landing pages. No need for a storefront for that. We've been adding new landing page themes consistently for the last few years so there are many different templates to choose from. Feel free to sign up for another, free trial account so you can kick the tires, and don't hesitate to email us at [email protected] if you need any help while getting started.
