Ok so. recently I had domains over at a Godaddy reseller that had expired. They were a .de domains.
They expired and immediately removed from my account.
although I still have .de domains in my account that expired back in june 2018 that this reseller is still reminding me via email to renew.
mind you after 6 months I can renew them without a redemption fee. (What's that all about?)
Godaddy told me that those domains that expired 6 months ago are a "FLUKE" and not the norm.
So I asked them what my options were now. Of course all they "will" say is your option is to pay the REDEMPTION FEE.
Well I read somewhere that .de has no redemption fee? so what's this all about?
mind you have hese 10 .de domains in my account that expired 6 months ago that to this day I can simply renew for the typical renewal fee without a redemption.
Why were these two .de domains removed from my account on the day of expiration and not these others?
Again GD rep say's it's a "fluke".
alright well of course I contact DENIC which is the registry for .de and they tell me that .de does have a redemption grace period of 30 days. in which no one can register the .de domain.
in which case I have two options to contact the current registrar to get the auth codes to transfer them out.
Of course I can't do this with the current situation for these .de domains over at Godaddy because Godaddy had placed them into REDEMPTION!
So the only way to get auth codes is.................................. to pay the $80 to redeem them and put them in good standing.
Slick!
of course they won't tell you that you could have simply transferred the domains out.
Denic told me if the domain registrar can't provide the auth codes. all you need to do is pay for a transfer to another registrar.
That registrar will have to contact Denic about the .de domain transfer request.
Here's the tricky part. unless you had your whois info public prior to expiration then you can't transfer.
Denic told me they would send the auth codes....wait for it. via actual Postal Mail!
What?!?!?!
lol.
They would send the auth codes via postal mail to the address associated with the domain prior to it expiring.
This way you won't need the old registrar to give you the auth codes.
so if you ever have .de domains expire for some reason and you forgot. just contact Denic. have them create a ticket. then pay for a .de transfer (not the current registrar you lost the domains at) then have the new registrar contact Denic for the transfer codes.
Done and done.
