SquadHelp - Marketplace

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I would like to address some of the recent comments here:

1) Squadhelp DOES NOT register any domains without creative's consent - the only domains we register are the ones explicitly approved by creatives for listing in SH marketplace as a premium domain. Registering domains without creative's consent would not only be unethical - we would be violating our own Terms of Service if we were to engage in such an activity. In fact all staff members of SH are also prohibited from buying and selling domains.

2) There is a process in place for reporting domain registrations. We follow this process consistently for all contests when a domain is reported as registered. If you haven't reported the recent issues you mentioned, (I could not see any recent reports), please do so as soon as possible so our team has an opportunity to investigate.

3) There are multiple ways to participate in our platform. Over 80% of creatives on our platform are not domainers and they prefer to participate by submitting unregistered domains to contests and marketplace. However, there are risks with submitting unregistered domains (since they can be registered by anyone) and you should only do that if you believe the benefits outweigh the risks.

SH registered domains offer significantly lower commission to creatives vs the seller registered option. Therefore, if you have Domaining and Investment experience, it is probably in your best interest to submit registered domains. This will not only give you significantly larger payouts, but you will also have the flexibility to delist the domains by giving a 7 day notice and sell it in a different platform if you prefer.

4. Submitting registered domains to SH contests does not force you to transfer the domain by accepting the contest award. Here is how it works:

a) If the CH selects you as a winner but is not interested in buying your domain, you keep the contest award, and continue to list the domain on the Marketplace.
b) If your domain is listed as a Premium or Basic Plus listing, the CH can only acquire the domain by purchasing it at full price. In fact, in this case, we apply the contest award towards the purchase but you still receive the payout based upon full price. For example, if a CH is running a contest with $300 award, and you have a Premium or Basic Plus listing domain listed for $1999, the CH only needs to pay $1699 to acquire the domain (however your payout will be based upon the full listing price of $1999 minus the SH commission). Therefore, in some ways, you are selling the domain at a discounted price while receiving the full purchase price if it makes sense.
c) If your domain is listed as a Basic listing, you must transfer the domain to CH at no additional cost. Therefore we do not recommend submitting your "Basic" listing domain to contests unless your comfortable with receiving only the contest award. A better option would be to list it as a Basic Plus listing (or Premium) and then submit to contests.

Hope this helps!

What happens if you submit a domain you own to a contest and the domain is not listed for sale at SH?

If the CH selects your domain as the winner what happens with the winning domain if the contest holder wants the domain but the domain is not listed on the SH marketplace?

You cannot list a domain that is not on SH , only if it is unregged. So either it is regged and in your account or it is unregged

only if it is unregged

I wonder what happens if during a contest you come up with a great name, then submit that name to the contest and then decide to register it.

What happens if the CH then selects that name as the winner?

Now this is clear now. Lets see what @GrantP says. I think they will want for free but I am just guessing.

I submitted a domain to a contest recently.

I got a no thank you on the name.

I withdrew the name.

I tried to submit the name to a new contest.

The name has been registered and is now for sale at Squadhelp !!!!

What are the odds?

It is a pretty unusual name.

Not one you would easily come up with.

And now it is for sale at SquadHelp - pretty suspicious.

At least 2 other names submitted to the same contest are also registered.

They both resolve to the same website.

Again, what are the odds???

Astronomical if you ask me.

I can't report some names because they are in the withdrawn area and the

"report domain registration" button does not work.

The contest is still pending a winner.

Not cool!!!

If you want to sell your domain for a price greater than award amount, you must register it first, and then add it as a Basic Plus or Premium Listing before submitting it to a contest.

If you have submitted a name as an unregistered domain to a contest, you will only receive the contest award if you win the contest. If you register it while the contest is Active or pending, you must transfer the domain in lieu of contest award if you are selected as winner.

This policy is in place to allow a transparent process for our customers. Imagine a customer shortlisting certain names, going through the due diligence process (such as Audience Testing, Trademark validation) and then finding out that they have to now pay an additional amount (in addition to contest award) to acquire the domain. We believe such an information must be disclosed upfront to avoid any surprises for anyone involved.

Here is a link to our Entry submission policies;

@Cdomains As stated previously, please follow the reported domain process shared previously. If your entry was withdrawn by you, you can restore it by going to the contest page, and then you should be able to click on Report Domain Register.

If this is not working, please click the Blue Button so our customer service team can look into it. If you suspect anything serious such as multiple domains pointing to the same website, please report it via blue button.so our team has an opportunity to investigate.

I get that this sucks. But this strikes me as an obvious risk when you're putting a name you don't own on the internet. If you're submitting the same name to multiple contests, why not just spend the $5 and register it? If that's not worth it to you, then why get upset about someone else registering it?

SH allowing unregistered domain submissions to contests seems fraught with risk to me. If you choose to use that feature, I think you pretty much have to assume that the CH will see that it isn't registered and just register it themselves if they like it.

Sounds great except the odds of a domain being accepted these days is pretty low.

Not to mention the time it takes before a domain is reviewed and then if it is accepted

the time it takes to become live.

By that time the contest will be over.

This already happened to me.

I submitted a domain because I thought it would be a great fit for a contest that was

going on.

By the time I got a response the contest was over.

Incidentally, I resubmitted that name for review and received an email

stating that it was reconsidered and approved and should be live within

a few days.

That was 3 weeks ago - still nothing.

I contacted support about this and was told it would be referred to the team.

That was last Tuesday.

All in it has been 3 weeks and still my approved domain is still not active.

then why get upset about someone else registering it?

Because I trusted the integrity of the platform, and also the rules

about submitting owned domains that are not listed at SH are very unclear.

I have 22 names live now.
waiting for my first sale..
Great thing is you get exposure of every name you add.

click the Blue Button

What blue button are you referring to.

Also, I am doubtful it will get resolved.

Read my post about another issued I have

that has been pending for 3 weeks and is still unresolved.

If you register it while the contest is Active or pending, you must transfer the domain in lieu of contest award if you are selected as winner.

Does this mean you lose out on the contest award, a domain sale, and to boot, you lose your domain and the reg fee too.

In other words you get absolutely nothing, and actually lose $ because of the domain reg fee?

I know I must be misunderstanding your answer.

If you submit a domain as a Basic Plus listing, there are no approvals required and the domain goes live immediately. If you feel you have a name that is a great fit for a contest, and you would like to offer it for a price higher than the contest award, here are the simple steps to follow:

* Register the domain
* Submit it as a Basic Plus Listing (the listing goes live immediately)
* Submit it to contest

SH commission in case of basic plus listing is typically lower than premium listings - so this strategy might actually work better than trying to submit it as a premium listing upfront (especially if you have a specific contest where you want to submit the name). You can always try to upgrade the listing to premium later if you are concerned about the rejection rate, and the approval times.

Wow, this is something I did not know.

So far, I have only submitted names as premium names.

I did not know there was no approval required for the basic listing.

Just a heads up to all as it’s a crazy policy considering names change hands all the time— if you reject their commission for any reason the name you rejected cannot be submitted or listed at “Premium” level ever again by anyone else. It can only be listed on basic or basic plus. Seems like the name is punished forever because of one person’s decision which doesn’t make a lot of sense since it was good enough to be premium before.

So don’t hit reject button unless you are 100% sure.

I had a situation where my domain name was registered with the same registrar, on the same day, same hour, same minute with just a few seconds difference from the winning name. I reported this to support and ... nothing. SH probably sent an email to the CH, they ignored it and that was it.

So if you come up with a really great name, register it and list in on SH before submitting it. Or be ready to see it registered by someone else.

How about if you add it as basic Plus and then use the Request Review function? To my knowledge then it would be manually reviewed by the staff of Squadhelp and would have a chance to be approved as premium. But I could be wrong.

And to the same note, do not delete names that are pending review unless you are 100% sure. I did that once shortly after they added that function and it wasn't clear how it works and guess what, there's no way to add that name back to the pending review list after you deleted it. I tried submitting it again and got the error message saying that the name was already submitted for review. Then I contacted support and asked if they could retrieve the name and put it back to the pending review list since it wasn't reviewed after all, but I was told it's not something they can do. I advised adding an undo function and if they are not willing to do that then at least add a note (which would show up as you hover with your mouse on the delete button) informing that this decision will be permanent, but it's not there yet.

I am waiting to hear back. Two staff members told me two different things. I have submitted the names in question for review.

Also, if you list the name as basic plus listing and then request a review for premium or even submit for premium from there, and it gets rejected, then they remove it from the whole account. I told them this before and they said they sent to the team.

And if you see the timeframe...the rejection happens in next 4-5 hrs after submission...that pisses me off everytime 😡.Never got any domain approved that way. I stopped doing that and unlist the domain instead.

24 months of installments? 0 control for the domain owner?

Its a bit extreme. That's $83 a month for a domain priced at $2k..

What are we doing here? begging for money?

Don't like taking it to 24 months.

•••
We must have more control of the months allowed for installments. Undeveloped lets you pick them to your liking.

I just found on SH all my 6 month installments switched to 12 months and I dont want that, but I do like the idea of installments.

If we cant control it, then its no use to me.

Received this message just now....From SquadHelp Announcement

**Updated Announcement**

We had previously sent an announcement regarding expanded installment plans for 12 months and 24 months.
We understand that some sellers want more flexibility about how many months of installments to offer on their domains. We agree with this, and we are pleased to announce some additional changes related to installment options.
You can now setup custom installment options by making bulk changes to your domains. From your Marketplace Listings page, select multiple domains and click "Edit Domains".
From the popup, you can now select an installment option that works for you. You can also disable installments from the section.
We believe that by offering longer periods of installments, we would be able to sell even more domains to buyers who are looking for more affordable, monthly payment options.
At this point, the 24 month option will only be offered for domains priced at $2000 or above.
We have updated our Terms to allow for longer installment durations. There are no other changes to our policies related to how we handle installment payouts to sellers. Here is a link to our Installment Terms:

https://helpdesk.squadhelp.com/domain-marketplace/marketplace-domain-installments-terms-for-sellers
If you had previously enabled installments on your domains, they would stay enabled with the default "6 months" option. You can change them to 12 months or 24 months using the steps mentioned above.
We are committed about improving our platform every day, so please keep the feedback coming!
