TLDR
You may already know that if your domain sells at DD marketplace then you have to pay 5% marketplace commission. You may also know that the sold amount goes to your "account credit". Then you have to request for a "payout".

What you probably do not know is that if the amount is lesser than $500 they WILL NOT release the money to you. Why ? Because it is their "policy". What you also probably do not know is that when they make the "payout" to you they deduct another 5% as a "transaction fee". So that is a 10% commission baby !

Bottomline - My money is stuck at Dynadot, and whatever little liquidity I would have is now gone.
-----------------------------------------

THE STORY
This morning, I got a $1xx offer on a domain which happens to be also listed at DD marketplace. It ended up being finalized at $3xx. The communication was through their private messaging system. After negotiations, I set the BIN. Buyer hit the BIN. And then I received the following email from DD :

A buyer has purchased xxxxxxxxxxxx.com from your listing in our marketplace. The domain has been moved to the buyer's account. Your Dynadot account will be credited xxx USD for this sale once the processing period is over.

@Dynadot Whaat ? I never asked you to send it to my "Dynadot account" ! Why can't you just pay me like any other domain market and simply send it to my paypal or something ..? just take your commission and pay the rest ! Isn't it wrong to hold seller's funds like that ? I do not know of any other domain marketplace that does this.

Now I realiz that it was a terrible terrible decision use DD marketplace for a domain sale. Had I known this would happen, I would have definitely taken the lead to either EPIK, UD or NameSilo.

TAKEAWAY
If you really really really have to use DD then please remember to price your domain above $500 + 10%.

REQUEST
Anyone knows of any other way I could withdraw this money to my Paypal ?

@Dynadot I have already spent $700+ this year in my DD account. Is it possible to make an exception in your policy and pay me the amount of my domain sale which is $3xx ?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
By mass payment do you mean us paying out multiple users at once? If so, that wouldn't be the case and all payout requests are paid out individually.

I hope I am not using wrogn terminology. however all marketplace payouts (sedo, gd auctions etc) are refered to as mass payments and they never come with additional paypal fees to receiver.

whether that implies they are paying multiple people at once or individually.. well.. I am actually not sure.

but I do know those markets use term mass payment as always implying no extra fee from paypal.

so I guess the situation with your payments still remains unresolved and people will continue to wonder whether the 10% fee is all the pay.. or if there is another fee on top of it from paypal.

https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/products/mass-pay/

masspay saves us (the recipients) paypal's fees. In my case, for example, it's around 5.41% which is *a lot*
Thank you, I can confirm we don't use the Mass Pay method, and all payouts would be manually processed individually by our team. They have advised that Paypal fees are covered by ourselves, so you should receive the amount listed on our site when you request the payout.

ah ok thanks for info
its always nice to have things 100% confirmed

so I guess this is why you charge the 4-5% extra fee.. on top of the market sale fee% ... its to cover any paypal fees

UPDATE :
I got busy for a while. Then as suggested, on 12th May I sent an email to DD requesting to release the payment to my PayPal. I received two emails from DD on 13th May saying that the amount has not even been credited to my account yet. Ouch !

It also mentions that it should get credited by 22nd May. The sale was made on 2nd May so that is a 20 days hold. They have also made it clear that there will be an additional 5% fee for the withdrawal request. Mentions nothing about the Paypal deductions though.

In order to use "masspay" option, one needs to:

1. Have it enabled on paypal account end. Not all accounts in all countries do have access to it by default. There should be no issues with U.S.-based business account (Dynadot case) though.

2. Upload csv file with basic payout details - recipents email, amount, etc. This can be done using web interface or API. I am unaware of any restrictions, the file may well contain just 1 line (1 payment to 1 beneficiary).
So, it should be possible to pay "individually" with masspayment.

3. Sender will pay the fee (low!, not a common fee) and the receipient pays nothing. Such payments are technically considered as "final" and the beneficiary would not see "refund" button.

Both Sedo and Afternic do use masspayments I beleive. And there is a good reason - such payments are cheap. Which is why paypal does not actively promote this payment method. But it exists.

I'm sorry to hear that, you shouldn't have been charged any Paypal fees. Would it be possible to forward a copy of any record of that (such as an email) to our team at [email protected] so they could look into that? Please feel free to redact any private information.
