What’s happening with increased spam messages in my inbox at Namepros??

I have to report multiple messages every other day for NamePros staff to alert them and warn about breaking forum rules :(

Anybody else facing this issue here? What can NamePros do (better) to avoid or keep spammers away from the forum... as it grows exponentially and becomes world’s largest domain name forum!

P.S. above screenshots are from today.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

You can add a posting rule: if it is a new member, judge whether the content of the post has 'SALE', if there is, continue to judge whether it has '.com/.net 'etc, if there is, then the sale will be higher than 500 US dollars. Will warn.
Or add new rules directly: new members will not be able to post more than $500.

Why are new members even allowed to send private messages in the first place?

Or you can respond by offering them one of your domains for 100k and tell them that you would gladly buy theirs once your transaction has closed. :xf.laugh:

Operative word is "new" not all new members are spammers.

I just keep reporting these "bad apples"..for me, getting spammed is just a necessary evil (lack of better phrase) for doing business on the internet.
I get FB/LinkedIn/Youtube/email/etc almost every day

might have to take it once, but then you can ignore!

I shouldve chosen a better word instead of NEW MEMBERS because you are right, every new member isnt a spammer after all.. but there should at least be a qualifying criteria somewhere in NamePros rules which shall prohibit (new) users from spamming others.

I hear ya. Maybe it should be raised on the priority list of rules to nps.

Isn't there a minimum amount of posting before able to PM?

I really like the concept of the Earn.com app (charge any amount for accepting mail), though I'm not sure if such an idea is too 'progressive' for a forum. But surely it does stop spam while freeing admins from monitoring.

It used to be something like that earlier if I'm not wrong, not sure about it now :(

I suspect some have not taken time to read rules and don't realize it is wrong. I do get some, not a ton, and have not noticed any increase of late.

I get similar 'offers' more often as direct messages trying to sell me names. Unless there is some specific logical reason why the name might have interest me I send a short clear reply saying don't send me random domain names or Tweet them with my tag or I will block you. Almost always they apologize and stop.

I wonder if NPs needs some system of making sure people have read basic rules prior to being given full activity. Like asked 10 key questions and they must answer correctly to unlock posting and DM control. e.g.
  1. Is it OK to DM a member about domain names I am selling even if they have never messaged me or asked for possible names? Y N
  2. Is it OK to comment in the thread about a domain name in a for sale thread? Y N
  3. etc....
Allow multiple takes, but need score 10/10 to unlock account to allow posting.

It’s ironic to complain about rules not being followed by new members when you have violated a rule at the same time, which is why we had to move your thread (You violated a rule due to where you posted it). ;)

Please set a good example for new members by following the rules yourself.

There are restrictions on new members accounts that do not allow them to send many DM’s in a day, so if they’re choosing to spam a particular member, then it’s not possible for them to spam anyone else that day because they’ve used up their allotted amount of DM’s.

These are not bots. They are real people who chose to send the DM. Just like Gmail can’t prevent it entirely, neither can NamePros. No service can, but NamePros does a better job at it than most, including Gmail. ;)

Excellent idea! I've added it to the internal suggestion page.

Hope that helps,

There is a rule that prohibits it from all members. Most members haven’t read it, though, as you’ve demonstrated. ;)
