The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Its absolutely 100% about sales - I am not even trying to hide that! The more comments - the more eyes that see it. If I get 1,000 people flaming me and 1 person who see the name and makes an offer - this all worked.
Why else would I post this on Reddit? This is 100% all about sales and if heart.org makes money in the process we all win. I am in contact with heart.org and they understand. They win too.

I don't see how a bunch of negative comments are going to make it more likely to result in a sale.

It looks like the post was removed. Probably because it was a blatant marketing ploy that was rightly called out by several posters.

This is obviously not cybersquatting, but you brought some of the roasting on yourself.

You are basically trying to sell a domain for way more than market value ($1M) with the angle of then donating 10% to charity.

If I can sell something for way over market value, I would be willing to do the same.
It really seems like an empty gesture IMO.

This post is far more about sales and marketing than about charity.

Brad

Isn't that what every company using charity angle does?

Buy it from us and we will donate 1%-5% to X charity! Albeit we have added 20% already to our normal margin and we'd be happy to give you 50% discount, if we could sell enough, and you could then actually use half of your discount for the charity of your liking and keep another half!

In a way.

However, this is like a company saying they will donate 10% to charity if you pay $40,000 for a TV that is worth $1,500. Then bitching about the fact they are getting roasted in response to it.

This is obviously not about charity and that is going to annoy many people.

The OP is getting roasted for a reason. No one wants to see some bullshit marketing pitch under the guise of an AMA.

Just an off-topic, but I thought it was interesting to share, pacemaker(dot)com is currently parked, pacemaker(dot)net is being used by a popular iOS application with the same name.
Aside from yours, all the other big "pacemakers" TLDs are all parked.

I am also fully aware that I will never get 1 million for the name. Its all about getting people to have eyes on it. If it doesn't work - oh well. I tried.
Stop being afraid - try something bold.

If it is 100% about the sale why only offer 10%? I think you would have received less abuse if you would have offered no donation at all. I would have personally gone for a 50% charity donation or even more as the domain is overpriced anyway and you would have received more support.

$1,300,000 sales price with a 51% donation to heart.org seems nicer than a $1,000,000 sales price with a mere 10% donation. My 2c.

I think you are creating more negative news, than positive, and it will eventually hurt the name, and any potential sale.

I don’t know who bidder 2 was in your $5500 auction, but they probably had the same dream to sell it back to Medtronic, which was a very expensive gamble that shows why we shouldn’t chase sure thing end user sales. If your $20k offer is still on the table, that is a decent offer for this boring domain. It’s not exactly an e-commerce product you purchase online directly, and diy at home.

It is a bit crazy the posts I had a read you just need to wait for the type in rather than incite these people.

It's fascinating to me that people think registering domain names for the purpose of selling them at a profit is somehow bad. They hear a catch word like "cybersquatting" and think knowing the word makes them an expert. Makes me furious when I think of the stupidity.

Regardless of what the domain ends up selling for, or how you choose the gain exposure, I applaud your composure in the midst of some real winners over there.

Thats great marketing for Heart.org. I can surely say the domain wont be selling with this 10% charity ploy but heart.org will recieve some donations from this. Imagine a guy coming across this sales pitch(who isnt interested in the domain name or its sale price) and thinks why should I give him 1 million for him to donate 10% of it to the charity when I can myself help that charity directly and give that 10% to charity myself while saving the other 90% in my pockets!

anything innnocent like owning a domain name, has to be scarred with a label. Earth is sick that way, but it was happening long b4 any of us were born. Have to understand preservation and taking labels with a grain of salt. Wouldn't change my mind about owning it or not though. Kudos, great domain name, hope you make a million plus on it, you cybersquatter, cant imagine what I am then. yipes. lol. (y)

I asked in your first thread "why only 10%?" because it seemed a little sleazy to give such a small portion of such a huge profit. A lot of people disliked that post... yet here we are.

The highest valued domains are typically acquired for commercial use.

Just Google "Pacemaker" and you will quickly see that it's mostly education about pacemaker devices - not much commerce going on at all.

It looks like most companies that produce pacemakers are B2B, so it would stand out for their clients being Pacemaker.com. It's memorable, and describes their business... if that is their sole business.

For me it's a vanity for any company involved in pacemakers, but not one that will give a significant commercial edge.

There is a sucker born every day, and I doubt while dealing with corporations you will find another Milo that has a unilateral decision making process without checks and balances.

I've had domains that were the most perfect goddamn domain for a business (we all have). The CEO approves, the COO approves, then some dipsh::poop::t "web guy" swoops in and nukes the transaction.

Selling this domain is going to be like that. You might be able to double your money, but I think a windfall for this one is doubtful.

Either way, good luck Richard.
