All these new domain extensions are not right in my opinion. Seems like a money grab which is going to create many mix-ups and problems down the road. Should be Criminal and is almost like extortion! Plus are we going to have the whole dictionary as new extensions? What's on your mind?

These are very similar:
.com = .company
.net = .network
.rent = .rentals
.tech = .technology
.finance = .financial
.car = .cars = .auto
.insure = .insurance
.accountant = . accountants
.porn = .sex
.supply = .supplies
and more ...

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
There should be subsitutes in every market (including the domain market) to avoid monopoly, just like there are many smartphone brands in the smartphone market. It is always good for buyers to have more choices and have the right and freedom to choose the extension that best suits them. So extension similarity should not be criminal nor extortion, instead it is good in buyers' perspective (though it is not good in investors' perspective...). If an extension is not in demand, it will fail and disappear.

What only matters is whether it is a type in or not. No point adding dot rentals to a keyword that is mediocre.

Having an involvement and interest in domains since 1996, have seen lots of companies, trends, principals and more, rise and fall or, never rise at all.

The number of new extensions is not unexpected and is in line with the massive growth of the overall domain industry.

As any industry grows many new and innovative or simply imitative offshoots try to get a hold of and piece of the marketplace - so more extensions means more money entering the industry and entering someone's profit ledger.

Yes, there may be confusion among some re all the extensions and similarities to others but it is incumbent upon the buyer / user to make certain and determine the right domain fit for their endeavor.

Some buyers of the new extensions must be purchase pleased if the extensions are still offered and selling.

IMO the old adage " survival of the fittest " will find it's eventual way to the domain extension marketplace and only those extensions with a profitable consumer / customer base will in effect, survive.

One thing I have learned as I get older is to never say "never" and what seems crazy may not be in due time.

Twenty years ago who could of predicted stadiums selling out so spectators could watch other people play video games. (Esports)

Twenty years ago who would of thought a rocket would land in the same position it took off in.

Sometimes you just got to live a little and take a chance.:xf.smile:

First off, .com stands for commercial...

Second off ... I love how everything on Namepros is "criminal" and a "scam." One guys loses his GoDaddy auction because his internet connection crapped out - so now everyone at GoDaddy is a criminal mobster.

People need to calm down with the words they use. Like when you call everyone "Hitler" it starts to lose its meaning and significance.

Yes - most of the new gtlds are dumb. But how are they criminal?

I dont understand why people are so concerned about too many extensions or even similar extensions being too confusing. How is it confusing to have a .rentals and .rent? With certain keywords one will make sense and the other will not.

Also, how is this really much different than how things work now with .com dominating the market? You can register or buy keyword+rentals.com or keyword+rental.com or keyword+rent.com or a thousand other variations. That what people do now, settle for just a little bit worse of a name. One day people will wake up and realize there is a cleaner version of a better name out there for them, and with a lower aftermarket price with ngtld names.

actually, IMO, how everything works now, if you own a two or three word .com name, chances are there are probably more existing names that could be considered confusingly similar to your name than there would be in ngtld format.

In the end, the best options will sell and the others will not. IMO, the more extensions there are, the better this whole thing can work for everyone. I say keep em' coming! And impatient domainers.. Please continue to let those awesome names drop for me!
