Welcome to Thunderdome!!

This is Gladiator meets Thunderdome meets Hunger Games - all wrapped up in one contest.

Let's see who can win the Thunderdome contest by acquiring the best .COM hand registration with an April 2019 Creation Date? "Best" will be determined by your peers. You must create the registration during the current month of April 2019. As long as Whois indicates the domain was created in April 2019 (2019-04-XX), then the name qualifies - it could have been a name born earlier that has since died and lost its age. Let me be clear, for this contest the name has to be a new DOT COM hand registration that you own at the moment of submission with an April 2019 Creation Date. If you sell a domain post-submission, Congrats! We are going by submission date ownership.

TWENTY Domains Enter ---> ONE Champion Emerges with each Battle Round.

And the domain that Emerges as Champion with each Battle Round will go the Top 20 Championship Match.

Here are the rules of this month's April 2019 DOT COM HAND REG contest:

1. Hand registration during the current month of April 2019 (.COM only).

2. You may submit up to (7) .COM domains this month. (Each domain submitted must have its OWN Reply Post so we can track "Likes" individually per domain).

3. So if you want to submit (7) domains, submit SEVEN separate Reply posts.

4. I am excluding myself from entering the contest, since I am facilitating the event!

5. Battle Rounds – Every 20 Consecutive Entries will compete in a Battle Round. Each Battle Round will last 48 hours. It is possible we may have multiple Battle Rounds competing simultaneously depending on submission volume. In the event of a tie during a Battle Round, we will provide a Hand-to-Hand combat round to finalize matters. A summary chart will be provided outlining which Battle Rounds are currently in play and which have been completed. For those completed, it will indicate the Champion.

6. Top 20 Finalist - will be selected the following way .---> (20) Battle Round Champions will move forward to the Top 20 Championship Match - a "Champion of Champions" match up.

7. WINNER - the overall winner of the contest will be selected by your peers via a TOP 20 Championship Match containing the Top 20 Finalist mentioned above. The TOP 20 CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH will occur after month end. This match (poll) will be set to have a voting window of 72 hours.

8. 400 Entry Cap - to keep things simple, we are capping this contest at 400 Qualified Entries (20 Battle Rounds with 20 Entries in each round)

9. We welcome EVERYONE to participate in selecting the WINNER from the Top 20 Finalist list.

10. In the event of a tie during the Top 20 Championship Match, we will have a SUDDEN DEATH MATCH to declare a victor. All other domains will be cast away in a Sudden Death Match and only those that tied for 1st place will go head-to-head for victory! (a plan to avoid any misunderstand should a tie situation occur)

What do you win?
  • Number one, props and recognition here at Namepros.
  • I will personally pay $20 JACKPOT (via PayPal) to the WINNER. (seed money for the Jackpot)
  • Anyone willing to contribute $1 or $2 to the Jackpot - contact me via PM - and I will add your contribution on top of the $20 Jackpot that I have committed to (let's see how large a Jackpot we can build).

* The JACKPOT is now at $90 Total

I'm not sure if battle rounds are the right way to do it. Some people may not be here for a few days or may miss the thread. My recent post had 7 likes but only received 4 votes in the battle round for example. I take it perhaps those people either missed the battle round or were away for a few days.

In saying that please keep up the good work you're doing!

@Dave -

Your point is consistent with what I have observed (behind the scenes).

The March contest was me trying to find unique ways to engage the participants and I was trying a variety of different approaches & strategies (somewhat winging it at times) to see what flew and what fell flat during that month. It was a blending of entertainment and trial balloons to see what captured interest, and what flopped. I do think the adding of photos and clickable images helped drive more imagination.

The April contest was an idea (concept) I had about trying a Winner of Winners contest (what I call a "2 tier winning" model). The idea was inspired one night in March while watching a "Champion of Champions" Jeopardy match on TV.

To be honest... while it's been a bit more labor intensive than I had originally anticipated... it also has been extremely interesting observing audience reaction & engagement on NP to the model and various pings used to drive interaction - the past 60 days has certainly been a fascinating study of "Gaming Dynamics" and quite insightful to see the waves (rise & fall off) with various ping / posting activity..

Over the past 60 days I have been contemplating (brainstorming) on ways we could leverage NP Contests to help NP members sell their domains - by blending entertainment & crowd sourcing with buyer behavior. So far what I've come up with (as has SquadHelp with their model) is utilizing gaming as a "curation process". And the April "Battle Rounds" has been a good litmus test / pilot test as a curation model. It has been fascinating to see how "perceived value" for a domain jumps once someone wins a Battle Round or receives a lot of "Likes".. So then my thought becomes, how do we leverage that model to help others sell their domains?

Like you, I too have been observing / tracking the flow of "Likes" and poll voting outcomes. The two models are not a perfect "parallel universe" but certainly there is a gravitation towards similar results.

Overall - I think it's been good to pilot test a few new ideas, capture some data, and see how it plays out over the past couple months.

My conclusion - the field of investing and selling is competitive by nature - and gaming (competition) provides the opportunity for the feeling of success which then justifies what is sometimes an emotional (subjective) purchase. That dynamic can be applied to domain selling techniques - if properly applied. (at least that's my theory) :xf.wink:

-Cougar

ps: Over the past 60 days I've met a lot of bright individuals while facilitating the 2 contests. I haven't been able to figure out a way to harness gaming dynamics to build a sales channel or sales funnel to draw in a buyer pool (yet). Maybe someone I met over the past 2 months will be the one to do so in time. If so, congrats! I think there is an opportunity here to drive sales, but not sure how to do so yet.

I sure appreciate all the thought and effort you have put into our April contest, Cougar. I agree with you and @Dave that the battle rounds might not be the best strategy for the competition. As the month progressed, it became hard to remember which rounds had been voted in, etc.

It has been great to see so much member participation in the contest and a pleasure to see the creative names everyone has come up with. I think it's been a boost for us all!

Thank you for your detailed response. I've unfortunately only had time to skim over it but I will write a more detailed reply of my own later.

Thanks for your efforts

@Dave Thanks for the comment and @BrandCougar thanks for the reply because they inspired me to ponder on this enough to find a cool domain with ONLY About 2,270,000 results :)

First off, BrandCougar, I truly admire the herculean efforts put forth in your April contests.

As one who voted I believe in all 18 April competitions to date, I can't imagine the time and thought you put into the April event!

Second, should there, could there be a voting system / contest/ battleground, that has more names per
contest thus less contests overall?

As a conscientious voter it is nevertheless a bit of a challenge to keep up with the many contests and their respective closing dates.

Third thought, would a " standardized contest starting / ending " set of days make participation for both contestants and voters easier.

For hypothetical example, all new reg entries submitted between Monday - Friday to be voted upon on
Sat and Sun, or the like, to make the voting period more predictable?

Well meant thoughts and best wishes as you go forward!
