Do you still sell domains which are under 60 day transfer lock? How do you mention this? A domainer would understand but an enduser?

Do you feel they don't understand? Do you have to hold their hand and tell them they need to create a account at said registrar? What if they don't want to.

Interested in your experiences with this.

Thanks all.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Explain them the process, rules of domain registration, locks by giving references. When they understand it, we ask them to create account at respective registrar and receive the domain name. And when lock period passed, we help them transfer where ever they want to.

Most will understand this.

Understood. It makes sense to me as well.

So do you tell them upfront that it's in lock (and maybe potentially scare them away) or you just explain it to them afterward.

If i were an enduser i personally wouldn't care i guess, it's not like most understand what a lock is.

All you have to mention, once a deal is struck, is you will have to push the name at blah registrar.

If they ask further you can tell them the day it’s able to leave the registrar. In most cases, domains sell after that 60 days so it’s not something to worry about much.

I recently sold 1 domain within the lock period and I asked buyer to wait till day lock is over and then I will push it or give auth code.

You don't have worry about this. :)

Well, that's why I loved undeveloped,com

I could sail any name under 60 days, and they would ask me if I wanted push or transfer. It was as simple as that! It wasn't the buyer that decided, it was me. And Undeveloped.com did all the explaining.

But now even undeveloped is asking for transfer codes if after 60 days for weird registrars. It's only a matter of time before they start asking sellers to wait out the 60...

Personally I wait until after the 60 Days to put my newer domains up for sale. This also gives me an opportunity to park them and see if I can generate some good passive income.

Recently my sale got cancelled due to this 60-day lock issue at Undeveloped.

Buyer asked to refund and Undeveloped had to do that.

Even push can't be done as DirectNic has a rule of 60 day waiting period before pushing the domain.

Use Sedo escrow...
They don't cancel any paid transactions even if 60 days lock.

@gabwnna

1.) As mentioned above Namesilo, Dynadot, GoDaddy, Name Bright, Epik and most decent registrars allow you to push to another account within 60 days
2.) Generally yes

And ever no?

Yes I have had domains that I was able to transfer out straight away and others that I have had to wait longer. I think 90-120 days was the longest I have had to wait. 60 is the standard.
