Hey Folks,

We all know .com is King but still if you get a chance to invest in .Net Extension, What will be Plan to Buy .Net Names.

Will, you buy EMD Domains, 1 Word Domains, Keyword Domains, Brandables?

Let me know your thoughts on this. I am quite new in domaining and happy to learn from you all.

I will only search and buy .net that are either:

1. One-word dictionary names (that are taken in many other extensions)
2. LL, LLL and really popular LLLL combinations
3. NN, NNN, NNNN

I've had some success registering short, two-word brand names in .net and selling them in the 400-750 range. They need to be very strong and widely used in many extensions and iterations, though, in order to give yourself the best chance at a sale. Tech names are probably best to focus on here (I've had the most success with the keyword "cloud").

Cloud/Nation
Wash/World
Design/Lounge
Cloud/Native
Cloud/Atlas
Drone/Map

That being said, I probably won't be focusing attention here anymore, and will not be renewing most of the ones I have. The profit margins are too thin, especially considering you need to keep prices under 1K and renewal fees for .net names are higher than .com.

In my entire portfolio I only have one .net (Freekick.net) and I don't plan to add anymore.

I have few .net's in my portfolio (they make under 6% of my portfolio)

Most of them are usually 1 or 2 words max actual keywords (most related to tech or innovative niches) plus they need to be taken in other extensions too

Another category that I think is worth looking are shorter names LL,LLL,LLLL, NN, NNN or NNNN

Despite all the general info, each domain needs individual assessment, so always use your good judgment before making any investments.

As per my experience, this is the way to go if you plan to take on .net on a greater scale. Additionally, you'd want to play with a good volume of domains to be able to turn the numbers in your favour. Or else, as rightly said above, the margins are too thin to stick to a smaller portfolio, considering majorly 3 figure sales here.

In the distant past we usually acquired EMDs in the .net if we had that EMD name in king - though only for a reg fee.

Believe we also acquired several .net name many years ago, without having the same in the king and as I recall, never moved a net out of the portfolio except by delete.

In the past dozen or so years have not, I believe, purchased or considered a net name.

With that said about me, if you have a sound strategy and believe in a .net domain, go for it and give it your best effort.
