We are always looking at reported sales to analyze data. We often hear others encourage domain sales to be reported to assist in our decision making. It's very common for advice to be based on reported domain sales. No doubt, reported sales are an important part of domain investing.

So how many domain sales go unreported?

For every one domain sale that is reported, how many go unreported?

Is there a known common percentage of domain sales that go unreported?

Any thoughts?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The unreported sales of .APP in mainland China vs reported on Namebio is less than 0.2%, hence I give and take it is about right for all extensions together since that's counting from mainland China alone only.

By the way, recently sold Bao.App and Yun.App for high 4 figures each. Reported on Namebio.

90% or more of the domain sales are between resellers and IMO these should not be reported! only sales to end users should be reported. The problem is that most reported sales in aftermarket (GD, Namejet..and others) are between resellers, and that few end user sales are reported because many of them are private (outbound for example).

So sales data we have now (like in Namebio for example) are mostly skewed data that are corrupted by number of reported seller to seller sales.

.IN has a large %(relative to other extensions) of private sales. I believe its at least partly cultural- some end users value privacy and dont want the world knowing how much they paid for domain(s).

This is why i believe, for us investors, the more important investment sign is lack of supply not presence of reported sales.

I saw elsewhere that almost the entire domain sales in China are unreported. And they sell pretty much domains in that region.
Domain sales are reported, for example, on Weston.cn

Wrong website, you mean West.cn, thats not what we were talking about, reported within Chinese domain media != reported in mainstream Western domain media. Aka Namebio, DNJournal...etc.
