advice Please Don't Contact Potential Buyers Like This!

I'm sure others have received messages like this in various places. I blanked out the name and email for privacy, that way (Since they might be a member here) they can anonymously receive constructive criticism without being publicly flogged by anyone.

If there is one thing my toddler taught me at his 3 years of age, it's "Always ask why and keep asking until they tell you or they walk away"! lol... Ya, picture a 3 year old asking why over and over a few times, then look at the screenshot:
interested-in-what.png

They never responded again.

Tip: If you can't give a brief overview of the reason you are contacting someone, wait until you can give a reason, instead of blankly tossing out phrases like "Very Important", "If interest contact me" or even "Please contact me".

Note: We were already in contact, in real time actually.

Opinion: If you are shy and email works better for you, just be honest about it, but also include a reason for me to want to contact you via email.

Assumption: I'm assuming it was domain related since they might be a member and show most interests in domain related events, groups, and memberships. Regardless what the end-message was they wanted to deliver, they lost the opportunity for beating around the bush and not being more outgoing and proactive in their initial contact.

At any rate. I just wanted to point out 1 way NOT to contact people to see if they will buy one of your domain assets.

Hmmmn .. but now you will never know if they wanted to hire you for consulting work at $10,000 an hour!?

Sorry Eric .. but the fault is on you ... now you will lose hours and hours of sleep left wondering what could have been ???

Worse than that .. now you have cursed the rest of us in the community to lose hours of sleep out of the frustration of never knowing what might have been?

In fact .. maybe they just won the lottery and wanted permission to buy thousands of domains from members at 50x acquisition costs! Eric .. you have "potentially" cost the community millions! :(

PS .. Please contact me ASAP .. it's very important! ;)

"contact me to this email.." doesn't even sound English.

"cursed the community" - voodoo?
Some people are very keen to waste time, they don't realize that making some kind of deal means not wasting a second. If it looks like a duck - quack!

Wow .. I seriously suggest you at least waste a little bit of time in your life to recognise and appreciate sarcasm instead of "disliking" it! Particularly since you seem to have had enough time to research the sound a duck makes! ;)

My neighbors have ducks, they hang out with chicken all the time. I heard ducks 100's times, I seen all kinds including black ones.

I once rescued a baby duck from a parking lot .. usually you're never supposed to remove ducks from where they are as almost every time the parents are nearby hiding from you. The exception is obviously imminent danger, and it's sibling was killed by a bus, and then after searching with a few others for a while to see if the parents were around, eventually brought the little guy home to do some research on what to do.

I called him Quack .. and Quack quacked like a duck!

I ended up calling a place where they take them out of the city to a more appropriate area.

PS .. Don't feed ducks bread products .. it's bad for them as their digestive systems differ from birds (leafy greens are best for ducks, although in theory you should NEVER feed them anything)! In fact .. nobody should EVER feed animals unless it's a pet PERMANENTLY LIVING in your house!

Anyhow .. back on topic .. this duck discussion only distracted me for a couple of minutes ... @Eric Lyon .. I still want to know what the user wanted to talk to you about !?

They still haven't responded. Doubt they will. If they do, I may find other ways to ask why, depending on their response. Or, I may just politely decline further communication and possibly remove them from the connections list (If applicable).

;)

Oh I needed this laugh after the couple of weeks I've had. Thanks so much for it!! I've lost enough sleep though, so I think I'll pass on staying awake worryng about what could have been if that 3 year old had been answered (because he sure did sound 3 years old to me! ...well, except for that knowing how to type and post in real time stuff).

Hmmmn .. curious why you say the person in question is a "he"? It could just as easily be a female ... or maybe even a duck typing with their webbed feet (would explain the poor results) ... and possibly even a female duck !? ;)

No one serious would contact you this way. Probably fishing for your email to spam you later.

What app was that anyway?

You might be right. That was on LinkedIn.

I'm pretty sure Eric was trying to make a serious point with this thread. :xf.rolleyes:

I actually thought he was just joking around from the start and was more him blowing off steam effectively inviting the rest of us to share our frustrations. There is no discussion or debate here, as it should be 100% obvious to anybody who has the social graces to be a respectful member of a forum like NamePros, that "contact" like Eric mentioned is frustrating to receive and makes the sender look like a scammer .. figured the thread was sarcastic in nature as the only people who could ever benefit or grow from this thread, aren't the type to even read (or understand) beyond the first line anyways ... :xf.confused:

It's the same type of people who start 20 threads (without using the search function first) asking questions answered 10+ times each already. (Plus .. as sexists and speciesist as it makes me sound .. female ducks are notorious for such behavior ... in fact .. it might possibly even be a female duckbot)

This may be a scam to harvest your contact information and sell it. Responding of any kind may allow the other party see your full contact info such as email and phone number.

This is why I am very picky who I accept into my network on LinkedIn. For example, if they don't have a personal and/or business website (that resolve), among other things, I don't accept them. "Among other things" includes a number of other criteria, such as their position, I look for before accepting an invitation.

Because there's no doubt that guy domainers way out number the domainers, at least in here.

@Eric Lyon, now you made some of us spend hours trying to analyze that profile photo.

Redaction removal machine urgently needed :xf.cool:

I once bought 4 colored baby ducks. Once I put all of them to sleep in my room where ac was on. And from the next day they started making sounds daily at the night asking me to take them inside the room with ac. We don't understand animals properly. They do understand us much more than we do.
Yes bread products are not healthy for them. My 4 mates liked citrus limetta a lot...

There is a round of SPAM going around lately that asks "if I have your correct email" or some such, also asking you to email him back to let him know.

After responding you'll no doubt be informed that you've inherited some thirty million dollars but need to cough up transfer fees in advance.

Some people don’t like dm because content can be monitor/access.

I did reply, I gave them 3 opportunities to provide a reason why i should send an email when we were already engaged in live chat messaging. 😁 i mostly found it odd that they didn't seem to want to talk in real time, nor give a reason why. I was receptive, just not naive. 😁

It sounds to me that he was only interested in getting Eric's email for whatever reason, if he needed something really then he should have said what he wants in chat directly.

It seems like he had an important offer and you missed it now

I'm curious. Give me his email address :xf.grin:
