Atom marketplace (formerly Squadhelp Marketplace)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

@GrantP Is squadhelp overwhelmed? I have 2 domain with the status of "ready to go live" since Saturday. 4 of my previous domains went live under hours.

One of the domain was submitted unregistered, it has been preapproved, I have accepted terms & yet the domain remains unregistered till now. I doubt I will get an apology should someone else register it

Please what is the average time for a domain to be approved? (For already registered domain & unregistered)

What is the average time it takes for an approved domain to go live

If they are, they should just freeze everything until they catch up. If they keep taking names, but getting deeper into a mess, it will hurt them.

Do the logos for approved domains, and then accept new ones. You're not going anywhere if you freeze and people like you, but if you screw up, there will be someone else to take over. Other branding sites are waking up and realizing they dropped the ball. If SH starts to screw up, it will let the old established branding sites regain footing and beat them.

Thank you all for your feedback. We are indeed receiving a significantly high number of submissions (more than 1000 per day). Despite this high number of submissions, our acceptance rate continues to be about 7 to 8% (we are only approving about 70-80 names per day).

We are in the process of ramping up our team further so that we can continue to review the submissions in a timely fashion. We will also be adding additional restrictions on how many names can be submitted by individuals at the same time. At this point we do not plan to charge any fees for sellers to submit names, but we will certainly add more limits based upon your current approval rate.

Here are our typical timelines:

* Review of names (from when they are submitted): 3-5 business days (our goal is to review most names within 1-2 business days).

* Go live (after approval): 1-2 business days (names typically go live on the following business day of approval).

* Logo Design after approval: 2-4 Weeks. We recognize that this is a long time, and we are working on ramping up the team to cut this time further.

We are excited about the growth of the marketplace, however we also recognize that extended timelines for reviews and logos can be extremely frustrating. We are investing in the right resources and additional platform features so that we can continue to offer a best in class experience for everyone.

What would be great is a spot within our dashboard where we can see recent sales along with their prices (maybe a list with dates?). Currently I see the recently sold names but have to click on each logo to see the price and not all of them work, some just redirect me to the marketplace.

They have done this.

They have done this.

Where within the dashboard is it? I see "featured sales" which rotate through and only show the name and price. Also see the "recently sold" names with the logos but no prices or dates. I have to click on the logo to see the price and not all of them direct me to the sold page.
Where is there a list showing the name, price & date sold?

The price sold is new as this wasn't there before...

Just submitted my first batch of domains to SH and had 1/10 accepted for premium. Surprisingly it was the one I thought was worst of the 10. Hah we'll see how it goes. For what it's worth they do seem to have the lowest acceptance rate at only 8%.

Why didnt I get an email notification when my submittions were rejected? Do I need to visit the site everyday to see if my submittions were approved or not?

Have to admit, my experience so far has been absolutely seamless with SH. Small sample size, but my domains were either approved/rejected within hours of submission, approved domains were live on the website and already for sale in less than 12 hours from initial submission. Logo isn't done yet, but the page looks very professional without it and they put a nice temporary typography logo up in the meantime.

I also contacted support with portfolio samples to apply for logo design contests, heard back from them within an hour, and was fully approved overnight.

For me, no other marketplace even comes close to SH so far on speed, professionalism, and quality. It's amazing to me how they produce all of this in such a short amount of time and makes me wonder how other marketplaces, including brandbucket, lag so far behind.

If your domain approved, you will get notification email but if it not you won't received anything.

You were just lucky.

This has not been my experience.

I tried SH because I read good things about them here.

There are many issues they need to work on.

Still giving it a chance and I hope things improve soon.

I think improving their tracking of rejected names should be something to focus on this year.

Yes, I thought the same thing.

I don't know who is in charge of approving submissions, but

there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

I think it just depends on the mood of the person who is

doing the selecting at the time.

Looking in my marketplace portfolio, I see one of my domains has a little fire icon and if I hover over it a popup says "Top 10% Rank in Marketplace". But the domain doesnt seem to be getting many views compared to my other names and only has 1 shortlist, unlike many of my others that have 5 or 6.

What does "Top 10% Rank in Marketplace" mean considering the low views/shortlists ? Can I see how or why this domain is coming up with this ranking ?

Yep, that's the mystery we've all been trying to solve :) Someone asked it on the forum of Squadhelp and the answer was that the formula of determinating "Top 10% Rank in Marketplace" has a lot of variables and shortlists and views are just a few of them and of course they can't disclose the others :)

Another interesting thing is that sometimes when you go to a landing page of a domain name (i.e. edgehive.com) you see a note "STRONG BUYER INTEREST: At least 6 potential buyers viewed or shortlisted this domain recently." But that does NOT always correlate with the "Top 10% Rank in Marketplace". Some of my domain names that are marked with a fire icon don't have this strong buyer interest note while others that have are not marked with the fire icon.

Out of 6 sales I had within the last 6 months, 4 were marked with the fire icon at the time they were bought.
On the other hand, I constantly have 10 - 20 domain names marked with the fire icon and usually, it means nothing.

So yeah, it's a head-scratcher.
