When is SPAM actually useful?

When it reminds you of all the great domain names you have, names acquired so long ago that you forgot you even had them.

On some days I receive about fifteen of these. I report some to SPAMCOP.net , mark all as spam/junk , but in the process, I flip by the names and in some cases think, Damn! that's a good name. I should do some marketing on it. Make a mental note.

Even those stupid SPAM emails that reverse the order of your own two word domain name or add a plural s to the name, and offer it for sale to you:

might jar your memory about a domain you own. "I own that one? That's a good name!"

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You don't need to report the email, considering it's coming from your fellow Domainer, no matter how amateur. Just ignore, delete, and move on.

Spam is also useful when their algorithms suggest similar domains that we own (free ofc) that we can regfee to cover more versions of the domain's keyword term :)

I just received another one of these SPAMs...for a less than great domain name of mine. Made a mental note, hmm, maybe not renew this one when the time comes!

I admit that I handregged a couple of domains promoted in "just the domain is for sale, no website" way... Since they all were pendingdeletes and naturally became available. Yes, sometimes spam may be useful

I've yet to receive any of the spam, which I could describe as useful :(

Useful when it comes in a can and stockpiled in your bunker during nuclear holocaust.

I stopped buying regularly but used to love when my past domain searches that were taken came up with email reminded to say now available.

I set up a SPAM filter at the ISP level to move anything with the subject "Final Notice" to the junk folder. I may still scan over the names quickly to be reminded of the domain names, and I still report one a day to SpamCop, but this makes it easier to delete them quickly.

I hesitate to set up any Spam Assassin or filter to delete immediately because sometimes something non-spam gets marked as spam.
