As a fan of new gTLDs, I frankly admit that I like to tease ".com" domainers but I often note that it then turns to "hate" so I wonder what is the reason for this. The number one reason why some people hate new gTLDs so much is - to me - that it hurts their business (and I totally understand this) but if this reason is wrong, then, what is it?

If brand is very old, successful and known everywhere - why to change it, what reason???

We are talking about majority of other existent and future endusers...
And as of now they have too much options to (re)name their business and usually for regfee or $X,XXX as max.

The best times for domaining are already in the past... in terms of high conversion and profitability...
And this is just the beginning... of the end...

I couldn't disagree more. The best times, they haven't started yet. Very little serious money interested in the domain market. You haven't seen nothin' yet! :xf.grin:

Not good.

Blockchain/.life sold for $81. :-/

In most cases you can not sell a bad combination of words in new gTLDs for good money.
Especially those that are available for hand-registration.

I saw this domain in the drop list but didn't register it even for $1.99

But you are lucky hand-registered it in April for $1.99 and sold next month for $81.

Good ROI !

Increased your investments forty times in a month. :) Congratulations!!!

There's no question as to whether or not people are beginning to use more non-.com domain extensions.

The extension .com will always be the most popular in my opinion, however with the rise of a lot of tech companies using .ai or .io domains, or even country codes being used as URL shorteners (like calend.ly or no_url_shorteners or at one point, instagr.am), more and more people will continue to use other TLDs.

I have access to web analytics to this page (.ai domains) and I can tell you, the amount of people searching for .ai domains has increased dramatically over the last few years.

The same is true for this .io domain blog post which ranks for page 1 in Google. Take a look at search volume for .io domains vs other domains with the highest search volume over the last three months:

Query Impressions
.io domain
53,395

.com domain
43,513

free domain
29,680

.dev domain
27,992

io domain
22,998

dev domain
18,616

com domain
13,002

.co.in domain
12,174

.ai domain
12,109

.io domains is actually being searched for more than .com domains, however .com is still selling more because it's what most people are looking to buy when the Google "buy domains."

Hope this was helpful.

Things will become quite interesting if someone can compare .com sales vs gTLD's sales.

I do check namebio.com regularly, however, most of the sales are .com in secondary market.

So, do people trust .com more or do they upgrade from other gTLD's to .com ?

How does this help new tld which people do not use? Country code always popular, used to be .ly and .me, now .co and .io.

There's no question as to whether or not people are beginning to use more non-.com domain extensions.
Usage of new gTLDs is not universal. Some NGTs are dead zones. Others are filled with webspam and advertising with minimal usage. The NGTs seeing usage (apart from XYZ which resembles .BIZ in terms of usage) are closer in dynamics to ccTLDs than gTLDs.

Two major events are going to happen in the next few months. The first is the .APP renewal anniversary. A poor renewal rate ( circa 50%) will be bad for the NGT and will dent Google's pride. The second is that approximately a million domain names in the ex-Famous Four NGTs (.LOAN etc) will be deleted unless the registry resumes discounting.

The NGTs are quite geographically defined in that they follow the market dynamics of their dominant market and a few are extremely price sensitive.

Regards...jmcc
