Hi Everyone,
I am not in domain business for a long time and now I would like to see, after .com, what is the best domain extension? .co or .io ??? I mean for domain investor.
Thank you for your sharing

.co .io is only for high premium words and specially if you want to invest in .io than better stick with only tech premium words. Only 1 word domains are recommended as well.

Personally I'd go for .co after .com, considering it's available before exploring .io. This is for general cases but there may be very few instances I'd consider .io before .co.

I think there is not a simple answer, it depends on where you are and the area of specialization.
  • In many parts of the world the country code is the first choice.
  • In general, I would say .org is next.
  • For tech startups probably .io (mainly single word)
  • For artificial intelligence startups, possibly .ai (but only AI related)
  • For companies with some sort of network, possibly still .net
  • For companies that can't afford .com in general, probably .com
  • In a few cases one of the new gTLD may be best.

I just compared recent .net sales to .co sales on Namebio. It looks like .net still has .co by a small margin. It also appears to me that .co might be better than .net for one-word names, a la .io.

I'm not advocating .net, but why isn't there more consideration for .net on NP given the sales trends?

Avoid .co like the plague in my opinion

As a seasoned domainer, I’d rarely opt for .co. It’s better to go with .org, .io, maybe even .tv...before .co imo.

1. com
2. .org
3. .io
4. New tld's that go well with one word domain

Overall .com is still king and will be.

After dot com I generally preferred dot Org

Just a quick analysis from Namebio. Not a very accurate representation for OP's question due to a lot of missing variables, but could give a rough indication

The number of sales in the last 365 days from each extensions on all platforms

And if we exclude all the auction houses, and backorder platforms:

(Sedo, Private, Afternic, BuyDomains, Uniregistry) so more or less* retail only

.io and .co changes positions due to the fact that park.io is out of the equation.

More or less: I know that end users are also participating on auctions, and probably even backorder names, but this was the only way I could exclude investor sales out of this rather simple analysis.

Point is .org is second, .net is third.

A Namepros research is in the works too.

Take care regarding .io - watch the news about Brexit and control of the extension being thwarted...

I think namebio is not a complete overview of all sell transactions.. e.g. undeveloped as marketplace is not listed ;)

i think that .io does not compete with .com .net .org

I think that even though .com is dominating all TLD's are good when you find best name for it, as it is now common to redirect co.uk, .co ant other local TLD's to .com or brands are simply translating their websites.

.CO one or two N/L
.IO one or two N/L

That is it
