Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here

I suggest a new thread titled Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here. Then we can all list our issues so Afternic have to fix them. These Afternic probs have been repeatedly flagged up across numerous threads on here over a period of time, including the need for 2FA. Godaddy own Afternic and have the resources and motivation to fix it - this risky mess is unacceptable and reflects badly on their brand.

For info, Afternic keep reverting some of my domains to "In Review" status for no reason, and I only know that if I log in there to check on them. Until I then ask support to take them out of Review they are not listed for sale and will not sell at Afternic.

@Joe Styler When can we expect Godaddy to take action on Afternic, including implementing 2FA?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
It's easy to fix the parking lander (if you put name servers to afternic, there is no way to add that TXT record!)

A) Publish official IP address for parking for each afternic user, eg
54.208.77.124
B) Users can then set the TXT record, and the "A" record to IP address in (A) above.

or
C) Do as Bodis do, and provide a specific nameserver. This is unique per bodis user.
Name Server: 193.NS1.ABOVE.COM
Name Server: 193.NS2.ABOVE.COM

@Joe Styler,I sold a name through your afternic network since March 6th.Buyer is already using name and afternic has yet to send me my funds.

What kind of service are they offering ?6th of March till date and no payment? They can keep their apologies, just my fund is what matters if buyer is already live on the domain.

It's a shame they think this is no big deal.I have made my decisions about afternic after this .

Curious if you updated your payout info (with the recent change they had.)

This could have affected payout.

That is likely the issue but hard to say for sure without an account or domain. Contacting the support team should resolve this fairly quickly they can see the account and the history and tell him exactly what is needed.

Joe, Is there any news on when a payout threshold will be available for use please on International Wire payments? eg at present if we sold 3 names, we'd pay $78. I've asked a few times with our contacts, but would be great to know for sure!

I'd rather just pay the $26 and have one payment, when it hits a certain number like Bodis, CJ and other traffic businesses do.

I updated and waited and got nothing.I was even expecting them to reply my emails if there was an issue and got none .This morning, I called my Godaddy account exec and told him my mind about afternic. Why do they sit down and not reply is there was an issue?I sold a name and I emailed them countless times and I told him, I was changing payments now and he had to walk across to afternic and figure out from them.
I am using PayPal so I can get my money fast as long as I dont get charged more than 10cents I told him.

Once I an done with this payments ,all names listed with Bin will be taking off and they have to work to get their commission.

They claim to have the largest this and that but cant update their payout so sellers dont have to wait for another 8 to 10 days, while the buyer is already using purchased domain.Who does that in this new era.Sedo closed a sale and I got my payment and didnt have to wait 8 days like afternic .

I have made my decision after this.

I'm having the same issue as @alcy where I don't get all the emails for price requests. I only found out because I'd get one email for a price request, log in, then see a bunch of other price requests from days/weeks ago that I never knew happened!

Price requests rarely result in sails, but I mean... I still would've loved to have taken the chance...

I will look into it. I know we do not have a way to do it now but what you are asking makes sense.

I am sorry you didn't get an answer. If you email [email protected] those emails are tracked and also the response times can be checked unless they are getting filtered to the junk mail folder or for security etc I can't think of why you would not get a response.
The payment changes were made in part for us to implement some other changes on the Afternic side in the future which will significantly speed up payments. On GoDaddy we implemented these changes and are able to pay people within hours in many cases of the domain selling instead of days as before. This is the eventual plan for AN as well.

Thanks for your update. Just received my fund today and it was a bad experience having to wait and getting no reply back from [email protected] From this experience, they have to work harder if they are taking 20% and ignoring emails.

Lots of people say that price quotes are a joke.. OK.. but I find one every time I sign into Afternic although I don't receive any notification. Has any of you ever received an email for price quotes?

It's hit and miss, this year with my Afternic sales some have fast transferred correctly but two have not.

It's also an ongoing struggle just to get a domain listed for Fast Transfer at DynaDot - sometimes right after I set the BIN on the Afternic side the ability to click to accept the Fast Transfer status appears automatically at DynaDot, and other times I must message Afternic support and wait for them to enable it manually.

It has gotten to where the instant I set a BIN on a domain at Afternic, I go ahead and send a message to Afternic support requesting the Fast Transfer status for that domain, just to be safe. A real waste of time.
Been struggling with this on and off for two years - that setting the domain BIN at Afternic sometimes kicks in automatically the opt-in to the premium / fast transfer status listing where the domain is registered (in my case, at DynaDot) and in other cases requires my having to message Afternic support to get them to move it to premium / fast transfer status manually.

After some back and forth with my account manager at Afternic a suggestion was made to reupload all my domains assigning them the status of “3” (which apparently was not assigned previously):

<<Thank you for contacting Afternic support. Your issue is that all of your domain are listed on the standard network directly and anytime you decide add a buynow price to one of your domains it doesn't automatically move it to the Fast-Transfer network, that is why you have to reach out to us. You may wish to have your portfolio exported and reuploaded after changing the listing status for all domains to a 3 to address this issue.>>

Apparently, the listing status 3 is the appropriate status to put on an upload sheet if you’re doing a bulk addition or price update via excel sheet.

I’m still not 100% clear on what this status 3 meant or why or how my domains weren’t in that status before, but my Afternic account rep was kind enough to handle the update to status 3 at his end and suddenly five domains of mine with the BIN set some time ago quickly updated to prompt me at DynaDot to opt-in to the Afternic premium network.

So anyway if you’re still encountering this issue of opt-in for premium listing / fast transfer not kicking in automatically for your BIN priced Afternic domains, perhaps this “status 3” is what is missing.

Must be this (copypasting a line from the csv file template I use to upload domains in bulk):

somedomain.com,10000,10000,10000,10000,Reference,General,,"",,3,1,DEFAULT

This would make somedomain.com being listed with fast transfer enabled, fixed bin of 10K, all floor and min. offers etc. being also 10K, Reference+General category. Subject to fast transfer approval on registrar end.

File upload works more or less stable recently, sometimes I need to wait ~1 hour to have it processed.

Due to afternic bug or whatever, large files are not processed at all or processed partially. It is better to split csv files - making them 50 lines/domains or less each.

Also, if there is a conflict (one or more domains already listed by somebody else) - then the system would not process the whole csv file. Another afternic bug...

@Joe Styler, still can not understand why payments are made after buyer receives the name.
As we push the name to afternic's account at the registrar where name is, Afternic has the control, so payment should be released like sedo does.
We sold a name 8 days ago, buyer paid, looked at whois today and not only transfer is not initiated but name has transfer lock so can not be initiated.

It's obvious, Afternic want to know domain has been delivered. They don't want to get stuck holding, custodian and renewing a domain for year(s). Better to wait for buyer to open their registrar account and complete the transfer.

What you say of course has a point, on the other hand why after 8 days name is not even unlocked for a transfer. If buyer is nto responsive or can not understand how to make the transfer and he will do it after 6 months it is not seller's problem.

An "unresponsive buyer" is a frequent problem. We have the same every year. You might be amazed how many people pay for products and don't complete receipt of the product?

That is true but we are looking at ways to "force" them to accept it and pay sooner. On the GoDaddy auctions we have implemented this and are able to take control of the domain and then pay the seller. There are still checks involved for fraud etc, but you can be paid in as short as an hour after the sale now on Godaddy Auctions sales. We are working on implementing similar things on the Afternic side but it will likely not be till the end of the year or so.

@Joe Styler

Suggestion for Afternic:

If some domain has a fixed BIN (with a pricing setup BuyNow = Floor = Reserve = Min. Offer), then the system should _NOT_ offer an opportunity to submit an offer on it at all. It serves no purpose.
But, exactly this currently happens on www .afternic .com / domain / domainname .com with BIN domains.

Issue I have experienced:

Somebody made an "offer" on such a BIN domain I listed for sale. He or she "offered" BIN price exactly.
Why and what for? I do not know. OK, I accepted their offer. The buyer never finished the purchase, and I still see their offer in Offers Received / Accepted section each time I log into Afternic... right on the first page.

So, I asked service @ afternic to cancel these "negotitations". First e-mail was sent on 28 Dec 2018.
They never responded. Second e-mail was sent on 25 Mar 2019. I am still patiently waiting for a response...

I'm now performing routine periodic price increase, but, with these "negotiations" being still open, I will still be formally obliged to sell this domain @ old price to this lead ... forever it seems.

Why both emails were ignored?

As per afternic terms:

"Either party to a transaction may cancel the transaction if the other party of a transaction delays the transaction more than ten (10) business days provided that the canceling party gives five (5) business days notice and the cancellation does not become effective if the cause of the delay is resolved within five (5) business days. This cancellation notice cannot be given unless there is a ten (10) day delay by the other party."

Shortly: the buyer delayed the transaction more than ten (10) business days. In accordance with official terms, the seller now wishes to cancel the transaction. Afternic service@ does not help (2 emails - no responses).

P.S. Joe, maybe you can cancel it from your end? I can send you PM with the domain in question

Thank you for reply but this is not the case.
Buyer paid from first moment, we pushed the name at afternic's dynadot account same day,now after 13 days i see name is still locked at afternic's dynadot account (client_transfer_prohibited) so i wonder how buyer will get the name at his registrar (as if was push would be from first moment).
So if buyer does not get the game at next year? you will renew it?

Normal for payouts to be 7+ days even with FT still? Last 2 names I sold recently were sent to buyer and I had to bug AN for payouts, still waiting on one of them. Buyers both have websites built on the names as well and this isn't a million dollar sale :xf.laugh: so what's the hold up?

If someone sends afternic an email, reply with a ticket number that can be followed up. Getting follow up support from afternic is like flipping a coin, 50/50 chance of a reply. Add a $15 an hour intern who can respond to basic stuff, 1 employee can make a world of difference in follow up support.

It is hard to say without knowing the domain what is happening.

It is normal enough to be 7-10 days for a payment. If the buyers have control of the domain then normally the payment is sent. It may take 2-3 days for the money to hit your account after we pay. If you tell me the domain I can have someone take a look at it.
