Over the last couple of days, I've taken part in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on NamePros. It's been an interesting experience that has produced a couple of challenging questions as well as a few fun ones! One of the main talking points seems to have been my prediction that rental names (with no buy out clause at the end of the term) will become more commonplace. Do you agree with this opinion?

Here are this week's Top Topics.

April's Hand-Reg Contest

There have been several competitions recently to challenge investors to register the best available domain name. These monthly competitions, run by other domainers, rely on user votes to choose the winner at the end of the month. March's winner was a .COM domain name, "SundayHike".

In this discussion, the April hand-registration competition has started, with the winner gaining a $20 prize at the end of the month. What's the best name that you can register this month?

Will There Ever Be a 9 Figure Sale?

According to NameBio, there have been one hundred and fourteen domain sales of between $1 million and $10 million with only Sex.com listed as selling for more than that. There are, of course, likely to be far more sales at this level since most sales go undocumented.

Domains such as Crypto.com have reportedly sold for eight-figure fees, but will a nine-figure sale ever occur? That's the question being asked in this discussion. The closest we have is LasVegas.com, which is a deal worth a reported $90 million over thirty-five years.

The Story of Onions.com

After the sale of the Onions.com domain name on Flippa for a reported $18,501 in June 2017, an investor noticed that the name was resold this week for $14,810, resulting in a near $4,000 loss in under two years.

Interestingly, the buyer of the name for a reported $14,810.00, Peter Askew (@eightturn), shared some details of how he came to own the name for under $15,000.

My New Blog

George Kirikos (@GeorgeK) is a name that many investors will have come across at some point. Aside from owning a supreme portfolio of .COM names, George has uncovered a number of previously undisclosed sales including the $2.1 million sale of Vivo.com.

This week, George opened a new discussion to let investors know that he has launched his own blog, where he has recently documented ICANN's threats to restrict his participation rights. A very worrying move from ICANN.
