I want to renew a .org domain for the next 9 years. The domain is currently at Godaddy and is using Godaddy's nameserver service (DOMAINCONTROL.COM).

Godaddy want to charge me over $20 per year for renewing the domain. And (unless you know better), I won;t get a discount on that.

Is there a reliable registrar that offers cheap .org renewals and that will allow me to easily migrate my nameserver settings? Can I use cloudflare to automatically keep the nameserver settings?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Renewals are where registrars make their money. The low initial reg fees get you in the door, many will sell at, close to or below their wholesale price. But the renewals are where the profits come in (that and other services like hosting, etc.)

As far as renewal pricing goes, you can get lower pricing for .org. at namecheap, namesilo and dynadot. The first year might be discounted since it is a transfer, but all subsequent years are usually charged at full price.

Prices below are without any transfer discounts (if available), just full price/renewal price.

Namecheap - 14.98/yr
NameSilo - 10.97/yr - NP1OFF code gets you $1 off if you're not already a NS customer.
DynaDot - $10.99/yr

So basically with DD and NS you are almost getting .org for half the price of GD, almost.

I and many others here at NP have used all 3 and have no problem with them, all ICANN accredited and been around for a while. Of course, many will like one and not the other and some say GD is the ONLY way to fly.

But you have to do your own research and make your own decisions.

@namethreads.com as EbookLover said above, your best bet is to move it to namesilo.com, cheapest in the market.

Also you will get .COM renewals at $8.99.

Transfer to LCN is the best deal ATM: $6.49 for 1st year for both .com's and .org's. But you'll need to remember to transfer out before the year is out as they charge $18+ for renewals. This is a good deal if you have many domains under management, especially so for .org's.

With only one domain, I'd go with Namesilo, Epik or Dynadot, each charging $10 with some change per year for .org's.

Epik
offers to renew domains... forever, for $400 or so, which might be of interest to you. Plus Epik has the best customer support of them all, like 24/7 chat and Skype, too! Not to mention their CEO, @Rob Monster always ready to give a helping hand here at NP (y)

Disclaimer:

Epik may seem a controversial choice ATM due to Rob's strong, vocal religious and political views. I'm comfortable with this - I'm not offended, in fact I enjoy Rob's antics and don't see it impacting their reliability as a first rate registrar. But you may not be as comfortable with his views or the controversy.

I use Dynadot for 1st year promo regs only. With thousands of names in hand, I often renew very late, hence I'm not partial to their $10 late renewal fee! This aside, they are great. And renewing for 10 years, this should not be a problem for you
:xf.smile:

The wholesale price to the registrar is $9.93 + $0.18 I believe and clearly the registrars need some markup to cover their costs so the rates being offered by several registrars are very good. I believe that the registry for .org have abandoned rebates and promotions to registrars, or nearly so (I say this based on a DNW interview I listened to some months ago). Your decision to renew 10 years is smart.

Cloudflare don't add anything on to the whole sale price so their renewal price is $10.11 currently. Not the best as they don't do the offers other registrars do but at least if you forget to transfer out again you won't get stung.

Try Epik...send them a request for better pricing and let them know you are a member here to get best pricing...best wishes.

In order to solve my DNS settings issues, I set up a free account with cloudflare, who offer a free dns service that is very convenient to use-it automatically copies the current settings.

I have initiated a transfer to Fabulous who charge me $10.77 for .org registrations/transfers/renewals but I never knew cloudflare have a registrar. Their pricing is excellent. I may transfer it there before doing the muti-year renewals.

fabulous - now there's a registrar I haven't heard of in a long time. Used to use them a long time ago.

Im considering moving my names there too as the pricing is the best but I haven't read any reviews on their service yet (as the registrar is so new). Certainly seems worth a look though.

Use honey on Namecheap renewal. I usually get 10-20% off on renewal :)

Can I use cloudflare to automatically keep the nameserver settings?

Replace GD NS (domaincontrol) with CF NS (example.ns.cloudflare)
You don't need to replace your NS again as CF NS is one of the best NS and is free. Just change DNS records at CF when you need and keep CF NS.
CF has started to accept domain transfers like a registrar. Their transfer fees are very low. I don't know their renewal prices.
