Hi, i have a big concern and i really need answers. What are top strategies for selling domains? I have few ideas:
- Create a website a kind of personal business about selling domains) and have a landing page
-By domains from several registrars and try to sell them via the registrar
- Publish my sales in social media groups (Facebook, Linked in and Twitter)

Do you think it's enough? I'm waiting for your advices, especially those which would help finding end users.
Best,
Francis

I agree with you, I didnt mean 1 domain literally, I was just trying to illustrate a point.
Sure, I got that. I simply used it to illustrate a point of my own :xf.wink:
The correct approach is to invest in variety of domains, I prefer small portfolio under 50 of high quality domains.. easier to manage and easier to sell. but that is my own preference others may prefer larger or smaller portfolio.
I think this is the best approach for anyone starting out :xf.smile:

Except that the term "high quality domains" is very relative. It's an art, not an exact science. Neither is it rocket science, but it takes time to get it. That's not a major hurdle, provided you don't use that time learning the hard way. That's to say, pissing away big bucks for supposedly "high quality domains" that aren't worth much more than what you'd paid for them at auction! Hence my suggestion to newcomers to be weary of old PRO's advice to start out by investing $xxx in "high quality domains" only.

My advice is to spread that $xxx out and handreg or buy at auction many more "high quality domains". If one, or two, or ten of them don't sell or simply no longer feel like a good fit, simply let them expire and handreg or buy new ones. Rinse and repeat. It's a process. You can't rush it. And there's nothing wrong with letting go if you have (with time and experience) a new, usually better idea.

What's most important, is to have that great idea when handregging or buying at auction. Doing your homework, due diligence. If you're wrong, you're wrong. Cut your losses, learn from your mistake and go register better "good quality domains"! :xf.smile:

@Ostrados what a great answer! Thanks a lot for so much details. Franckly speaking, i started my journey as a domain investor buying espired domains, but on a french marketplace (Youdot, formerly domraider) i put one of them on Flippa but could not sell. After that i took courses on Udemy and worked on my own to build mostly 2 words domains. But i lacked all informations you provided. THANKS A LOOT!! I'll get back to you as soon as i sell a domain. I still have a question, can a brand new domain can sell for a high value? ( i for example have datingcastel, ending with.com, acquired on Godaddy for few bucks but Godaddy says it worth more than 1000usd right after i bought it) Or are expired ones much more interesting to sell?

2- List your domains on all marketplaces (Sedo, Afternic, Undeveloped, Uniregistry)[/QUOTE
Can i list the same domain on different marketplaces (for example i registered on Godaddy. Can i list on Uniregistry, Sedo, Flippa, Afternic, Undevelopped?

Yes, you can. Highly recommended! List EVERYWHERE!

Important: list with "Make Offer", not with BIN (buy it now price). BIN obligates you to sell at that price. This could lead to multiple sales at BIN in different marketplaces, but you have only one domain! But you can list at BIN at one of the marketplaces.
You're welcome!

You might want to check this out with respect to the final step - negotiating with buyers and closing sales:

https://www.namepros.com/blog/how-t...ertson-part-4-negotiating-and-closing.1129904
This is part 4 of a series of posts, you might want to check the otters, too! :xf.grin:

Once again, take it with a grain of salt. It's about high ticket sales of names worth hundreds of thousands or more. Most of that advice is very sound, but some points may not work that well when applied to lower end, $xxx - $x,xxx sales.

Good luck, both with your acquisitions and sales! :xf.smile:

Decent domains. Good landing pages. Quality targeted outbound marketing. Social media marketing. SEO on your main domain/business site. Video marketing. As many channels as possible to increase the eyes on your assets.

These 4 few pointers will help new domainers not waste money

1) Check and make sure you have a whole list of potential buyers before buying a name
2) Don't hand register any names, email owners of above-average names and find a bargain.
3) Don't buy names and then park them or put up a landing page. Email each potential buyer individually and ask if they are interested. 4) Biggest mistake domainers make is thinking the buyers will come to them afgter buying an average domain. This wont happen unless you have really good names.
5) Rather spend $200 or $500 on 1 or 2 names that will at least sell, rather than 50 or 100 crappy names.
6) DO NOT fall for the new domainer regging frenzy, buy 1-5 names and try and sell them, if you cant sell them, dont buy more, research and learn where you went wrong.

Good luck
"2) Don't hand register any names," - what do you mean by that?

The only cases where you can do hand reg are:
1- if the domain was dropped recently, and was registered or in-use in the past. You can use expireddomains.net to check recent drop lists.
2- if the domain is brandable name (combo or madeup name), and can be listed on brandable domains marketplaces (Brandbucket, SquadHelp, Brandpa.. and others) but this is very tricky, so stay away from it if you are a beginner.
3- Domain speculation: If the domain is related to a new emerging technology or trending niche, this is also very tricky for a beginner and requires advanced skill.

80% of People here are doing this so NamePros is mostly an Handreg Tribe :)

Dont go and register crappy names because they are available, they are usually available for a reason 😊

Focus on emailing existing owners of good names and/or watch expiring lists and auctions.

Hi, @gilescoley THANKS AGAIN!! how do i build a list of buyers?

Just google the domain and find businesses that could benefit from the name. I also find LinkedIn a good way to find buyers.

The important thing is to not buy a name and then start looking for potential buyers. Find a name you like or want, try and focus on a niche that you are familiar with or if not, research the niche until you are familiar with it. Check past sales of names in that niche. Once you have found a name, look for potential buyers, see how many companies would be interested. If you cant find any, leave the name alone and find something else. Don't buy names that have no potential buyers. Don't buy names that YOU like and that YOU think have potential, just because you think its good, doesn't mean it is. Good luck

What are top strategies for selling domains?
🚩

My personal top strategy is creating top domain names that are so high / valuable / expensive that only super rich people will be able to buy themmm

Okay @gilescoley thanks! so for exemple i google cryptovente.com (which is one of my domains). How do i identify businesses that could benefit from it? I mean i have the domain as the first result. And then other crypto related links. How do i know such companies would be interested, especially if they already have websites? Also how do i identify companies willing to launch several website and as a consequence, constantly need domains for that?

Buying (Only Buy Good or Great Domains)
  • Buy Good or Great Domains - Like others have stated the foremost strategy is buy good/great domains. Don't worry about going out of your way to promote the domains too much, because if you do this step correctly, you won't have to.
Thinking back to when I started, I would start with domains in industries that you have some familiarity with. For example, I was big into programming, app sites, cars, tech so I would buy names that would answer one question:

Would I, and could I, run a successful business off of this domain in this industry? (Honestly ask this and spend a moment to envision it). More importantly, ask if you would really buy from a business with this domain. Here's another good one; envision telling your friends about your business named xxxxxxxxx.com and imagine their reaction realistically. Also do searches to see if other business are out there with the same name or similar names.
Once you get good at this for an industry you know, then it makes it easier to replicate the quality of domains you buy in other industries.

Selling (Afternic, Lander, Lease, Whois)
  • My advice: you get sales from 4 main sources. Afternic, your landing page, leases, and whois info. So do these 4 things in the following order:
  • List your domains on Afternic (PREMIUM NETWORK OPTION) - they show up on every major registrar if someone types in your domain. If you are not doing this, you are missing out on ridiculous amounts of income. 50-65% of my income has come from this channel from day 1 until today with 0% originating from my traffic.
  • Set up a Lander - If I were doing it from scratch today, I would do this via an Epik.com lander. Why? Because they are the only registrar that offers domain leasing. And their leasing options are extensive. There are other services that offer leasing, but none are registrars. So if I die tomorrow, all of my 30 leases will complete without my intervention. Customers know this before they buy, otherwise why would they risk it?
    • Offer 2 things on your Lander:
      • Buy Now for $x,xxx
      • Lease for $xx, or $xxx per month
      • ** Do NOT have "Make offer" anywhere on your page unless you enjoy giving away money. Let these people email you or use your contact form.
  • Lease from Day 1 - Over the course of 3-4 years, I've built up around 30 leases. From that, I receive around $1,500 in consistent monthly income. Leasing right from your landing page eliminates people who negotiate based on their current financial situation and instead they focus on the value of the domain name, which is the correct way to negotiate anything.
  • Update Your Whois - At minimum, say in your whois that the domain is for sale, and don't set your whois to private.

Buy Good or Great Domains
This is the key point. What makes a domain a good (or great), one? Also, in my searches, i've come to https://www.domainhole.com which has expired domains. Among them, some are available for 0usd (will be deleted today for example). Do you think such domain can be sold for profit? Also how to determine the right price of a domain? This remains a problem. Godaddy valuation is different from estibot and freevaluator, so i don't know at all how to set a good price :(

Q: What are top strategies for selling domains?

A:

1. Learn which kind of domains that actually sell (browsing actual data and statistics, not using guesses and “feeling”).

2. Start searching coming drops, auctions etc.

3. Buy names.

4. List them with landing pages and at marketplaces.

5. Sell names.

Thanks! What else than namebio should i use? I noticed that namebio mostly focus on high sales. What to do to get access to "ordinary sales?"

Namebio lists sales from $100.

- For sales history with lower amounts, I would suggest to browse auctions on this forum, GoDaddy, Flippa etc.

- For sales history with high amounts, I would suggest www.dnjournal.com.
