Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
The fact that installment plans exist (they're relatively new) will likely help make more sales happen in all ranges and SH has definitely been aiming higher with prices in recent months. I think the average sale price now is probably in the $1400-$1700 range. Sort of an educated guesstimate based on what I've been seeing sell.
I wonder if you can give us some stats, being one of the few who was using SH before. Basic plus works in making a sale, or its just the same as a basic landing page? Also, what are some good signs regarding sales, views/shortlist/likes? You were submitting names to the contests or just passive sales using premium submissions? Thanks.

@boker I haven't been using basic or basic plus so I'm not the right person to answer about how they're working out. I think one sale came from a submission I made in a contest, but I'm not 100% sure. I pitch a few marketplace domains in contests every day, but it's on a very small scale.

Personally I use marketplaces because I want the sale to be passive so I could spend time doing other things. But I know some users pitch a lot and sometimes they're landing sales. I think I would spend more time pitching in contests if I knew for sure a contest holder is open to buying a domain. The problem is that at the moment I can't know that- so I could waste a lot of time pitching to people who aren't even in the market for buying or to people who may be open to it but without knowing their budget. It's kind of like shooting in the dark. If you do it long enough you'll hit something, but is the time you spent doing it worth it? For some people it may be. I do it on a small scale so I don't feel like it's a waste of time. Overall, I think it's an individual decision based on trial and error. SH says that sometimes contest holders fall in love with a name so they'll buy it even if they didn't originally intend to buy anything. I'm sure that happens, but I don't like shooting in the dark. I hope down the line SH will improve the system so sellers could know who's worth pitching to and who's 100% not interested in buying a domain.

After reading about SH here I thought I would give it a try.

I submitted 10 names.

Two were accepted.

Now I have 2 names listed in my dashboard waiting for approval or rejection.

Their terms are confusing.

They mention in several places the price limit is $1799.

But I see names listed for more.

Someone on this thread mentioned how their account was suspended

simply because they clicked reject on their names.

So I submitted my names all with $1799 prices even though

I believe some are worth much more.

But, they actually lowered the prices on my accepted names

by several hundred dollars each
and they want a 35% commission too.

What happens if I click reject?

Can I have the prices and commission adjusted or will they

just close my account?

How does this work??

Any feedback is appreciated.

Been getting a lot of slow server responses, 550 errors and 502 server timeouts lately. Is the server under attack or overloaded ?

The price limit is on Basic listings ( no approval needed)

If they quoted less than the basic listing price at a high commission I’d go with the basic listing

Sounds like you submitted to premium. In the drop down you can submit to basic basic plus or premium (which requires approval).

What happens if I click reject on a name?

Do they give any options after you click reject

or is your name just removed?

@JudgeMind any help would be appreciated :xf.smile:

Does anyone understand what the last to paragraphs mean listed here-

https://helpdesk.squadhelp.com/domain-marketplace/domain-marketplace-terms-conditions-for-sellers

Submitting marketplace domains into contests -

Squadhelp explicitly asks Contest Holders if they are interested in Premium Domains.

a) In contests where a CH indicates that they are interested in reviewing premium domains, Creatives will be able to submit their Marketplace domains at the full listed price.

b) If a Contest Holder indicates that they are not interested in accepting premium domains, Creatives can still submit their Marketplace domains into the contest, but this will be facilitated through My Owned Domains, and the Creative will receive only the contest award amount if their name is chosen as the contest winner. Squadhelp will offer the premium domain at a substantial discount to the contest holder.

Examples - If you submit a domain that is listed on the Marketplace for $999 to a contest with an award amount of $200, here is how your award amount will be handled:

(a) if open to premium domain, the domain will be offered at a discounted price to the Contest Holder and you will either receive the contest award amount or your full commission based upon final selling price (whichever is greater)

(b) if not open to premium domains, the domain will be offered at a substantially higher discount to the CH and you will receive the $200 award amount.

Does this mean if you submit a name you own, from your marketplace listings to a contest, they could

discount the name however they want, give your name to the contest winner, and only give you $200.

This is very confusing.

This is very confusing.

I think the premium names are exempt from the contests unless the person said they want to see premium priced domains. The basic plus allows you to enter your names into contests and yes if chosen you must turn over the name for $200 or whatever the amount is. Not much of an incentive to enter contests if you ask me.

I was the one blocked and then unblocked. Would like to hear further if that glitch was corrected. The reject button should just remove the name from premium list if it’s working properly now.

So it does not remove the name entirely from SH?

Does it just downgrade to a basic listing?

Can you adjust prices and commissions?

Thanks

@Cdomains The discount they're referring to is a discount from the marketplace domain's price that's given to the contest holder considering what they already paid when they launched the contest. So if a domain costs $1499 and the contest prize is $300- the CH now adds $1199 for the domain (because they already paid $300 for the prize when the contest was launched). The creative gets the bigger of the two sums- prize or commission from the sale. That's usually relevant when the domain is registered by SH so the creative's commission is around 20%-40% of the price so sometimes the contest prize is higher than the commission.

All contests are defined as 'Accepting Premium Submissions' as a default these days. It used to be different so I think the article you quoted is a little out of date and needs to be updated. Recently SH added the option for Contest Holders to request to stop receiving them during a contest (they have something in their dashboard they can flick to stop receiving them). Since all contests accept premium submissions as a default there are cases when you submit domains and then the CH writes to you in a comment: "We're not interested in a premium domain". That's why I think the system needs to improve so time won't be wasted on marketplace pitches to CHs who are 100% not open to them to begin with.

@SuperBrander

I have 2 domains in my account that I have to either accept or reject.

They lowered the prices I submitted and the commission is %35.

What happens if I click reject?

Will that name be removed from my list / account forever?

Am I allowed to counter with a different price and / or commission?

Thanks

@Cdomains You can't negotiate/counter. You can tweak the price after accepting it by a few hundred bucks. Regarding the rejection- personally I haven't been in this situation. I think that if you reject it, you can add it again as Basic / Basic Plus. Maybe if you change your mind, you can also contact them and ask them to reinstate it as a premium but you can't do it on your own from your dashboard. If I were you- I would just use the blue button to chat with them and ask them. They have great customer support.

Are discounts really a good idea, or do they show desperation ? I see some domains listed for a price like this:
$̶1̶3̶9̶9̶ $1299
Doesn't that give the impression you are trying to unload it and it's not worth the original price ?

Has anyone here made a sale quickly AFTER doing a discount ?

Hi, I'm totally new here, but I just wanted to mention I have found the Squadhelp marketplace to be quite good. I have personally sold 12 domains there, 11 purchased outright and 1 on installments. I currently have 91 domains listed, and I'm excited about the increased traffic lately. Certainly it's not for everyone, but Squadhelp is really investing in advertising, so I feel my names have a good chance of discovery with their system.

Wow, that seems an amazing sell through rate. So when you say 12 of 91 sold, was that all in the past year? (or if not could you please tell us what time frame it was over). Thanks.

It was more like 18 months, I think. My first listings were in Sept 2017. But it would have been 12 of 103, I wasn't including the 12 in the number I had currently listed.

I think the discounts are ok, because the platform shows it is only a temporary price reduction (sales ends in 5 days, etc.) So it's not like your name is being permanently devalued.I haven't seen a huge benefit to the discounts so far, but they've only recently added the feature of emailing people who shortlisted names to notify them when the name is on sale. I think that has the potential to help quite a bit.

Yeah, but they are free. Looks like $5 logo work off Fiverr designers, but its better than nothing. Seen similiar quality on other branding sites, so meh.....

I think badly designed logo can reduce the chance of sale , One of my domain YouHadMe//king has been listed for 2.2k but if you see logo, it is really immature. Bad combination of background and fonts should atleast be avoided.

That might be true. Perhaps they will come up with an option to hire an outside designer and then submit your design to replace theirs, unless that already exists.

Does anyone know if there is an update schedule for "views" shown on SH ? Right now my "premium" views seem to be updating as normal, but all "basic plus" have been frozen since last night. Is it like Undeveloped where it is done once ( or a limited number of times) a day ?

So far, Squadhelp has stated they are not open to outside designs, due to trademark issues and consistency concerns. If you really hate the logo they design, you can request a revision, but it costs $10 per name. I agree some of them are less than ideal, but the lifestyle images (the real photos with the names super-imposed) that are displayed in the example section are really good, and those seem to generate more sales anyway. Squadhelp doesn't do a lifestyle image for every name, though, it's just random.

Got another one approved at $,2799, but very slow progress, they are veeeery picky.

so why are discounts reset every Monday? should remain in place till dn owner disables it.

imo
