The problem is people see a few sales from people who got really good word+tld combos and then they go off and buy tons of ngTLD domains because they think it must be a hot new trend.

The belief in the newgtlds will continue for quite a few years to come. Virtually ever new domainer doesn't feel they really have any choice. They are looking for 'Cut-and-dried' Instant purchases. Yes old-time domainers will say "play the close-out auction game to enter the market but most people don't realize being a 'Auction Aficionado' takes a whole different skill-set, organisation, patience, self-control etc These are not the qualities of the new gtld purchasers (and dare I say me neither)

I don't ever bother looking, which acts as my control-button.

Some will say, yes but we sell new newtlds behind the scenes, well so do gtlds and probably at a far higher percentage. That .point zero one of one percent 00,01% of declared sales for March, even after all these years probably still wont phase the newgtld advocates.

PS Love the way those stats from Namebio are broken-down. I never really examined those elements before

All what newGTLDs has done is dilute the domain market and create more confusions.

Anyone investing it them is gearing to go broke

I think most nGTLD's really need to be outbound and you have to be a good salesperson with the right pitch to pull it off. I'm not talking about the "liquid" nGTLD's which have real value, but rather the idea of just adding a good word to a new tld doesn't work.

Solid word+TLD domains are hot, but if you just start thinking "This word plus this TLD works", you will be sitting on a portfolio of renewals, not possible sales.

For instance, I recently registered KillBugs.Pro and HouseMold.Pro, both will be outbound to clients with a good exposure in that market. But most will be serious GEO type clients with active websites and internet SEO , but who don't know about nGTLD's and so the price will be $xxx to close the deal without much thinking on their part.

You can get ".pro" for $1.88 at NameCheap now so you can play with outbound, but I would not make that nGTLD a focus of my portfolio. It's a nice experiment, but you have to know how to work it.

The daily pattern is more like zero, so this is a good day.
