I did not say I was not part of the problem like everybody else. I simply said I am not trying to pretend the problem does not exist.

at least you don't deny the problem

Whats the solution? I ran my complete business on DOS and a 286. Other than internet use, the need to new speed is driven by stupid video games ( internet use was rare or non existent then to me, other than BBS and Compuserve), so much for “Progress”. Good documentary.

Did you throw out all your plastic bags, plastic forks, spoons and straws and bottled water? Your old computers where did they wind up in the E Waste pile? Thanks to Apple and all tech device companies, they contribute huge to this problem. I cant bank with one computer solely because POS Apple wont allow me to upgrade the OS, so old browsers are non compliant. I was forced to buy a new computer to file electronic reporting adobe forms to Govt too. More unnecessatry E waste. Forced obsolescence is the Apple and MS business model to pollute the world, think about that one. I have like (10) obsoleted cell phones too. So much for recycling those. Bad Lithium batteries made in a counterfeiting factory too, had to replace one the other day.

I am all for eliminating them, I drink agua de tubo and buy Coke in Glass recycled bottles thats my contribution.
I have recycled all my Plastics, Paper, Electronics, PCs, TVs, Chemicals and so on now for over 20yrs.
So I at least try.

This is a complex problem. Think of the waste you could reduce by not using amazon ( packing materials) and shopping locally by walking ( I do btw) and or riding a bike. If stores offered reusable glass containers and were used for laundry soap, hand soap, shampoo, dog food, distributed locally at a corner store, etc. that would help. This is idealistic and will not happen though.

maybe you can keep your iPhone
when you eat less meat...

"what causes global warming:"

My iPhone was stolen over there in the EU, seriously. Apple find-my-iphone last saw it somewhere in Africa. My old iPhone 3, 3s and rotting GSM based Nokia phones sit in a drawer, the androids all sit waiting to be dumped someday. Cow farts arent the problem, Asia is seemingly the biggest plastics polluter btw in my reading. I rarely eat beef anymore btw

McDonalds could make everyone eat in, no to-go on ceramic or plastic reusable plates. They and all franchise fast food places contribute worldwide that are take-away.

There is a lot that can be done. The government creating more bureaucracies and more ways to scam money is not one of them.

It doesn't really absolve anyone in the west to say that the plastic is all from Asia (specifically developing countries in Asia). Developed nations probably use more plastic, and much of that waste is sent to developing countries. China just started refusing a lot of this waste, so now countries such as Japan have to figure out what to do with it.

We also have to remember that awareness of this issue is very new. Until very recently, little thought was given to plastics, much less to the microbeads that now permeate every one of us. In China just 12 years ago, throwing garbage out the car window was standard behavior. Mindsets have to change first.

Then comes infrastructure. Developed countries have somewhat effective disposal systems that help mitigate the problem - though these just slow down the pollution rather than stopping it. People in developing countries, especially outside the major cities often have no garbage disposal services. Organics become compost, inorganics are just dumped wherever.

This waste, in many cases, is a hidden cost of production - effectively a subsidy to the companies that profit from creating it. Coca-Cola sells beverages in every corner of the world, and is responsible for the majority of PET bottle pollution. These costs need to be factored in from the beginning. Every company that creates a non-biodegradable product needs to have a plan that extends to the eventual disposal of that product.

We have been making progress in some of the poorest and most crowded places in the world, so it's certainly doable. Between technology, cooperation and creativity, the issues can be tackled. It is an existential problem, and everybody can do more. Nobody can claim the moral high ground.

I just saw a plastic bag blowing around my garden. I'll have to go pick that up.

Don is he a Lemon or a journalist? Is he capable of becoming sweet or will he be always bitter. Can he make lemonade?

I'd be bitter too if I was such a shameless shill for the state.
