I didn't copy quite enough data to make my point well. The $5,406 Proxy bid should have shown up right after the 420 $5,356.00 bid. and as you see in the timestamps they are both recorded at the same time, but recorded in the list out of order. Again, this makes ZERO difference in the end. Just shows why this became a discussion to begin with, outside of the sale price of the site. DC states that the backend of the system was sound and performed exactly as expected, which is why the auction continued. They say these irregularities showed up on my end due to lag and other influences in the front end of the system. It would be interesting to see if any of you who participated have the same results in your bid history or different ones, as that sort of supports the evidence one way or the other.

FastCars P $5,706.00 Mar 2 13:03:51
420domains $5,656.00 Mar 2 13:03:5
FastCars P $5,406.00 Mar 2 13:01:20 High Bid
FastCars P $5,606.00 Mar 2 13:01:49
420domains $5,556.00 Mar 2 13:01:49
420domains $5,356.00 Mar 2 13:01:20
FastCars $5,306.00 Mar 2 12:56:56

But again, 420 was willing to pay more than me and won the auction. I have no dispute with that.
I don’t know who 420 is, but they go out of their way to make sure you don’t know either. I would have pushed dropcatch on the fact payment did not arrive on time according to TOS in the bidding contact, most likely they have a clause for that.

Domain auctions are not like real auctions, when it comes to rules, it is like the Wild West, and if you ever take the time to study the bidding history of drop auctions, you will probably never participate in another one in your life.

Agree, fastcars you still could wind up with it as in my searching only a handfull of companies are candidates it seems right now. Canna oil or Gold bar purity stamp seems a stretch versus uptime branding.

At least at DC there is a bidder ID. Unlike bidder 1, bidder 2, etc. lol.

I didnt see any comment about an API being used, did that get clarified?

@wwwweb 555 1212 is US local information for all area codes, with my domains in the 90’s I even used it as a place holder number to avoid telemarketers.

I don’t think API was used, but a strong proxy bid, Fastcars simply stopped bidding, 420 actually still had a higher proxy in place.

Thanks, for the update on the number, but the address is just PO BOX no number, I mean someone is really ghosting, just wondering why, could easily spend a few bucks on privacy at godaddy, not like they can’t afford it.

but the address is just PO BOX no number,

I see namebright privacy being used at ICANN whois. Where did you see a PO Box.?

studentaid.com

The whois for iomega.com, is using Namebright's PO BOX address for whois at Godaddy, not a transfer error, but a manual input, as the email would also be namebright's privacy email which it is not.

The way IOMEGA.com reads is that

My discussions with DC have ended, clearly you all see how this played out in the end. We did our best to state our case for getting the domain, as many of you have noticed, we have a valid use for it, and probably some ICANN protections from someone else buying it just to resell it. DC did acknowledge, but could not explain, the irregularities we saw from our end during the action, an example is the following (shown as copied data rather than a screenshot as I can't post links here, those of you who also participated in this auction can go look for yourself):

FastCars P $5,706.00 Mar 2 13:03:51
420domains $5,656.00 Mar 2 13:03:5
FastCars High Bid P $5,406.00 Mar 2 13:01:20
FastCars P $5,606.00 Mar 2 13:01:49
420domains $5,556.00 Mar 2 13:01:49

You will see not only does the unexplainable "High Bid" show up, but also the bids are recorded out of order. My Proxy Bid at the amount of $5,406.00 should have shown immediately earlier in the timeline of bids, but instead it shows up 4 rows higher than it should have been recorded. We did our own analysis of the irregularities that is more thorough than this example, but I doubt we will post that stuff on the Internet.

DC says they have verified everything on their end over and over and the back end functioned as it should. I don't have proof of this, but at the same time, I don't really have rights to that nor do I want to fight it.

While true, that I kept bidding on the site even after I felt I should have won, I did so primarily to buy DC time to respond to my phone calls and emailed complaints, as leaving the auction early would have resulted in the loss of the site right away. I quit because of the ballooned price, and the weirdness of the entire thing, just didn't feel like a fair auction.

However, in the end, 420 did pay for the site, that means that 420 wanted it more than I, and that is how auctions work. It was a massively frustrating experience for me, but that's just how things go. DC did respond a lot to me after the fact, and I believe those guys feel this was all proper on their end. Simple truth is that even if they opted to redo the auction, if 420 was really willing to pay 40k+ for it, he was going to win in the end no matter what. So I have nothing really to complain about here. Had I walked away after seeing the message that I had won, and lost as a direct result of that message, things would be different, but that's not in the end the reason I lost. 420 was legit and wanted that domain.

I hope 420 has a legitimate use for it.

Looks like the domain is for sale.

For the vast majority of the auction, 420 was not using the DC Proxy system, but some outside thing that caused bids every 5 minutes while my proxy was in place and clearly visible.

Fastcars would be smart not to take the bait, and not pursue it.

I sort of feel the same way, but why do you say that?

Because 420domains is a domain investor he buys domains like JerryJackson.com iomega.com fieldcreek.com studentaid.com. Every investor has a high/low limit, there is no need to pay $40K in an auction format for such a domain. Something seems off here, everyone can see from the price, I can't figure it out, but it doesn't add up.

There are only a few people who would pay around $10K for this domain, to flip it for $50K for a small return makes very little sense. Their first action was listing it on Afternic.com, a godaddy owned sales channel, this makes no sense as if your paying $40K for a domain like this which has no liquid value, you better have a use for it.

There is only a few targeted end users in this space, it doesn't make a lot of sense in the cannabis space in gaining traction, it has an established use in uptime reliability, which is obvious.

Who is Jerry Jackson btw? Lol. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2256361/

Iomega zip drives were unique, but unreliable back in the day I had a few. A dead and gone format. Remember seeing their booth at Comdex first year they came out.

(2) decent LLL’s for ~$40k.

From a investor point of view paying $4xx for JerryJackson.com makes sense, he could flip it for 5-10X maybe, I am sure it is a common name. Sure their is always TM issues if someone is famous enough.

Back to FiveNines.com at $36K, where do you go from this? If you had a use, why list it on Afternic? Afternic needs their 20% commission, you are at $42K on break even now?

iomega.com was purchased at $10K, your paying for it's history, not sure where you go from it now, hoping a new company brands under that name?

Maybe 1 LLL.com for $40K FVN.com ?

Or low end. Lol.

https://www.namepros.com/threads/th...iscussion-thread.429599/page-154#post-7139966

I didnt know Jerry was that cheap.

Bidding fever got ahold for $36k. We will see. Maybe he has a buyer.

I don’t recall iomega having left the market on a positive note, did they? so why rebrand. As I recall vaguely, those drives had the β€œsound of death”, they went and made a crunch noise and were toast. Had a multitrack audio recorder that used them that crashed and a few using them for back up.

Just checked, as usual something on the net. β€œClick of death”

He paid over market value, but someone wanted to pay more than the end user for only reasons they know, so I think he is content.

Many here can’t figure out how the buyer can profit after paying $36K, when the end user couldn’t even pay that.

fastcars would have had to verify to bid, that’s the only tell he would have given to who he is, the rest is a mystery.

I agree. For 420domains to pay that much for a domain he or she has no use for makes no sense. Either they found out who fastcars was or they have a serious gambling problem.

It's a code for Trump. 5x9 = 45, so it is worth a good percentage of Trump.com. This is where 420 sees the value (while smoking).

New drama for this domain, as 420domains, hates giving real whois info

FiveNines.com
Please update your contact information

This domain will come back online once verified, usually within 24 to 48 hours.

Any new domain registration, domain transfer, or even updated Whois contact information in a domain name requires validation of the contact information. If the registrant (domain owner) doesn’t do this within 15 days then the registrar must suspend the domain name per ICANN rules.

If you are the domain owner, simply validate your contact information to reactivate this domain.
