ALPNAMES.COM - WARNING! WILL DELETE YOUR DOMAINS & HIKE PRICES WITHOUT NOTICE.

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
As someone who has experience with almost every major registrar out there, I am very unhappy with my AlpNames.com experience. Here's why:

1. They raised their .COM renewal fees from $8.75 to $15.00 with NO warning, NO email, NO reminder or alert. A few days prior I renewed a few domains at $8.75, a couple days later I add expired domains to my cart to renew, they're all set at $15.00 each. Dozens of them.

2. They will DELETE DOMAINS from your account OR CHARGE YOU a $60 Recovery fee, a DAY BEFORE the deadline date they specified in their emails when the domain expired! For example: "You must renew domain before the 3rd or it may be unable to recover!" , Ok fine, then on the 2nd, not the 3rd, they're all deleted or a 60 recovery fee is slapped on them. And I checked time-zones, that had nothing to do with it, they were clear in all time-zones!

3. Slow responses for support. I've contacted their support regarding the price hike, then about the domains being deleted before their due time, going on 4 days still waiting for response on time-sensitive/urgent issue.

4. Lastly, Visa doesn't seem to like this company as they're always blocking payment to them. I had to call my bank several times.

I was introduced to AlpNames because of the transfer promo a couple years ago, without issues which is why I didn't transfer out, $8.75 was reasonable so I paid back the savings to them AND THEM some, renewed my domains (HUNDREDS) for 2+ years with them AFTER promo and was going to again, NOT NOW.

If you have names with AlpNames, again, they hiked .com renewals up from $8.75 to $15.00, so if you have dozens or hundreds of domains to renew and you're not looking for an unpleasant surprise during renewal time, here's your fair warning which they won't give. And they lock your domains so you can't transfer out after expiry date and they may just delete your domains or put them in grace period early. Enjoy.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
AlpNames had its own accreditation + PDR Reseller status as well...
When some TLDs were cheaper via PDR channel - AlpNames regged them using PDR.

I believe PDR (public domain registry) used to be the controlling entity of Alpnames, till about a year and a half ago Alpnames broke away and get their own IANA ID.

You would have seen on a whois check on one of your names from Alpnames, under the registrar info, "public domains registry" rather than "alpnames" and with a different IANA id, back then.

That is the answer! I had only one that is in the last half of a 2 year registration, and sure enough when i checked now it does show them as a registrar.

Sponsoring Registrar: PDR Ltd. d/b/a PublicDomainRegistry.com
Sponsoring Registrar IANA ID: 303

Thanks!

Bob

The same for Namecheap...
When some TLDs were cheaper for eNom resellers - they processed them via eNom...

Dear Sirs (mr. Jurgen Wolf and Bob Hawkes) reading your conversations we have read clear the situation: in fact we received today 1:25 PM an email from PDR Compliance as follows...
---------
we are making arrangements to facilitate continued services ONLY for domains and associated services registered through P.D.R Solutions (U.S) LLC. We will be provisioning new customer accounts for you and arrange for these services to be moved under the accounts as soon as can be done.

Only for domains that are registered with Public Domain Registry as the Registrar:
Once your domain name is moved under the new account, you will be able to renew and manage your domain names and attached services through this link... (cp resellerclub of course)
---------
Also we received an email from ICANN Global support 10:11 AM accordingly (because we contacted them early) reading that the new Registrar will contact us as soon as the transfers will be accomplished.

Speedy, I mean.

Many thanks for your open converstion.
(Mario)

mhmmmmm.... yeah.. I was wondering why someone earlier on this thread asked me where my names are regged.. Jurgen was it? anyway... im not familiar with procedures when registrars shut down.. as this never happened to me before since I domain 4 years now.. .I guess it hasn't really happened to most domainers..

so let me get this straight... if I go to whois and my name is listed as registered under ALP NAMES..... vs PDR... this means it will not be handled by ICANN and moved elsewhere.. andI basically need to transfer on my own? which could explain why my names are unlocked.. and many other people are locked..

is this true?

I guess I'll need to whois all my names one by one to find out which ones are ALPNAMES vs PDR. whast decided that originally anyway? did it depend on where I transfered from? as all names I owned there were transfers.. vs say new regs etc..

They will be moved in both cases... PDR or AlpNames accreditation - doesn't matter...
But with true AlpNames domains - the gaining registrar is still unknown...

ok I see
I guess its still possible that some people now cannot tranasfer names cause they are PDR.. and then if ALPNAMES in whois then possible to transfer? I guess this can explain things.

also do you know why some names are as alpnames in whois.. and some as pdr? or is kind of random?

Renewal will NOT be fixed.
Payment gateways are disabled for AlpNames.
AlpNames accreditation (what I see in your WHOIS) is terminated and their Support is dead.

BTW, don't panic and don't repost the same questions again and again...

Just wait until PDR domains will be moved under their direct management... should be completed this week.

Regarding TRUE AlpNames domains - this movement to another registrar (selected by ICANN) may be longer...
Once the gaining registrar is identified and confirmed, it will be listed on the Bulk Transfers page.

I think that there is no response since they have shut down (despite the automated messages we receive). My understanding is that the transfer, assuming you successfully unlocked the domain and retrieved the auth code, should work, but you will have to wait the full 5+ days. Has it been longer than that?

Bob

This is email from Alpnames, but there is no change. The transfer not successful.

My domain expired for more than 4 days. And I face terrible problem, links of all my site was delete by Google.

Dear Customer,

AlpNames Limited received notification on Wednesday, Mar 13, 2019 that you have requested a transfer to NameCheap, Inc. for domain.com. If you want to proceed with this transfer, you do not need to respond to this message. If you wish to cancel the transfer, please click on the below link before Monday, Mar 18, 2019:

As was replied by Bob above - your transfer is pending... it will complete on ~Mar'19.
Just wait and don't click "Cancel" link in the automated message you received.

Do not panic: email received from PDR read two things as follows...

---------

(A) Only for domains that are registered with Public Domain Registry as the Registrar:

Once your domain name is moved under the new account, you will be able to renew and manage your domain names and attached services through... (cp resellerclub customer)

For help documents related to renewing and managing your orders, you can refer... (cp resellerclub kb)

You will be provided support for these domain names and services by creating a ticket through... (support resellerclub helpdesk)

(B) For domains that are registered with Alpnames as the Registrar:

You can choose to transfer the domain name to a Registrar of your choice

Alternatively if your domain and other associated services are active, you can wait for ICANN action to appoint a registrar

We will be sending another email once the move is complete so you can log in to manage your orders.
---------

That's all, bynow.

As of today 21st of March I cannot unlock (disable theft protection) on any of my domains from the defunct alpnames by accessing the account through apal516804.myorderbox.com.

It does not work in bulk mode or individually disabling theft protection. This is very disconcerting. Are there any solutions to this? Do I have to really wait for ICANN to pick a new registrar? I want to protect my domains by transferring but it seems the system is preventing it. I hope I don't lose any of the domains because the damages sought will be substantial.

If anyone has a solution I'd love some assistance. Thank you very much.

found it weird of course.. but looks like alpnames still sending out
Consolidated Renewal Reminders

got one this morning.

even more odd is that in that email, a correct link is posted to RENEW the names. in the admin format posted here earlier.

and when I click it I see my names.. etc..

isn't it odd they'd update their renewal emails to include the correct alt login link? hmm

I previously had success with the orderbox workaround, and names that I previously unlocked are still unlocked. However, every time I try to unlock one now it fails.

I am still able to get Auth Code and I think otherwise manage (like DNS) through the interface, but they seemed to have made unlocking not possible.

Does anyone have an idea of how long until we likely hear the details re the ICANN Bulk Transfer/

Bob
